Infamous: Second Son high-res screenshots officially released

Here are the first official high-resolution screenshots of Infamous: Second Son.
The game from Sucker Punch Studios gives you a glimpse of the possibilities of the PlayStation 4.

@Scenarist Light & Shadows have definitely improved but so have textures. I think with so much more RAM from both consoles we can expect high res textured environments and characters :)

Shader complexity, post processing effects, AI, particle systems, atialiasing, buffer resolution, texture resolution etc. There's a lot of things better than previous gen. Most of them are not apparent but are still there.

Infamous is probably my favorite new franchise to come out of current gen and I can't wait to see it come to the next gen. I really hope this is a launch title cause then we will likely be playing it later this year and I really don't want to wait forever.

As it is I personally will probably only watch whatever footage they might release at e3 and then not watch anything so I don't spoil it for myself. I did something similar with the 2nd game and it made it so much better for me.

I'm pretty sure that these are in-game screenshots and they look amazing, absolutely incredible. Also, I'm loving that Sucker Punch added that badge with the Sly Cooper series' logo on it to Delsin's jacket (third screenshot), staying true to tradition with the InFamous series. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that I can't wait to see this game in action, let alone play the game.

I live in Arizona, Home of the Navajo (Hopi Tribe) and NO he does NOT look like a Native American.

I see Native Americans of ALL types everyday and this character looks like a typical white guy from California who surfs too much and watches Jersey Shore.

Maybe he is 1/16th Native American

I live in Oklahoma which is basically where Native Americans of all types were "shipped" to make way for "American progress" (primarily east coast though).

The character might not be the most stereotypical example but he is clearly of NA lineage and not too far down the line. Mixed is possible though but depends on what tribe/region as NA tribes ran from very Asianic (northwest), to stereotypical "red" and more.

I know this might be saying more about the developer than the console's capbilities, but a lot of times when i see PS4 screens, i've noticed that the actual poly count and the texture work isn't really a huge deal over the best PS3 games. There is definitely something that PS3 could never handle when it comes to particles and atmosphere in these screenshots, but the actual polygons and that just doesn't really impress me.

not yet. If you look at PS3 games at launch you will see a huge difference. Also I think once you see the games in action, they may look quite different.

The characters in Killzone 2/3 were 15000-20000 with up to 6 people on screen. Uncharted 2 and 3 characters were 25000 Polygons during gameplay and 30000 during cinematics in engine. Kratos in God of War 3 and Ascension was 35000-40000 while ai characters were a paltry 15000 with maybe 5 characters lus kratos on screen at any time.

Heavy Rain's characters were 20000 polygons and beyond and the last of us are 35-40,000 polygons for characters.
... Keep in mind the most you'll have for any of those games on screen is 8-10 ai.

Killzone: Shadow Fall does 60 Characters on screen at once with 40,000 polygons all being raytraced at 4X FXAA 1080P @30 Solid locked FPS...

There is already propensity, as stated by Steven Ter Heide the Studio head and lead designer at GG, that at Launch the Game will have 60 characters with 80,000 polygons 4x TSAA Anti-Ailiasing, with raytraced and volumetric real time lighting with a target(but not promised) frame rate of 60fps at 1080p

so the jump is there, and its clear, go watch the KZ:Shadow fall Demo on the PS3 and then play The opening of KZ3,, you'll see the difference its alarming.

These screens of infamous already look miles ahead of Infamous 2. The PS4 is a beast and this early on its showing crazy potential.

If these are indeed native 1080p Second Son screenshots, then the AA quality is really, really nice. It doesn't have that characteristic full-screen blur of the old FXAA method, so maybe this is SMAA? I'd love to see all PS4 games use some form of SMAA (even SMAAx2 looks great) as a baseline.

what i noticed is the skin of the fore arm with that tat, it is looking real good, i can see they are trying to fine tune the mesh, im looking at the way the ink is like you would see on a real life arm, though you can tell its not a real person's arm, its simulation of the texture and shade's are even though simulating it, its doing a good job even with this arly build that gives you the illusion of it pretty good for such a early build. this is going to look fantastic. cannot wait.
