$5 bet that Apple is watching M$ and are laughing their asses off, they know a new Apple TV is just around the corner and at the next press event they'll show it and it will be better then the Xbox One has to offer. And the masses will run to their nearest Apple store or BestBuy and buy it over a Xbox One for those features. The people that M$ are aiming for are the ones who like or are interested in a Apple TV and we all know they'll trust Apple over M$ anyway, because it will be easier to use and understand for them. But importantly it's Apple and we all know how the moms, pops, grandparent and average joes love Apple and how uncool M$ is lol.

because of the features. they will buy it because they will be convinced its the next big thing. Like how the ipod was so huge at a time when there were already portable media players available. some even better than the ipod.

Its all about the marketing not the product itself. Some are just fixated on following a brand more than educating themselves on if the next release in that brand is really for them.

Don't forget Apple has one of the biggest ecosystems for media out there. People already invested a lot in iTunes, some people got whole collections of movies/ TV shows bought in iTunes and they would love to stream/ play them in their TVs without having to re-purchase them in Microsoft Store.

People, even in the IT industry, buy Apple products as they are already tied into the ecosystem and/for other features...

Yes marketing plays importance, nowadays more than ever, but it isn't the sole factor yet.

If you think Apple is laughing their asses off, imagine what Google is doing.

And yet, none of these devices has really caught on with the mainstream. That should say something. It's a tough market, particularly since many companies are putting this functionality directly into their TV's.

Cable TV is a dying market. Apple and Google realize this that's why they don't bother to put anymore resources besides yearly updates into their existing products. MS is chasing a pipe dream that will amount to no success in the end. They should have made a game consoles first, glorified tv remote second.

there may be some truth to the cable, satellite, or over the air broadcast but then again. MS still has all those deals with networks directly.

you dont "NEED" the other box to add to the xb1 to watch tv so long as those same networks are directly available from within the xb1 marketplace.

It seems there is a huge disconnect between the gamers and the entertainment enthusiasts. and go figure that gaming is as much a part of entertainment as tv, movies and music. Entertainment encompasses all of those genres.

That is the nature of the xb1. Its doing what the PS4 will do but the difference between the two is MS is being upfront about it being a media entertainment platform. People could look at the PS4 and associate it more with games simply due to the name.

the gamers might like that but the majority of entertainment consumers will not see it the same way and its those that Sony will have to try and convince that their PS4 is just as good as the xb1.

Like when bluray came out....sony had to market the ps3 a couple different ways because many either didnt know it played movies or games.

If you dont believe me....google it and see what comes up in regards to their marketing of the PS3 at launch. It had a sort of identity issue when it first came out.

We will likely see the PS4 in more of the gaming part of the electronic stores. When it comes to the xb1, its possible we could find it in the video gaming and high end media center and maybe even the PC sections of stores like best buy, etc.

simple to the point "WHO CARES FOR APPLE TV" MS should have presented a CONSOLE!! with hardcore games. not some damn "ALL IN ONE" unwanted box.

DigitalRaptor4015d ago (Edited 4015d ago )

Yep, Apple will come out with a new, dedicated Apple TV. and because Apple is Apple, it will steal the thunder for having that singular focus and ensured quality - unless Apple focus massively on games, then I'd be wrong.

This mirrors how Sony's dedicated machine will trounce the Xbox One's sad attempt at chasing Apple and Google, because it's dedicated to games, and developers and gamers - which all comes back to games. Whilst the Xbox One is undeniably not dedicated to games. It's focused on split avenues: sports, television, games and television. And sports. And television.

For better or for worse, Nintendo and PlayStation are dedicated gaming brands. Xbox is not.

People will realise sooner or later that Microsoft's ultimate goal with making Kinect mandatory, is to have control over their consumers, such as charging for content based on how many people are in their own personal space. And by invading your privacy to learn more about you so they can run ads tailored to you. The average consumer won't notice, but discerning gamers will.

This was Microsoft's plan all along, just like their reasoning for getting into the gaming industry was acting as a Trojan horse for the Xbox to become a television provider. The move towards the casual audience and entertainment was their second play to try and control you and extort you and hope you don't notice by sugarcoating it.

It was remade last year for PC , Now released and OPTIMIZED and PORTED for/to Xbox and PS5, not “remade” just for consoles.

“it follows a critically acclaimed release on PC back in 2023” that’s because it’s the same work/game. it’s not following/follow up or a continuation. Author Sounds like they are taking a stab at an article and don’t know the product-line lineage and release history/ hierarchy they are attempting to inform you about.

More appropriately: System Shock was first rereleased in 2023 on PC, System shock is now available on PS5 and Xbox.
