Happy Birthday PS3! The Ten Best Games (part one)

It's Bank Holiday weekend, but no rest for the wicked. Especially when PlayStation 3 is celebrating its first birthday. Yep, Sony's sleek stunner of a console is one on Sunday, and we thought we'd put together a top ten list of the very best games you can buy.

TriggerHappy5880d ago

Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank Future and Resistance, trust me on this.

Breakfast5880d ago

I agree with the first two. But, not a big fan of Resistance.

Your avatar is my most anticipated game though.

TriggerHappy5880d ago (Edited 5880d ago )

Yes. The Ghost of Sparta will be awesome as hell and will rule all. The bloodiest game of 09. Believe.

Breakfast5880d ago

im sorry guys for not liking resistance...please stop disagreeing with me.

Danja5880d ago

Just ignore the disagrees...no need to apologise for not liking RFOM...thats ur opinion....still though RFOM is a pretty awesome game maybe you should give it another chance..? 8D

NO_PUDding5880d ago

I am not too hot on RFOM either.

Immersion in games is important for me, and when I am shooting in RFOM, it feels I am sliing along on ice, and shooting BB pellets at really weak ugly creatures.

P.S
And i will get tons of diagrees, but i can see how awful a democracy this site can be with my bubbles. Just look back in my comments to see if I deserve it.

InYourMom5880d ago (Edited 5880d ago )

Breakfast I feel the same way.. RFOM was a big let down for me, it felt like a generic shooter from start to finish. It was Insomniacs first game on PS3 so I cut them some slack and it looks like RFOM2 will be better.

I think it's kind of lame that they have to use PSN titles to make a full top 10 best games list. Even though those are some great PSN titles, it would be good if they were all actual "retail" titles. I don't think they will have any problems for their 2nd birthday with that.

@1.5 - That's funny you have to actually apologize to the rabid PS3 fanboys on this site just to give your opinion because they will take away your bubbles and shun you. A serious flaw with this site. Believe me they will get no such pleasure from me and I will say straight up that RFOM was poo. Disagree, ignore and take away my bubbles all you want fanatics.

FirstknighT5880d ago

Resistance was cool. I liked it. But nothing special. I would give it a solid 8.0

I didn't like the multiplayer tho'

Ben10545880d ago

the ps3 came out march 23rd in europe and today is 22nd???

UrbanJabroni5880d ago

LOVED Uncharted and Ratchet...

But I do have to agree with Breakfast about Resistance...having not played it until recently, I really feel it is one of those launch games that has simply gotten outpaced rather quickly.

* Compared to the other two games listed, the graphics simply don't hold up (see COD2 as well). Relatively sparse environments, lack of detail (things are too "clean"), rushed "cut-scenes" and a distinctively dated lighting system mean the game just doesn't meet expectations.

* Gameplay: Resistance certainly isn't alone in this, but it is "just" an FPS. With the advancements in cover systems, physics and other gimmicks (time lapse gameplay, Portals, etc), an old-school shooter just doesn't have the appeal it did a year ago.

IMHO.

trancefreak5880d ago

I got rfom about 3 weeks ago and im still struggling with the controls. it doesnt feel tight like cod4 does which i should expect but i thing the gun aim is a lil loose and i tend to over aim. still like the game any who

Uncharted
Resistance
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Folklore
Warhawk
Everyday Shooter
MotorStorm
SuperStardust HD
PixelJunk Monsters
Heavenly Sword

Amazing first year.

Add in the amazing number of amazingly good PSP titles, downloadable PS1 titles for the PS3 and PSP, a gigantic backlog of PS2 games, 20 dollar Greatest Hits PS2 games still left to buy, and even a few big PS2 titles coming out to what will be the greatest single year for a console with the PS3 2008 lineup and PS3 owners are going to need to start hiring staffs to help them with the gigantic number of games they have to play.

Big Jim5880d ago

You make the PS3 look bad when you include a terrible game like Folklore on your list of great games.

Danja5880d ago

I personally loved Folklore..it makes the best use of the Sixaxis yet...IGN gave it a 9

maybe it didn't sell buttloads but I loved it...plz tell me you've played it..and ur basing ur opinion off experience with the game....?

Big Jim5880d ago (Edited 5880d ago )

Yes, I've played the game. I shouldn't have called it "terrible", thats a bit harsh, but it just put me to sleep (and I like JRPGS, so I'm not easily put to sleep.) Jeanne's post just sounded like a Sony press release.

Baba19065880d ago

folklore is great. i loved that game. awsome!

poeo5880d ago

What is it with always leaving out the multiplatform games? It's getting weird.. i mean who can ignore awesome games for ps3 such as COD4, Oblivion, Assassin's Creed, Burnout Paradise, DMC4, UT3, Skate etc..? Do they not EXIST?

ohh yea i forgot, since theyre also out on xbox 360, they must be awful games..

TriggerHappy5880d ago

Yeah part 1. Am sure Uncharted and Resistance are on the list for sure.

PirateThom5880d ago

23rd March is the EU launch.

Atomic5880d ago (Edited 5880d ago )

The PS3's real birthday was in November 11th, 2006. (Japan)

That's when it was first available to purchase, regardless of where it was retailing from.

LinuxGuru5880d ago

Just like how the PS2's real birthday was March 4th, 2000 in Japan....even though it came to the US and the rest of the world later that year in October and November, respectively.

I plan to snag Stardust VR soon. It is on PSN sale for cheap.

FTLmaster1107d ago

Do it! It’s a seriously addictive experience. Housemarque is the master of modern arcade classic gameplay. Curious to see how Returnal turns out tbh.

Knushwood Butt1107d ago

Thanks. Downloaded it and will be playing it shortly.

Pre-ordered Returnal too.

P_Bomb1107d ago

Loved Alienation. Good co-op!

Knushwood Butt1107d ago (Edited 1107d ago )

Yep, had a lot of fun playing it with my kids. Although they always fight over the drops.

Sony PS2 Hit SingStar Was Originally an Action-RPG

IGN India says: “ Interior Night’s Charu Desodt on bringing Singstar to life on the PS2, winning a BAFTA, and upcoming Xbox Series X|S and PC game, As Dusk Falls.”

RIP Singstar, One Of The Most Important Games In PlayStation History

This may come as a bit of a shock to Americans, since it never really took hold in the US, but Singstar was one of the most important series ever released on a Sony console. And in January 2020, after 15 years of PlayStation karaoke, it’s finally going to be shuffled off the stage.

ApocalypseShadow1631d ago

This game could live on as a VR game. Karaoke as different created characters or franchise characters from other games. Sing as Kratos or Nathan Drake or Parappa the Rapper, etc and post to social media if you're into that internet thing. Would be funny. And interesting if you had individuals who could really sing. Alloy becomes a virtual singing idol.

Sounds crazy but it's creative for VR. And you could use Dreams to create your backgrounds and music videos. I don't really sing but don't think they should give up on Singstar.

RememberThe3571631d ago

I think your last point might be a big one. Who needs SingStar when Dreams is coming out?

timotim1631d ago

So if you invested potentially hundreds of dollars in the game with DLC songs, will all of it continue to work or are you just SOL now?

rainslacker1631d ago

It'll still work. You just won't have the online features. The game can be played locally either singing together, or competing against one another, and is generally considered a pretty good party game....if you go to parties where karaoke is a thing at least. It basically doubles as a karaoke machine.

I'm not into karaoke, and you'll just have to trust me that anyone would be happy that I don't try to sing publicly, or even privately among friends. But, I've been to parties where people are having fun with it, and it's about as hit or miss as going to a karaoke bar....without the one girl who wants to sing Shania twain songs, yet can't carry a tune, or hit a high note without your pet cat committing ritual suicide.....most of the time anyways.

JonTheGod1631d ago

I loved SingStar but it hasn't been supported most of this gen. It had a half-hearted revival with a couple of discs but very little of the PS3 library transitioned across. I will probably keep my PS3 just for SingStar when PS5 comes out.

PhoenixUp1631d ago

Many of Sony’s casual franchises are falling by the wayside

rainslacker1631d ago

SingStar was huge in the US. Where did the idea that it wasn't popular in the US come from? It wasn't a hardcore game, so the hardcore gaming community never really noticed it much, but the game was a huge money maker for Sony.
