is tied to your xbox account. how is that any different than what we have now? If you go to a friends house with your game, you can recover your gamertag and then play on that other system. you can also download any game or dlc you have tied to your account to that other system.

so with xbox one, it sounds like the same thing in regards to being able to access and play games based on your account. you just cant leave the game with your friend and let them continue to play.

The game becomes unplayable unless they continue to sign in as you??? And you could probably see if they are doing that like how the 360 tells you if you were signed in on another console previously.

Used games may suffer but if you are buying 'newer' used games from gamestop...you have been suffering already. their pricing sucks as its roughly only $5 difference between new and used.

So what would be the used fee from MS? If its $5 then you are better off buying new in the first place. Unless of course you only paid $20 or $30 for the used game, then that $5 (for example) fee isnt so bad when the new price is upwards of $50.

And here's the biggest question: HOW MUCH will this fee be? I'm betting it will be at least 80% of retail, because otherwise friends can just pass a disc around, pay a much-less-than-retail fee, and install the game to their Xbox One and then keep passing the disc along.

This feature will possibly kill retail sales (by encouraging groups to buy one copy and pass it around) and definitely kill used game sales.

And you think Gamestop is gonna give you a premium spot in their stores like they did with the 360, Microsoft? Keep dreaming.

Sorry, but Sony can't pay to advertise on Xbox Live. Advertisement isn't some-end all superpower that gets you whatever you want.

And if Microsoft aims to kill used games, you can bet that the higher-ups at Gamestop will not give the system very much shelf space. The Gamestop business model is sell console/game at almost no profit > buy used console/game for pennies > resell console/game for a huge profit margin.

If Xbox One is going to interfere with their business model, they won't give much support to it.

1. If you lend your buddy a game they have to pay a fee.

2. By paying that fee your friend can play the game because it's installed on their hard drive.

3. If the game is sold everyone who paid the fee will lose access.

Conclusion if the fee isn't cheap then not only has MS made a failed attempt at killing used games they will have failed at keeping customers happy. Think of it this way say the fee is $20, you lose touch with said friend. They sell the game, you turn on your console to play it and poof it's gone...and money down the drain right into MS's pocket.

This is a dirty tactic by MS to rape funds from consumers.

it's the way gamestop is run. every company pays for their spot in the store. or else you wouldn't have demo systems on the walls where they could have more merchandise and their wouldn't have new game spots on the wall. Instead of going to gamestop, you just sell your copy digitally via the code to somebody else and they then own the code and its removed from your Xbox One.

They are trying to get people to trade used games using their Xbox One rather than have to drive to gamestop to do that.

Used games do not hurt gaming. Every used game still has dlc to buy that goes to developers. It also allows people to try games they wouldn't normally due to low cost and the ability to sell back games. Think we'd have Dark Souls, let alone Dark Souls 2 without the used game market? Doubtful.

If there is no fee, and if people can sell/trade/borrow/rent, it means that when someone else uses the disc, it activates on that person's account, and deactivates it on yours.

That would only work though if MS does a DRM check on your console, so it can take away your right to play the game if someone else registered your disc.

There is no way MS would let you stay offline to avoid those checks to continue playing a game you no longer own, so it would have to perform regular checks to see which content you are still allowed to play.

"Always on" or not, it sounds like, if there is no fee, you would have to pass an online verification either every time you start a game, or at regular intervals.

It is about twice the width of the controller, that's really not very big.

you must put all your games in the sight of the camera at all times and if one leaves for longer then 1 minute it will become deactivated. Kinect is there to keep you inline. better show it your receipt when you bring home a new game too.

I'm guessing that if you are playing straight from the Hard drive it will check online to make sure you can still play the game, and somebody else hasn't bought your copy and activated it.

And if you are playing offline, you probably need to have the disc in the tray just like the 360 does when playing an installed game.

Also, it has since been confirmed that a game is tied up to a single console and not an user gamertag so anyone can log in to a single Xbox One with their own gamertag and play the same game.

It is really simple of how the system work. Each game disc will have a unique ID and once the installation is completed on the HD, the license of the game disc is store in the cloud. Lets say, you decided to trade in the game to gamestop or sell it to someone else, the new owner of the game will do the usual installation of the disc on his or her Xbox One HD, then that is where the internet connection required parts come in. The system will check with the cloud server that contains the license. If the license matches, then the license will automatically transfer to your xbox one. The license will then deactivate on the old console from the original owner. If the license don't match, xbox live will not let you play the game or give the user an option to purchase a license for his or her console, like buying digitally, in a way.

The catch here is that whenever you play start a game, internet connection is required to check if the system you own are license to play a particular game that is on your HD. It doesn't required the console to be connected during gameplay like Sim City , however. Or like UnHoly_One said, there might also be a possibility that offline play can be achieved by having the actual disc inside the machine. I hope this clears things up.

and a further problem comes in; it looks like you will need an online connection for Microsoft to delete the game from your hard drive, so you can't sell your games to Gamestop if you're not connected.

Slavish has got it. Its not so much a fee to play used games, once a game is saved to your hard drive its tied to your account. When you sell it and the new owner saves it to their hard drive it is no longer tied to your account but to the new owners. The only issue is this sounds like it requires an internet connection to verify. How they'll get around it if you dont have one Im not sure.

How any one can say Microsoft did a good job today is ridiculous.

Their conference was 70% TV services, sports, and the most predictable of games coming back with timed exclusive content, in true MS fashion.

Then there's this. I knew if it wasn't always-online, it would be something else to screw over the consumer even more than charging for free apps and P2P online connectivity.

There was the promise of 15 exclusive games, but as far as MS is concerned, the word "exclusive" doesn't fill me with confidence.

By far, the best part of the conference was Remedy's Quantum Break. They'd better bring it to E3, not for me, but for the people who will be supporting the console.
