Interview: 2K Marin On The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

From eGamer, "Recently, we, here at eGamer, managed to sit down with Nico Bihary and Alyssa Finley from 2K Marin, and interviewed them about the studio’s upcoming game The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. To give you an overview, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (formerly known as XCOM) is 2K Marin’s take on an XCOM origin story. Unlike other XCOM games which are set in the near future, The Bureau is set in the 1960s at the height of the Cold War, where paranoia in the US was really high. In response, JFK sets up an agency to investigate possible threats and conspiracies on American soil, such as the plotting of a Soviet invasion. Following the investigation, the agency discovers that the threat is not of Soviet origin, but rather of alien origin. From that point on, the game tells the story of how this agency evolved into the early incarnation of XCOM, which is the precursor of the organisation in XCOM: Enemy Unknown".

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - A Welcome Rebirth

XCOM: Enemy Unknown rebooted the series back in 2012, and has since inspired numerous new strategy game series to be born.

If someone gets into this I'd recommend getting the enemy within version. It's got all the dlc included so it's the better version. Wish the author would've atleast mentioned it. I didn't see it.

Fantastic game though. Xcom 2 is top notch also. I've spent countless hours in these games.

Excellent game.
Played to death on PS3 years ago.

What other games were inspired by this game?

JL2930199d ago

Gears Of War Tactics, Phoenix Point. Many others.

shinoff2183199d ago

Phoenix point if I remember was created by the original xcom developer or something to that affect. I did try gears tactics some months ago and I just couldn't get into it. It's probably just me

It was, but it was really closer to the newer XCOM than the older ones. Gears Tactics was okay but was hard to get into knowing there probably wont be a sequel.

Every XCOM Game Ranked From Worst to Best

BLG writes: "COM games have been around for nearly three decades at this point in some form or another. While XCOM never managed to reach the same heights of success as other long-running franchises, the series definitely has its fair share of fans. With XCOM 3 likely still a couple of years away, we figured we’d reminisce a bit about previous games in the series and try to rank them all from worst to best."

I would have put the original game at number one if it didn't crash all the time.
Have the suspense was know if it was going to load the next round of not.

Xenial737d ago

I know these are ranking the "XCOM" games. However, Phoenix Point, which is made by the same team, is much better than all of the XCOM games. Just my opinion though. lol

Minimoth737d ago

That's not quite accurate. Phoenix Point was made by Julian Gollop, the guy who designed the original X-COM games. The new XCOM games from 2012 onward were made by Firaxis and/or other subsidiaries of 2K Games.

Dark_Overlord737d ago

Xcom 1&2 above the original o_O ..... hell no

The more recent games were a massive downgrade (1 was an unfinished mess of a game XD)

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Is Video Game Storytelling at Its Best

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified was one of the last significant releases of the seventh console generation and one of its most troubled games. It began development in 2006 but wasn’t released until 2013. It was initially unveiled as a first-person horror shooter, then turned into a third-person tactical RPG shooter. The incredibly ambitious game was hamstrung by enough drama to fill its own story.

We need more articles like this one. Every site writes about the same exact shit as every other site. Pick any game and every site follows the same pattern: Game Announcement, Teaser Trailer, Release Date, Full Trailer, Director says X, Producer says Y, Game Review, DLC announcement, post-mortem. If you read Polygon or Kotaku, toss in some articles about butts or race. This was incredibly refreshing.
