From Strategyinformer.com: "It’s hard to judge Rooks Keep based on the preview build. It’s clearly got a long way to go, and feels like a very early prototype with animations missing, balance issues, and a general lack of polish, but beneath all the tattered decorations lies the hint of something that could be a frantic and exciting game. My experience was limited to offline against bots (I couldn’t find any games happening on the preview build whenever I checked), so hopefully combat feels more natural against human opponents, because right now there’s a lot of flaws limiting the potential fun".

Rooks Keep is an interesting mishmash of things that come together in what appears to be a promising title in its Early Access stages. The game itself is themed around medieval fantasy and chess, but it brings a great deal more to the table. There are some rough edges here that still need polishing, but if the team at RuneStorm can stay the course and take some early feedback to heart, Rooks Keep could prove to be a pleasant surprise when it finally releases.
SA developer Runestorm talks Steam Greenlight hurdles and focus on what works
Rook's Keep is a game of chess if it were run through the Unreal engine and bishops could shoot blue light at their enemies. Simple controls, requires strategy.
