Far Cry Instincts - how a jungle FPS became a werewolf sim

OXM - A few months ago, Jason Brody was hangliding over the jungle, unable to decide which rare species he was going to make extinct in the pursuit of his ideal manbag. Nine years ago, Jack Carver was running through a very similar jungle, trying to avoid being made into a handbag himself. Between Far Cry 3 and Far Cry, there's a huge gap, but Instincts is the bridge.

Ranking the Far Cry Games from Worst to Best

Xfire muses: "There've been a dozen Far Cry games released so far, and while each one is memorable, not all of them are as good as the other."

Instincts

To be honest I liked new dawn the best but I loved and enjoyed playing every single one.

Not really any I would slate.

But I suppose I enjoyed all the assassins creed games to so maybe I'm just mad :)

Far Cry 5 was so bad. Not only were the devs cowards in their denial of its obvious politics, but the end makes the entire game an ultimate waste of effort. 30-40 hours doing all of the missions and side quests, I had fun, but when a game's end shits on the player like that... definitely won't be getting my time again.

Yeah 5 was such a step back while looking like a step forward in marketing

I even liked the setting, the countryside with a reiligious cult, but they really missed the mark

The villain was boring, they didn't get more twisted with the cult as they could have, the wasn't really much structure to the main missions, it didn't make you want to do the side missions, not much variety while travelling the map and they then made the character mute which just really hindered the story

Oh and the whole "choose your gender" bullshit, like seriously it's not that kind of game, just pick a gender and focus on some top quality voice acting for them.

I'm glad voice acting for the main character is back for FC6 but the male character like AC Odyssey seems like an after thought.

Rachel_Alucard1030d ago (Edited 1030d ago )

The male character being an after thought has been a thing at Ubisoft since at least AC odyssey. Both Kassandra and fem Eivor were both made the canon protag and Alexios and Male Eivor were only made because leadership needed them to sell to people. They weren't wrong either since 74% of the playerbase picked the male option. But for some reason they continue to do this character option thing but never fully commit to it, they'd rather waste time and resources doing both instead of just doing what the market wants or what the devs want. I blame the execs at Ubisoft, but the devs are also partly to blame since they just absolutely need to have women in every lead role despite all the market data showing them otherwise. I don't care who you play as, just quit sacrificing development work doing both. It's like they are thinking repeatedly doing this will magically change the market landscape. We've been doing this song and dance for years even outside of gaming and getting more demographics to play games won't work unless you start designing games with slice of life, drama, and social interactions. Just making a Far Cry, AC, or Watch dogs with a female lead will never be relatable to anyone both male and female. It's like how Marvel just took multiple heroes like Wolverine and Captain America and just slapped a woman on the cover with the exact same outfit and sales bombed after that. Nobody reading comics wants things like that.

3 and blood dragon awesome

2 very interesting but not as much fun to play with weapons keep jamming/breaking and the check posts respawning enemies became tedious

Personally: 3>blood dragon>2>4>1>5 and i didn't bother with the rest
