Fez creator Phil Fish took to Reddit today to answer questions posed by fans. One fan asked if Fez is coming to the Nintendo 3DS, and Fish replied by saying he and his team don’t have any plans to bring the puzzler to Nintendo’s latest handheld. Fish went on to say it would be pointless to bring Fez to the Nintendo 3DS and that it wouldn’t work on the autostereoscopic device.
Game developers have already started to confirm that they will support the Nintendo Switch 2 with their future titles.
Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."
The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.
Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
It doesn't need to be about 3D. I would have figured it was about broadening the audience on a currently best selling platform.
I haven't played it, but Fez looks like a freakin amazing game. I find it a shame that it isn't on the 3DS.
I'm hopeful that the game at least shows up on Vita. I'm not playing favorites since I own a 3DS too. I simply think that this sort of game should be enjoyed on a handheld.
Phil Fish clearly hasn't played Cave Story (the eShop release) or VVVVVV (again, the eShop release). If he did, he would see that these games with strictly 2D sprites actually look pretty nice with the 3D effect.
I don't see why it would be any different with Fez. More so considering that, in top of the 2D sprites, Fez has that amazing changes in rotation, where the game actually becomes 3D if so very briefly. Those instances would look incredibly superb with the 3D effect.
So, he's totally wrong on this one, and should get to work with a 3DS version. Finish the Vita one, and then do one for 3DS, he will have many sales guaranteed because the 3DS has now a pretty great install base and a game like Fez would be VERY popular on the eShop.
Didn't Phil Fish say that Fez "should be out on pretty much everything"? Last time I checked, the 3DS is a part of "everything."
I mean, I don't see why putting Fez on 3DS is a bad business move. If you're going to bother putting it on iOS and Vita, just put it on 3DS. It doesn't need the 3D effect to be worth playing, especially if the game design is so good.
Phil needs to get his ideas in line before he opens his mouth. You'd think he'd learn by now.
