Revelations HD Loading Times are Scary

From GamesReviews:

"Players who want to finish Resident Evil: Revelations HD might be disappointed to learn that there will be more than a few pauses in their adventure; the game in its current state boasts loading times of well over half a minute. Although the 3DS version wasn't a great deal better, people willing to buy both the original and HD port of the game will have been hoping that a little optimization may have cut back on load times."

You mean to tell me that they potentially optimized this game so quickly and poorly that the loading times are now LONGER than that of the 3DS version? Are you freaking serious?

There's a big ol' "WTF" I'd like to give to Capcom if this turns out to be true.

MasterCornholio4074d ago

Didnt you see the comparison video? The load times for the console versions are the same as the ones for the 3DS.

BattleReach4074d ago

No, they just skipped the loading screens. Why would they put loading times in a comparison video?

zeee4074d ago (Edited 4074d ago )

Well, we all hate that stupid "LOADING" screen don't we? You'd think that they'd try to optimize it further and make it work better than expected but nooooooo, Capcom along with Square Enix are one of the worst developers this gen. I am not going to call it a "FACT". "To each, his own" but I think it comes as close to being a fact as it can get.

It's like, at least this gen, Capcom and Square Enix are deliberately trying to do the opposite of what their fans ask for. After that gigantic ass of a failure that was RE6, you'd think that suits at Capcom would have learned their lesson but... Nooooo :)

cartridges load faster than a disk #fact

kB04074d ago

Thats not always true, don't think just because of the 90s....

It depends on the read speed of the lens, on how optimized the game is and for the case of cartridges the quality of the actual Chip.

Don't forget that consoles have higher textures and improve graphics to load, compared to the 3ds which is about 240p comparing to 720p.

Also I highly doubt companies will invest too much on gaming cartridges...they are just there to hold information...transfer speed is nowhere near the focus...compared to lets say space.

So what we are seeing here is a factor of really poor optimization (I mean on pc RE5 and RE6 bencmark load almost instant, even on ps3 it loaded extremely fast with more going on), and just lousy placing of assets within the game. Remember this game was made for the 3Ds hardware first:)

We'll most likely see a day 1 patch to fix this issue:).

I already have it for 3Ds, so I will not be purchasing it...I might have if it came on the vita or if it had Coop.

This is just a cash in for 40$, go to your local game store if you have a 3Ds and you can can find it for anywhere 10$-15$ used and $20 new. Canadaian prices at least.

Good luck!

Fyi
Load times were very long on the 3Ds as well, but not this long!

Oh_Yeah4073d ago (Edited 4073d ago )

@kB0 a game installed on a ssd drive (cartridge) is always faster than a game running off disc... And that's without the game being optimized to take advantage of a ssd. If the game industry doesn't go fully digital in the next couple gens I can see the cartridge making a comeback on consoles as ssd drops in price. It's just technically beneficial to gaming in every way compared to current disc formats. I guess some of you look at cartridge like oh that's old school there's no way it's better than disc, that's not it at all... Cartridges stopped because disc's were cheaper to produce not because they were better. Games run quicker when fully installed to a hard drive compared to disk right? Well what do you think a hard drive is? It's a mixture of cartridge technology and disc technology... Where an ssd is all cartridge and outperforms that...

cannon88004074d ago

Instead of making the game scary, they made the loading times "scary"

DeadlyFire4074d ago

You guys really going to crap if the game takes an extra 5 seconds to load?

This is a straight port. Loading times do not improve on a port. Its the fact of life. If you wanna play then play. Don't expect it all to be perfect when its coming from a mobile gaming platform.

OhMyGandhi4073d ago

Ah...the good ol' complacent consumer... You are exactly the kind of buyer that Capcom loves.

MoveTheGlow4073d ago

This is Capcom we're talking about, right? Go make yourself a sandwich! :P

Oh DMC4, your legacy will live forever.

Irishguy954073d ago

"Straight port"

Is teh problem.

ChronoJoe4074d ago

3DS version runs off solid state memory, and standard definition textures.

In terms of loading, it should be a little faster than its console counterparts, really.

matgrowcott4074d ago

20-25 seconds on 3DS, currently 30-35 seconds on consoles.

It'd still be nice for them to get that down though, of course.

Oh_Yeah4073d ago (Edited 4073d ago )

Cartridges are faster than disc man... Where were you in the 90s? Them instant boot times and that quick loading mmm. To bad it's not economical to make 50gb ssd cartridges to put games on.

Erimgard4074d ago

I noticed that there were long loading times in a bit of gameplay footage that leaked a few days ago. I was hoping this was fixed for the Wii U, but clearly bumping up to HD graphics was enough to keep it bogged down.

Still, these loading times are in specific areas, and you always know when one's coming up. It wasn't THAT big of an inconvenience on the 3DS.

BattleReach4074d ago

Too high pricetag, less extra content, long loading times..

At least I hope they spell the games' title good on the boxart.

jc485734074d ago

those extra content are converted into dlcs. it has been confirmed long ago.

Soldierone4074d ago

All the more reason to not buy it then.

DarkBlood4074d ago

i think that was a joke soldierone lol, as an owner of the 3DS version who plans to get the ps3 version or the wiiu version i dont know for sure

i can safely say the singleplayer is full, this extra content is not all that much which is just related to the raid mode side of things

kB04074d ago

@Darkblood

Single player or not, you can't possibly sell an inferior version on superior consoles. I mean even Peace Walker HD came with more...and the collection came with 3 games on one disk for 40$ then quickly discounted to 30$....this is absolutely high way robbery!

Also...it might be cheaper if you bought it for 3Ds including purchasing a 3Ds console.

I mean you can purchase a used console anywhere from 50-100$, a new 100-160 (depending on sale) + the 3Ds verison for 20$.

So average scenerio lets say you cheapen out, get a used 3Ds for 80$ + 20-40$ for the game...you pay about 3 times more but walk out with superior version with coop, and a brand new console....and portability!

NYC_Gamer4074d ago

50 bucks is too much for upscaled handheld ports anyway

CanadianTurtle4074d ago

Thanks for the warning.

Steam Uproar as Capcom Slips In Restrictive DRM Software

From Xfire: "Steam users and the larger PC gaming community are lashing out at Capcom over a streak of sneaky DRM updates as the Japanese gaming giant continues to flirt with controversy"

LordoftheCritics93d ago

RIP

Capcom turning into Ubisoft.

Well success can have that effect.

just_looken93d ago

Yep this shows how bad a digital world is now well for the old titles new games disc or not the drm is there but you can get the old games on dvd then try to monkey the last pre drm update onto the game files.

I love GOG for this reason i saw that skyrim bs update so i know not to run that version as gog you can select what patch to download/install with capcom hopefully we get a list of the update numbers that add this horrific drm.

With denuvo as a alder lake pc user it still has issues with E cores and i remember when the servers were taken offline forcing hundreds of games to be paperweights.

https://www.pcgamer.com/a-g...

FinalFantasyFanatic93d ago

It's also really annoying how they can cut or change content later, like the Skull Girls controversy, a decade later after the game came out, they decide to censor it. The game is a decade old, if it's not broken, leave it, adding DRM back into older games is BS.

just_looken93d ago

@final

Good point even major sp games got the cut after the fact be it last of us with maps/art or gta 5 removing stuff in the world.

Cyberpunk ps4 day one disc copy the sept build still has stuff the other versions no longer have.

With the gta 6 controversy right now i think back to the days of saints row creating a character beating up cops with a dildo bat and now we have elon crying over gta 6 guns killing cops i bet you if they made saints row 2 hd they would half to cut half the games content or go to jail lol also sad.

Was watching avatar last airbender 13yr old ang kissing katar again can not have that in a kids show or game now.

PRIMORDUS93d ago (Edited 93d ago )

Do they want more of their games to be torrented? Seems like it, I don't mind 🤣 Just ripped them a new asshole on Twitter, as I do not care what I say or post on there LOL.

banger8893d ago

Let me guess, you have a vpn enabled. For your sake I hope it's not in any 5 Eyes territories.

PRIMORDUS93d ago

I have ExpressVPN but on Twitter I don't use it lol. For other things I use it :D

Barlos92d ago

Nice. I got a lifetime ban on Twitter back in 2020 for speaking my mind. Don't care tbh, I'm not really into social media. I don't even have a Facebook account.

PRIMORDUS92d ago

I'm still trying to get banned to lol I'll keep at it 🤣 I have FB but maybe log in once a month but yeah always speak your mind no matter how bad the words come out, do not hold back online or IRL. Fuck them shit bags lol.

got_dam93d ago

This is classic Capcom. They everything they go on a hot streak and win back some consumer good will they have to turn around and burn it to the ground and have to start the whole process again.

Chocoburger93d ago (Edited 93d ago )

Additional DRM just pushes people to pirate more. These ignorant executives just don't get it. Only the legitimate customer is affected by DRM. 😕

Darkegg92d ago

Drm punishes legit customers and encourage hackers. It’s the wrong way to go about it.

It's Time For Resident Evil's Most Unique Mode to Make a Comeback

With series staple Mercenaries Mode returning to the Resident Evil 4 Remake, it’s time to remind fans of another mostly forgotten mode from the RE series. Reaching the second chapter in the 2012 3DS game Resident Evil: Revelations unlocked something called Raid Mode for players to enjoy. Unlike Mercenaries, Raid Mode is not a time-attack mode and instead operates as a more RPG-lite version of the main game. While players are expected to try and hammer down on a handful of levels in Mercenaries, Raid Mode gives players a much more expansive game type to play around with.

This mode was included in ports released on the seventh and eighth generations of consoles and was part of Resident Evil: Revelations 2, which was released in 2015. However, the Revelations duology is the only time that Raid Mode has existed in the massive Resident Evil franchise, and that should change in some future release.

I'd like to raid mode make a return in the future. When Capcom was hacked there was a as of yet announced RE game in there that I was hoping might turn into Revelations 3. There were also reports that whatever that RE game was scrapped and cancelled.
