At Tokyo Game Show last year, the game that made my trip was at Taito's booth: Space Invaders Extreme for the Nintendo DS. 2008 is Space Invaders' 30th anniversary, and this remake was clearly going to celebrate the milestone in style. The version at the show was only a short one level demo, but it was enough to keep me wanting more, and I immediately returned to the states and waited for import shops to put it up for preorder in anticipation of its February 2008 release date.

Now, a decade later and with Space Invaders hitting its 40th anniversary, Space Invaders Extreme has been revived on PC. It’s roughly based on the Xbox 360 version but with a some major tweaks and quality-of-life enhancements.
