Rare's cancelled Perfect Dark game would have been built around an "open-ended sandbox" that felt similar to Deus Ex, an ex-Rare developer has revealed.
With the Perfect Dark reboot set to launch later this year, it's time to look back at Perfect Dark Zero, nearly 20 years later.
At the rate xbox is going you'll have another 20 years to play the original before the reboot arrives
Perfect Dark Zero launched alongside the Xbox 360 back in 2005, to much criticism. 18 years later, is it worth another look?
Perfect Dark Zero was the first game that I purchased for my XBOX 360. I still have the game in my collection. I think I played it for about 45 minutes in total over the past 18 years. It's a really bad game, and I was so disappointed when I first fired it up almost 20 years ago.
I had fun with the mutiplayer. Didnt feel like Perfect Dark, but still had some fun with it
Rival companies, including Sony and Ubisoft, are being good sports by congratulating Nintendo on Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's launch.
Well deserved and how AAA is done. 96 meta score...please be inspired other AAA companies lol.
I own both PS5 and Switch and I am really enjoying BOTW for the moment so I am not ready for Tears of the Kingdom, but I'll get it eventually.
It's a quality game and I wish Nintendo were a cross platform developer and not a hardware specific one. as can you imagine this on series x or Ps5. Just look at the ue5 stuff people have done, hope there next hardware is extraordinary.
Microsoft probably wanted it to be kinect but canned it cause it would have been awesome without kinect.
But in all seriousness that sounds cool I still like playing the original shame it was cancelled.
Shame, it would have given them a second chance after Zero. Zero would have been good had it not been for the controls. Moving Joanna felt like driving a tank.
and instead they got them making avatars.
well done ms. o_O
I'm not going to go down the implicit 'Rare is creative', 'Microsoft are just business' line at all.
Microsoft let Rare make Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts which still seems like an incredibly bold thing to do.
Whilst the game doesn't entirely agree with me, I realise that is partly because I lazily can't be bothered to make vehicles. And they let them make Grabbed by the ghoulies and later release Kameo which they originally started for the Gamecube.
Microsoft always seem to have been very serious about trying to keep Rare as it was on Nintendo consoles.
I don't think that they ever wanted Rare to become just like any other developer so the grittier take that Rare proposed for Perfect Dark Core might have seemed unnecessary to them. Microsoft are suprisingly about the kids. It's just disappointing that Rare hasn't come up with anything more than a sports game for their Kinect.
WHAT?!?!?! I didnt know this..........first they cancelled a great looking Kameo 2 and now they say MS had cancelled a new Perfect Dark..........WOW......makes me wonder if the Heads over at Microsoft can only count to potato.
