Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition Review [Capsule Computers]

The current generation of consoles, specifically the Xbox 360, has proven itself to be a popular and simple means to resurrect a number of Dreamcast games; last year’s Dreamcast Collection being another that came on disc, not to mention HD remakes of games like Jet Set Radio and Ikagura ported on Xbox Live Arcade. Many of these games harbour fond memories from the cult console. Under Defeat, on the other hand, is a little different as, unless they imported it, it won’t have touched players’ Dreamcasts this side of Japan, so Rising Star Games’ release of the game carries extra significance.

Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition Review | PixelPerfectGaming

As we make that smooth transition from current to next-gen consoles, this fellow old school gamer finds it refreshing to come across titles that serve as gorgeous reminders of those action-packed moments from yesteryear, and “Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition” from G. Revolution and Rising Star Games is such the title. UDHD is an arcade shooter (which was first released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2006) that has players taking over the role as a helicopter pilot that is caught in a conflict between the Empire and the Union. What makes UDHD’s story more interesting is that it’s based on World War II.

ZTGD | Under Defeat HD (360) Review

Drew Leachman writes: I’ve played my fair share of side/up scrolling shooters. Granted, I have never been very good at them, but I do enjoy them from time to time. The “bullet hell” genre is a bit of a different monster in the grand scheme of shoot ‘em ups, where maneuvering takes precedence over pinpoint shooting. Under Defeat HD is one of those games.
