Fantastic numbers this week for the Nintendo 3DS entertainment system.

The last few weeks of gaming have been very competitive as far as game releases, and competing sales go. It is nice to see Nintendo one more time land in the number 1 position with hardware units sold for the week. I am sure that the recent release of Nintendo DS entertainment system exclusive Pokemon Black and White 2 played a heavy handed role in making it all possible. It is also warming to see Nintendo's leading hand held further its install base, and sell upward of 22 million units worldwide with this much time left in the holiday season.

The fact the each Nintendo 3DS entertainment system is backward compatible with all last generation software offerings made it an easy choice for the consumer to support Pokemon with no hesitation. On a sadder note, it is unfortunate to see the New Super Mario Bros 2 has been pushed out of the top 10 after an extended healthy life on the charts. Though I predict a return to the bracket as we move closer to Christmas.

Rated E For Everyone

seems like u just keep winning buddy.. The world adores the 3DS for reasons that exceed my comprehension.. I love the 1st party on it so i understand that but damn lol... Pokemon, Just Dance, & Skylanders dont interest me in the slightest but ppl LOVE IT.. i just dont get it.. Vita barely squeezes a game into the top 20 but then again, it only has an install base of roughly 3 mil compared to 3DS having 20+ mil..

Why cant game like Revelations, Code of Princess, or Heroes of Ruin sell like these? Those kind of games are more my style but it seems like the games i enjoy are getting more & more rare these days.. Oh well, i dont really care what sells anymore.. I buy what i like regardless of what other ppl decide to buy..

Rated M for Mature lol

Hey dont give up on the battle yet. The holiday season has yet to truly begin. Things might turn around in your favor. But yes you should always buy what you want regardless of sales, just be safe with your purchase.

In the fake charts this week.

Microsoft shipped 1.7 million 360s in September, but obviously they haven't sold that many yet. I'd say VG chartz is pretty accurate here... or are you thinking about IGN (the new App on LIVE) that turned the shipped 70 million to sold numbers? They included the shipped 1.7 million by the way. It WAS in the original statement from Microsoft but eh, a little manipulation can't hurt.

Why are people disagreeing? A leads a lead isn't it? What's the problem? Or do you still believe that article that used Sony's March 2012 63.4 million and compared it to Microsoft's September 2012 70 million number (including 1.7 million shipped)?

SIdepocket4204d ago

Maybe they're disagreeing because they feel sorry that a 50+ year old man has nothing better to do than troll this site and argue with children over video games.

How absolutely pathetic. You have my sympathies, gramps.

Dark souls still going strong. Good to see

Yeah, that big jump in sales comes from Japan. Perhaps the special addition just released over there.

Too bad nobody bought Forza Horizon. Another great, critically acclaimed addition to the franchise that nobody buys. Why?

It's a shame someone can see more value in a game like MOH: W, than Forza Horizon.

Blastoise4204d ago

Wow, you're right. Wonder why it sold so low

Ducky4204d ago

It sold low because it's simply too arcadey. It's a children's game and can't match the true authentic experience of the real farming simulator.

The Games Industry Continues To Wonder What Is The Point Of Its Own Existence

While many gaming layoffs are cruel, Tango Gameworks being culled after Hi-Fi Rush doesn't even make sense.

Good read. I think the point is important. Cuz the message it sends is, make a bad game? Well shut you down. Make a good game? We still might shut you down. How the fuck are you supposed to feel any sense of job security under those conditions. The level of core incompetence at play in the upper levels of this industry is staggering. This is common sense shit. You can’t chase trends on a 2 year cycle when games take fucking 6-8 years to make. Just let artists fucking art for gods sake. They don’t understand the basic principle that they’re all haggling for the same slice of fucking pie and the market will not bear it. Find a different fucking pie.

Might be a great game but it clearly did not make enough money to justify having the team make another game (under the MS umbrella).

It's never been just about whether your game is good or bad. The industry is full of great/underrated games that have a cult following or critical acclaim, but that fail to make great sales. Sad but true. It's a high stakes game, and at the end of the day, companies have to be profitable and make profitable investments. At the very least, there has to be the expectation of a long-term profit even if not profitable today. That goes for anything, no matter if the company is gigantic or a tiny mom-and-pop. We don't have to like it, but our buying habits played a hand in creating this monster.

I will keep harping that the industry has overreached its actual market and that it will implode. That implosion is already starting.

“…make a bad game? Well shut you down. Make a good game? We still might shut you down.”

I got chills. It shouldn’t have come to this.
