Sony Online Entertainment boss John Smedley says EverQuest Next's "fundamental shift to emergent gameplay" was because they didn't want to follow today's definition of massively multiplayer online.
The engine and tech powering SOE's EQ Next "has not changed," and "a lot of the guts" remain the same, but they went back to the drawing board on "all the design elements."
Let nostalgia take you back to the lands you once roamed until they were cruelly taken offline and away from us. MMOGames list the top 10 MMOs that died and left us with a hole in our hearts.
I agree when it comes to The Sims Online. That game was really fun and nothing has even come close to it. I still crave a new Sims with online multiplayer. Blows my mind they haven't done anything like that since The Sims Online or even The Sims Bustin' Out on PS2.
EverQuest Next was cancelled last month almost as an afterthought in a blog post by Daybreak president Russell Shanks, to the surprise of no-one. What is surprising, however, is the strange malaise that led to it and the hopeful solution.
The PS4 is still a very young, and yet very successful home console. Despite the fact that the PS4 is so young, we have seen many great titles already get cancelled for the ever popular Playstation 4. In this video The VitaBoys count down the five greatest PS4 games that you unfortunately will never get to play.
Ahh EQ. My first MMO. Lots of fond memories of that game. Many weekends spent camping the AC in U Guk or FBSS in L Guk. Have to keep an eye on this one.
Hopefully they should already know without needing the example set by SWTOR. If you do n ot have end game content, people are not going to stick around.
I've never played EQ. However, I am impressed with what the developers are saying about changing things up. While it is a risk, no MMO can survive alongside WOW if all they do is copy WOW *cough SWTOR cough.* Maybe it won't make a difference, but at least it sounds like they are making an attempt that wall versus putting something out that's destined to die... like the Elder Scrolls MMO.
Cant wait for eq next. loved EQ.. so much better than WoW.
