Medal of Honor: Warfighter "likely to be a major disappointment"

Electronic Arts is set to ship Medal of Honor: Warfighter this week in the US, Europe and Australia (with a Japanese release slated for mid-November), but there's no denying that it'll be a tough shooter market to launch into with Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Halo 4 both looking for big sales. In fact, Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz said that the new Medal of Honor is "likely to be a major disappointment" and will "struggle" to reach 2 million sales across the globe.

I sorta feel the same way, as much as I wish it wouldn't.

finbars754207d ago

I agree It possibly could be terrible on the MP side but to me its all about the SP.The SP for MOH2010 was great and a hell of alot better then CODs but the MP was just a shit show. The reviews wont be great but I still think the game will be good but not as good as other FPS.Im still buying it no matter what the reviews say because we all have different opinions and different taste about games. So really it comes down to what type of games you like. Its a FPS like any other and thats it.Plus its a great price.

doogiebear4206d ago

Terrible? He meant dissapointment in sales, not necessarily in quality.

otherZinc4206d ago

You must be kidding! That single player was horrendous! If you think thats good, ALL WAR games are great. MOH is as terrible as it gets, MOH 2 will be the same BS.

I didn't even try the mp. So I dont know if its as bad as that Sh**** SP.

So yeah, MOH2 is going to likely SUCK & Disappoint!

geth1gh4206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

And why do you think it will get terrible sales... lol.

Yes cod and other games are coming out but in the end it still majorly leads to the game and nothing else.

I got caught up in the hype of the first one and it was fun and all but at the end of the day it was extremely generic. From the way moh:w has been marketed from announcement it was very apparent (to me at least) that it would be no different.

da_2pacalypse4206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

It's an EA product... You were actually expecting quality? Come on, all their games since 2011 have all be somewhat disappointing. Yes, they're good, but none have been better than their predecessors.

Forget sales! Let's talk about quality right now.

EA = sequels upon sequels of games that focus on dumbing down the experience in order to appeal to the lowest common denominator. This is why the quality of their games has been so low in the last few years.

Appealing to the lowest common denominator only works for specific game franchises.... And even then, you can't please everyone, you'll lose your loyal fanbase. These guys need to get their act straight and actually stick to their guns in their franchises rather than simplifying the game mechanics on every single new iteration that they put out...

knowyourstuff4206d ago

To be fair, the article refers to sales being disappointing due to the extremely tight FPS market right now, with Black Ops 2 getting more preorders than any game in history, and Halo 4, it isn't a market I'd like to compete in that's for sure, as those two games are going to tie up about 98% of the entire FPS market in a period of just a few weeks apart.

No one is really certain what the single player game will be like to make a prediction that it will be really good or bad one way or the other.

BattleAxe4206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

The Medal of Honor Reboot sucked. The multiplayer was one of the worst crafted experiences this generation. The single player was mediocre at best.

If the Medal of Honor: Warfighter Beta was anything to go by, this game is going to suck. Danger Close decided to bring a knife to a gunfight with this latest attempt of trying to compete with CoD, or even Battlefield for that matter. They couldn't even come up with an original name for this game......"cough" Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter "cough" "cough"

Syntax-Error4206d ago

When are you fools going to grow up? Jesus Christ! Move on with your lives and grow the f-ck up. Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 are going to clean up the FPS genre this holiday season. MoH2 will be lucky to see 120K online. Have you people even seen Halo 4? That game looks amazing. Even BO2 looks better than MW3. The funny thing is that this game uses the frostbite 2.0 engine and I don't see destruction. What's the difference between this and any other shooter. I actually had this game pre-ordered and removed it for Halo 4 because I don't see the point. There's nothing there for me to get all excited about.

Ju4206d ago

Spreading the FUD is strong amongst the CoD die hards. I am looking forward to this game. MoH was the better game than the last CoD installment. No matter what people say. The only downfall was using UE3 for the SP. No with that game everything is Frostbite. This is EAs BF version for fast based FPS. I like it. Can't wait to get that game. And I don't really care if the sell another 2M or 10M. Are we all getting insane here?

r1sh124206d ago

but why would you buy MOH when the next Battlefield is out not long after?
It happened with the last MOH and BF3, why would you buy MOH, when BF3 was significantly better.
MOH should be considered BF 2.5, EA know it is not have the appeal of COD of BF, why would anyone invest in this game?

Sarcasm4206d ago

I don't think its FUD that MOH will be bad or anything like that, it's more like COD is just a giant sales juggernaut that cannibalize most game sales unfortunately. :(

mafiahajeri4206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

I saw the multiplayer first hand and it didnt look good at all...

Ive come to the conclusion that any game that promises you a beta of an upcoming game BF3 in this case is not going to be anything good.

geth1gh4206d ago

I completely agree.

There are exceptions every now and then. I think the people that bought crackdown for the halo 3 beta realized this.

Probably the most unexpected fun I have ever had with a game.

RememberThe3574206d ago

I disagree, but I've come to realize that you can't judge shooters by what you see. It's how it feels, and you can't get that from a youtube video.

Muffins12234206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

Well,im skeptical too...ill just wait to the reviews before I buy... but i think this one will/might sell better because of that bf3 popularity...though its not made by the same people, its published and looks graphically for similar and that's enough to trick the average 13 year old consumer on the console

gatormatt804206d ago

Yeah I think it's time EA and MoH give up on trying to be/beat CoD. I even think that they would also benefit in moving the release window of MoH from fall to possibly spring time. There's just way too much competition from bigger franchises which are overshadowing MoH. Release MoH in the spring or summer after everyone is tired of CoD.

GuyThatPlaysGames4206d ago

Of course this game is a disappointment. Look at all the other MoH titles that have come out in the past few years or so. All garbage. They just need to bury the series and be done.

Ak47Russia4206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

Very important!

"ignore review sites, a lot of money is involved and companies pressure review sites but threatening to withdraw early access if they don't get a 9/10 or above review."

And some major gaming sites won't review a game for free! they don't care about readers they, money is the subject here.

DeadlyFire4206d ago

It could do well, but personally I see lots of missteps that kick it under the table. I might buy it for 20 bucks though. They could have done alot more with it really. EA-LA/Danger Close needs to be fired and a new team hired. No offense, but EA needs to pick a better talent pool to craft this game. They have also failed at creating a big hype around the game for its launch. I mean its certainly coming, but its 2nd tier compared to even their BF3 DLC in their eyes.

I plan to pick up regardless at some point, but it all depends. BO2 and Halo 4 are definite buys for me.

This game is even gonna strugge to keep community alive till next year ! EA even knows it, they didn't even send review copies 0_o

Ducky4207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

Well, if we want to focus on the negatives, then there's a few alarming signs:

- Pre-order incentives try to encourage people to buy before reviews, with one incentive being a beta for a different game
- Beta was only released on one platform
- No reviews out yet
- Game has already been discounted ($40 for consoles, $30 for PC)
- EA is not puffing their chests like they did with BF3, or even with MoH 2010

Proeliator4207d ago

And where has the game been discounted?

Ducky4206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

^ Canadian Walmart -> http://n4g.com/news/1104979...

PC version is discounted from Origin itself for people who own BF3 premium. (I actually have 2 spare codes for 50% off MoH)

Cam9774206d ago

Yep, I'm not going to buy this. Most people probably aren't aware of it!

doogiebear4206d ago

Gimme one of those codes for free. You can send it via PM. Thanks in advance <3

LOOK_AT_THIS_I4206d ago

@fat
Agreed the limited beta, the way the last games multiplayer was handled. The way that bf3 was rushed into the market shortly after this and the timing of the release spells doom for this game imo.

I have it coming from gamefly and I'm sure if they keep the online pass garbage with this title then it will soon be in a bargain bin. The small community that will pick this up will be gone in a month to two months and then the support will drop to focus on the next battlefield they are rushin to the market. Yet again.

I smell shenanigans with this release, this time I'm not dropping down the cash just gotta wait for gameflys slow ass delivery.

I'm pretty sure the game isn't good. But the title is about as generic as it can get

vortis4206d ago

Sounds like a game sent out to die behind a shed.

NYC_Gamer4207d ago

I only enjoyed the older MOH games from back in the day

Relientk774207d ago

I loved the PS1 Medal of Honor games, and Frontline was also awesome as well

csreynolds4206d ago

This. What the hell happened, huh?

HammadTheBeast4206d ago

I loved the PSP one too. Some of the best multi player on the handheld, and 32 players, which is amazing.

JayD-1K4206d ago

I was hoping for a remake of the PSP MOH with a 32MP on the Vita!

I was going to DL the older version but, no MP on it.
to me, this is what's making the new versions of CODBOd so frustrating! 4v4...really?!!!

Godchild10204207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

It seems like some of EA's veteran Developers are not as good as they once were. Started with Black Box with NFS:The Run and now Danger Close with Medal of honor. I'm still picking MoH up on Tuesday, just maybe there devs need to try a different Genre or a new publisher?

Ju4206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

Why? What was so bad about the last MoH? I think it was just "hip" to talk that game down. I thought it was great. I think like most people actually played it think so, too.

Swiggins4206d ago

Not me...The game was a repetitive slog the whole way through, In both the Multiplayer and the Singleplayer.

The campaign was entirely forgetable, I know people said it was really good and, "Way better than Call of Duty" but let's be honest here, the campaign was mediocre at best, and I honestly didn't give a damn about any of the characters or what was happening, Spout all you want about "realism" but MoH was just as unrealistic as any CoD campaign, and at least CoD has the common decency to put in a decent setpiece every once in awhile to spice up the gameplay.

As far as Multiplayer goes, MoH had some of the most lazy, bare bones multiplayer I've ever seen. The gunplay was alright, but that was about it, everything else was either horrible, or average. The map selection was terrible, the weapon diversity was terrible, the spawn system was terrible, the sound was ok...not as good as what DICE usually does....and finally and most importantly, there was just not enough there to keep people occupied for more than a weekend.

RememberThe3574206d ago

I think the problem is that most people who hate on it never played it. I can understand that since the reviews weren't kind and they probably didn't want to waste their time. But I thought it was really good actually, a lot better than COD has been the last few years.

bubblebeam4206d ago

@Ju

It wasn't 'hip' to talk that game down. It's just people who liked BF and CoD didn't like it as much as those 2, hence low sales.

Unless of course you think reviewers purposely gave it average reviews just to make a 'hip' discussion out of it.

Fact is, people have different tastes. More people dislike it than people who like it. Doe that make the people who like it wrong? Hell no.
At least it shows who the true fans are.

DeadlyFire4206d ago

New publisher is not an option. I believe they are owned by EA.

EA just needs some new leaders on their game development teams. Current ones suck.

EA Hopes to Use Generative AI to Drive Monetization and Make Development 30% More Efficient

Today Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson provided a look into his ideas for the use of generative AI in the company's development processes.

EA is already dying a painful death..

peppeaccardo52d ago

i have a better idea .. why the whole exec team doesn't get replaced by chat bots ?

just_looken53d ago

Though i agree the ai thing is already in other forms of media there have been ai translations/scripts/voice over and even full ai commercials aired on tv. Ubisoft has created a ai game creator story/vo/music except the building of the game

The new unreal engine has auto terrain creation tools

In the world of greed in which it is winning without any major blow back ai is our future.

everyone want's biden dead on the mic or a criminal instead of a woman and now we are getting ai everything because no one will stop watching/playing ai created media.

GamerRN52d ago

Maybe they should just focus on making good games?

Just a thought...

Kiryu199252d ago

Exactly EA are just pure evil. When they are beating Bank of America to be voted the worst company to work for that’s saying a lot

Good thing I don’t buy their games day one and wait for deep deep sale years after launch (the select few games I am actually interested in)

Gaming is making so much money yet the greed of these companies is never ending

CEO’s and people on board making millions yet cutting jobs to those who are actually making the products

EA is still a shady shitty company even with or without the help of Skynet. All they will use AI for is new ways to milk loot boxes and come up with the same sports title with a different year on the label. They are one company I truly do hate with a passion. They single handedly ruined some great franchise with their death touch. ME, Dead Space, Alice Returns, Dante's Inferno.

EA layoffs followed by 'Generative AI to Drive Monetization'

I knew it. Wonder what AI salary looks like? Nothing.

ChasterMies52d ago

I having a feeling that most of the layoffs in the industry are based on the idea that AI will do the same job for less.

DarXyde52d ago

Very likely, yes.

Made worse by the fact that the execs aren't changing their compensations.

My deepest fear at this point is that we are now in the capitalism endgame.

At this point, we really should just burn AI to the ground. Executives cannot be trusted to do the right thing.
How are those people expected to support families if everything gets automated?

Barlos53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

And take away creativity, and people's jobs as we've been seeing. Got it.

No thanks. I want my games created by people, not AI.

CobraKai53d ago

Exactly. If or when games start becoming more AI than people, im done with gaming. AI and companies like EA can suck donkey d***k.

just_looken53d ago

Though i agree remember this is no ps3/360 era were we got up to 3 games in one generation from on developer like gears/halo/bioware/sony/ms

The people today are pro esg/sweet baby for the most part AAA gaming is imploding right now.

We should be stepping back re evaluate everything as a whole this year xmen 97 written/directed by a woman that is nuts and its also being made by a group reshaping bodies to be less sexual like wtf. A dam famous cartoon from the 90's is being rebuilt with millions spent to be worse in everyway.

Gaming/movies/tv shows made today are worse than what we had 7years ago ai won't change this but that ai is also being made by these groups so either way we are screwed.
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Eonjay52d ago

Don't be of afraid of women. Sexy characters in games and movies still exist. Got my Stellar Blade on preorder!!! Everything all the time doesn't need to be sexual...that's stupid, childish and dull.

Chocoburger53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

EA doesn't want to lose their title of worst gaming company ever, always trying their best to remain the champs!
What's sad is that they have so much potential to be a decent publisher.

SSX Tricky / SSX 3
Def Jam Vendetta / Fight for New York
NBA Street
NFL Steet
Mirror's Edge
Bad Company
Burnout 3 / 4 / 5

Remember when EA used to be awesome? It's all over with now. Unpolished, if not out-right broken games these days. Endless monetization and gambling in their sports games, and let's not forget wasting hours of your life trying to unlock characters or equipment using "surprise boxes!"

EA - Continuing to evolve our business and teams

EA CEO Andrew Wilson writes: "In this time of change, we expect these decisions to impact approximately 5 percent of our workforce. I understand this will create uncertainty and be challenging for many who have worked with such dedication and passion and have made important contributions to our company. While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams. Our primary goal is to provide team members with opportunities to find new roles and paths to transition onto other projects. Where that’s not possible, we will support and work with each colleague with the utmost attention, care, and respect. Communicating these impacts has already begun and will be largely completed by early next quarter."

The greed and lack of transparency/oversight is disgusting.

You do realize around this time this happens all throughout many industries (not just the game industry), right? It has to do with taxes for these major companies, like tax subsidies for downsizing. You want to know a little secret? Around May or so you’ll see a spike in hiring…

It blows my mind that people are oblivious to corporate workings.

Andrew33660d ago

So over 25 huge companies cut jobs every year like this and it only got noticed this time?

CrimsonWing6960d ago (Edited 60d ago )

@Andrew336

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Google it up if you’re uninformed of how corporations work. Only gamers seem to live in a bubble and when they see things like crunch, acquisitions, and lay-offs they act like this is the only industry it happens to and how shocked they are about it.

Welcome to the real world, kid.

thorstein59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

EA CEO Wilson's total compensation was 20 million. Let's take away 19 million (I'm sure he can survive on 1 million.... somehow).

1 million is the salary of an in the chair developer @100,000 for 10 years.

He could earn 1 million a year.

And save the jobs of 15 in the chair devs for A DECADE (plus benefits) with ONE YEAR'S compensation.

Sonic188160d ago

Like I said earlier, this is happening all around the gaming industry.
