Halo 4 and Assassin's Creed III (Xbox 360) to only have Disc 1 at Redbox

Games are getting bigger each year. Many of them now have to span two DVDs, which means if you’re planning on renting either Halo 4 or the Xbox 360 version of Assassin’s Creed III from Redbox, there are a few snags you may have to consider.

wwm0nkey4207d ago

Which means no MP for people that rent Halo 4!

(Actually according to people MP can be installed via disc 2 or just downloaded for free via XBL)

wwm0nkey4207d ago

Hmmm I don't get the disagrees? The game is 2 discs and disc 2 is the MP install disc and there are 3 ways to use it.

1. while on disc 1 click on Infinity and open your tray to put in disc 2

2. Click on Infinity and click on Install disc 2

3. Click on Infinity and click on "Install from Xbox Live"

You roundroids are all the same.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4206d ago

So no mandatory install on the 360 version just to play the game. Nice.

GraveLord4207d ago

Ouch. PS3 version it is then.(for AC3)

Conzul4207d ago

I should hope so, given the bonus story content for PS3 editions.

Dat pc though :S

You really think this pro Sony guy really had a choice? LOL

On topic

I don't rent from Red Box. Have they done this with past games with multi dics or do they usually avoid games with more than one disc?

Is this article fanboy junk or is the anwser one of my questions above?

Nitrowolf24207d ago

@ Green

they did the same with Max Payne 3, so this is pretty standard Red Box stuff.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34207d ago

Actually, in my area at least, Redbox just didn't carry an Xbox 360 game if it had more than one disc. It just simply only offered the PS3 version. So in reality, I find the information of this article rather surprising. But I guess something is better than nothing.

Nitrowolf24207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

eh it's the same thing as the xbox 360, except instead of the extra disc it's an online pass.
I know relevation had one, but I never did play MP so idk the extent.

AC3 will most likely follow the same route

Awesome_Gamer4207d ago

Buying it for PS3, not because of this, i just don't have a 360 anymore, even if i had, i played all Assassin's Creeds on my PS3, won't be different this time.

Why would anyone want to rent from redbox for games? I've always found their $2 a night rate to be high for games that can take up 40 Hours Plus.

I mean I typically spend 4-7 hours a day gaming (if I do have that time)

Just seems like a high price for something that'll get you a much better deal at a local rental store. I guess for those without.

LightSamus4207d ago

Wow, that sounds really bad. Using LoveFilm in the UK, you can get 4 discs at a time for something like £15 a month with no return date in sight.

rpd1234207d ago

Well we have Gamefly which is like you described. You can choose how many games you want to receive at a time and it's like 15-20 dollars I thin. I don't use it but I hear it's pretty good. Redbox is typically for movies that you watch and return the next day. If you want to rent a game, then it should only be to try it out for a night, otherwise you get screwed.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34207d ago

Actually $2 a night isn't really bad, especially if you're the type of person that "flies" through a game in one setting instead of taking your time with it. I've rented at least one game from Redbox, just to see if I was going to like the game. The only other rental options for me is Blockbuster or Gamefly, which besides Blockbuster's 7 day rental for $8, is subscription based. I haven't tried Blockbuster's 7 day rental, so I don't know if you can switch out games within that week's time if I find a game unappealing or I finished before hand. Another rental route would be Gamestop, although it's not official. There way of doing it is if you buy a game used, you can return it for a full refund within a week's time, but that's only if you buy a game used. If you buy it new at Gamestop you can only switch a game for the same game or a game that cost's the same or less. That's one of the reason's people buy their games from Gamestop used instead of new and has Gamestop living like a "fat cat", lol

Kalowest4207d ago

$2 a night isn't really bad for me, since i play games 8-12hrs a day.

rpd1234207d ago

Shit, don't you have a job?

Kalowest4207d ago

Looking for a job( I filled out some online apps), and going back to school next semester. So I have alot of free time to platinum games :)

rpd1234207d ago

Ahh, I see. Best of luck with the job search. Lucky that you get to play a lot of games though.

Campy da Camper4207d ago

Agreed. I spend HOURS just running around games like this finding stuff, checking out the towns and stuff. Each AC installment easily stole 40+ hours from me.

Cam9774207d ago

AC games are a wonder to explore, especially AC2.

konnerbllb4207d ago

I like Redbox because it doesn't cost a lot to check out a game before you buy it. Granted they have only been putting up AAA titles this year that I would have bought anyway. Last year they had questionable games that I was able to try for a day before deciding whether to purchase or not.

Blackfrican4207d ago

gamestop does free 7 day rentals if you buy it used.

grahf4207d ago

If you are using it as your primary source for games, then you're doing it wrong. A $2 investment has swayed my decision on either spending $60 on a game I was on the fence about (Dark Souls), or it saved me $60 after almost falling for a Hyped game (Brink).

Don't compare it Gamefly or other subscription services.

Breadcrab4207d ago

What about extremely short games like the upcoming Medal of Honor: Warfighter? I would never dream of paying $60 for that (don't play multiplayer), but since it'll be available at Redbox, I can rent it for 1-2 days and only pay $4 at most. There; thanks to Redbox, I played a game that I otherwise would never have touched.

KMCROC4207d ago

Gamefly where you can rent before you buy & not deal with the $9.00 value given buy the retail store. lol

Ryasha4207d ago

I only use Redbox when I don't get the new release of some game I want from Gamefly.

Plus, $2 for a 16 hour (rough estimate of the time I actually have the game) trial to see if the game is worth an actual purchase is a great deal. Did it for Sleeping Dogs and Amazing Spider-Man.

I also use it for those games that I want to play a little of but know a GOTY-type release is going to come and am willing to wait on that before an actual purchase. Like what I did with Borderlands 2 and Resident Evil 6.

Besides, with all the codes Redbox sends me, my rentals are either free or half price majority of the time.

CalvinKlein4206d ago

yeah I sometimes rent from Blockbuster as we still have one left in my city. Their prices are always changing but now they have a month pass for 15$ where you can keep any 1 movie or game for a month and exchange it for other ones as many times as you want over that month. Only problem for me was I ended up keeping the witcher 2 for the whole month so I never really played a bunch of games with it like I could have.

Renting from Redbox is really to run through the single-player campaign. If either game has MP activation code, then you can't play the online MP if it's included.

My first thought was the safe rooms in the resident evil series. When you hear that enchanting music you know you’re safe.

I literally just came here to post this. That music in the Resi 1 safe rooms is playing in my head.

I was thinking TLOU work benches. Although I remember one time where it was a false security.

Perfect. 👌👌

I'd add the top of my highrise apartment in GTA Online. That calm, quiet peace, just knowing as soon as I step out that door I will be bombarded by 8 and 12 year olds calling each other n**** and f****, trolled by combat jets and rocket launchers.

The entire map of SotC is peaceful as hell. Used to just ride around exploring it.

mastershredder274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

Afterlife in Cyberpunk 2077 is a peaceful area? Erm, hands down and very hard to miss, Misty Olszewski's Esoterica is the absolute epitome of peaceful areas in that game.

The "last of us" deer location i found to be a welcoming respite. It was nice to not have someone trying to eat me.

Kingdom Hearts tend to present half peaceful areas and most of them are amazing.

Master Chief Became More Than A Machine In 343's Halo

In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.

In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.

This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.

The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.

Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.

BandarHub410d ago

A lot of people give the 343 version of Master Chief a lot of slack.
But Fundamentally he is still the same character, he just has a couple more dialogues. He has not changed in terms of attitude.
"Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty."
And that's what he has done at the end of the day, he did his duty. Watch his partner die, and was ready to destroy the weapon in Halo infinite....he is still the same soilder that everyone remembers

Halo Infintes one was a nice balance between both.

slate91410d ago

Chief and the halo franchise became a joke under 343

Sciurus_vulgaris410d ago

The 343i Master Chief has is based on the books. However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion.

Obscure_Observer410d ago

"However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion."

Which is awesome! I love how Master Chief become more John and less soldier.
