007 Legends Review | IGN

Tristan Ogilvie writes: Last year Eurocom delivered GoldenEye: Reloaded, an HD remake which was arguably the best James Bond game since well, the original GoldenEye 64. Unfortunately the developer hasn't been able to maintain that trajectory with 007 Legends; an abhorrent 'tribute' to the history of the British super spy that doesn't just take liberties - it takes the piss. At a time when early reports suggest the celluloid Bond is reaching a new high with Skyfall, it's a shame that his video game counterpart has reached his digital downfall. If you're really dying for a Call of Duty-style shooter experience, then sit tight as Black Ops II has likely got more money than God behind it and it's only a month away.

wow lol! How horrible this game could be? Got two 4s in less than 30 minutes.

Burning_Finger4212d ago

I think Daniel Craig is the worst Bond ever.

KING854212d ago

IMO Daniel Craig is one if not the best Bonds to play the role (yes I have seen Sean Connery and others). I guess to each his own.

NaViTo4212d ago

Sorry man, but this honor goes to George Lazenby! LoL

PirateThom4212d ago

I like Lazenby.

I don't like Roger Moore. Never have, never will.

guitarded774212d ago

@ PirateThom

Roger Moore is my favorite... he had a cheezy swagger. I hated Brosnan. Anyway, the game looks like there was no love put into the development of it. It looks like PS2 visuals. Stupid thing is, the Bond license could be a huge $$$ franchise if they would make a great bond game. Too bad they waste it on making a quick buck.

Pozzle4211d ago

I liked Brosnan, but I thought he easily had the worst Bond movies (not counting Goldeneye). I'd gladly watch Moonraker over any post-Goldeneye Brosnan movies.

BongSmack4212d ago

Craig and Connery are my favorite Bonds. Though Roger Moore's movies are my favorites.

Pozzle4211d ago (Edited 4211d ago )

As a woman, my main problem with Daniel Craig is that I don't find him very charming or suave. Which isn't the actor's fault (he seems really nice in interviews), so maybe he was told to be more gritty like a 'proper' action hero. But his charm and wit is something I always found so likeable about James Bond as a character. I wouldn't call Craig the worst Bond (not by a long shot) but he really does nothing for me.

Ouch, 4.5! basically it CoD: James Bond edition. Time to hit up Youtube since ign's useless video player doesn't load.

wastedcells4212d ago

To bad they don't put more effort into 007 games. The license needs to go to a company that will make something special...

Angerfist4212d ago

Yes, Bloodstone was good but the Devs are history :( now its just a cheap fps series without racing or anything really.

Cam9774212d ago

Ouch, I guess I won't buy this then.

Hope they make a comeback next gen

PrimeVinister1447d ago

There were a few non-film ones back on PS2/GC that were really good.
I can imagine the cinematic elements of those games would look even better now.

DaReapa1446d ago

Everything or Nothing is my second best Bond game behind Goldeneye 64, followed by Nightfire.

fulldeepdive1446d ago

we have a lot of great video games and we have a lot coming out this year...lame

Godmars2901446d ago

What's happened to the James Bond franchise in general?

It, much like Star Trek, Star Wars, has had too much of the "real world" shoved down their throats. That plus people with agendas hijacking them thinking they can use brand value to deliver "transformative" messaging while lacking the awareness, the creative talent, needed to make them entertaining at even a base level.

Also, getting back on subject, doesn't help that movie studios don't see gaming studios as equals who need as much if not more time to do their jobs right.

Tross1446d ago (Edited 1446d ago )

Yeah, come to think of it. Maybe their absence can be attributed to the falling popularity of the videogame adaptation or even the licensed franchise tie-in, as well as the gaming landscape being quite different now than it was. The Bond titles filled a niche of FPS-action titles, the likes of which are not exactly uncommon nowadays. That said, the Bond games were a fun take on the genre that I'd like to see return one day.

DaReapa1446d ago

Activision's tenure with the license attributed to the lack of quality games.

roadkillers1446d ago

That's true. You couldn't get past the PS2 days without a movie tie in. Now, I can't think of the last game tie in.. even Star Wars was different

You'd think that a developer would release a 007 game more akin to a stealth franchise like Hitman by now to play up on Bond's espionage

Sciurus_vulgaris2614d ago

I can remember more than a decade ago, the Goldeneye-esque shooters were fairly popular. Unfornately, Goldeneye-esque shouters seemed to die out after 2005, with the polarizing PDZ having a good online population for a few years. Conversely, the extremely content rich and well designed Timesplitters: Future Perfect underperformed in sales. As for bonds games, I haven't played one since 007 Nightfire (a personal favourite). I personally, think if 007 games (and Pefect Dark games) were to return, the titles should take influence from Deus Ex. With levels designed to allow the players to either play stealthy, uses gadgets or just shoot up the place.

5 Games that were obviously going to fail

There are many reasons why a highly anticipated game will fail such as toxic work environment or outdated game engine. Then there are the moments when it was obvious the game was going to be a failure, and yet the development team was oblivious to the red flags. This is a look at five games that were obviously going to fail but the development team ignored the red flags.

Some times it should be obvious when a game is going to be an epic failure.

isarai3092d ago

I feel like Battleborne is the next game on this list. Nothing about it looks bad per say, but it's really not standing out, and no one really seems to care about it (including me) it's just like that pretty normal kid that sits at the edge of class no one really pays much attention to.

Masterchief_thegoat3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

resident evil 6 was already doom, when i was playing it with the ps3 controller. qte ,camera story.killing wesker was dumb mistake to replace him with a boring character. re6 was a big mess

deadpools_n643092d ago
