Gameworld Network: Jack Keane Preview

Gameworld Network writes:

"If you're a PC gamer living in the United States, chances are you've never heard of Jack Keane or his daring exploits. Since late 2007, lucky folk on the other side of the pond have been whooping it up adventure style with the latest release from 10tacle Studios.

In it, you play the titular hero in colonial England, who is unwittingly tasked to shuttle a British agent to the mysterious Tooth Island to investigate the questionable botanical experiments of one Doctor T. Along the way you'll encounter a cast of wacky characters, use your noggin to solve puzzles, and marvel at the abundance of witty dialogue thrown your way. In short, if you're a fan of classics like Grim Fandango or the Monkey Island series, you'll feel right at home in Captain Jack's pantaloons."

IGN reviews Jack Keane

Jack Keane is a wonderful adventure experience that should bring back fond memories of old school adventure games. The artwork and design is great for this type of game and the music blended in well to keep the action going. A majority of the puzzles may seem too easy at first, but the difficulty does ramp up later in the game to provide a decent challenge for puzzle solvers. Voice acting can be a little grating at times and the jokes could have been better, but this light-hearted adventure can be fun for those who aren't interested in a serious mystery.

Hooked Gamers: Jack Keane and the Dokktor's Island Review

Hooked Gamers writes: "Once upon a time, this game was going to be entitled Jack Keane and the Dokktor's Island. That was back in 2005 and shortly after developer Deck 13 had just released a well-received game entitled Ankh. Along the way, besides changing publishers a couple of times, the title got shortened. Whatever the reason(s), after about three years of ballyhoo, it looks like the game is -finally- going to make its debut.

On the surface, the game looks like it taps in to most of the fun aspects that were to be found in Monkey Island. Does mentioning that game give you a clear idea of what to expect? The image that conjures up for me includes 'cartoonish' artwork (check), pervasive tongue-in-cheek humor (check), point-and-click interface (check), cursor rollovers that indicate how on-screen objects are to be used (check), pick-your-choice-of-clever-lines dialogue trees (check). Yeah, the game has all that, so I guess my work is done here! What's that? You want details? Oh, alright then…"
