Dishonored Slices Playstation 3 Hard-Drive

TGH Writes: "Those of you looking forward to Dishonored are in the same boat with myself. The game looks amazing and simply awesome. However, make your decision wise with a lot of high profile HDD hogging games already released and even more to come, Dishonored looks to take up some space on your Playstation 3."

Can you put a TB in a PS3?

Emilio_Estevez4225d ago (Edited 4225d ago )

Yes, just don't go over 5400rpm (you can, but it will kill your PS3)

ftwrthtx4225d ago

I have a 7500rpm 500GB. The 7500 RPM TB's are too much speed wise?

Emilio_Estevez4224d ago

It will work fine, but it overworks the console. It's not meant to have a 7500rpm drive in it, but there are some that claim it's fine. I personally wouldn't test if for a minimal read/write gain.

Ace_Man_64224d ago

Yes, because I have one :)

ChronoJoe4224d ago

Emilio is wrong. Some people have experienced more heating issues with 7200rpm drives. It does generate more heat but won't go out of acceptable ranges unless your PS3 is poorly ventilated. This is even less of an issue with the slims.

With that said you won't see much benefit with a 7200rpm drive anyway.

hongthay4224d ago

I have a 1tb hard drive in mine and it works fine. It is 7200rpm, and I have had no problems for about 18 months now. But, I don't spend as much time gaming as I used to, because I just don't have the time, regretfully.

mewhy324224d ago (Edited 4224d ago )

Wow. A 5 gig install? That's just unacceptable. Sony should release a blu ray drive firmware update or something to help with seek times and transfer rates. The idea that it's "ok" to have to spend even more money on an upgraded hdd because so many games require a mandatory install is not ok. I don't understand how so many people just blow this off and say something like, "Well I'll just spend $50.00 on a bigger hdd for my playstation eventhough I already spent 299.99. That's craziness. I mean really? You don't think there's something wrong with that? Really? How is it that Microsoft can release consoles that don't even have an hdd and NO games EVER require a mandatory install and Sony can't pull off the same thing? That's NOT ok by any reasoning. I'm getting tired of these massive multigig installs on my ps3. Give me the option to install it like on xbox but don't require it!! Do something about this Sony. Patch the firmware, update the driver, improve file cache, do something.

@Mewhy32
"A 5 gig install? That's just unacceptable"

Actually, it's not all that out-of-the-ordinary or outrageous. Have you not played console games this gen?

lashes2ashes4225d ago

How many people still have 20 or 60 gig ps3 anyway. I have worked in a Gamestore the last five years and I have seen one 20 gig system in my life. At first I was like why does that ps3 not have the chrome trim on it them I remembered what it was lol

Yi-Long4224d ago (Edited 4224d ago )

.... and sadly, it's FULL. Too many downloaded games, along with installed games.

I really should upgrade the HDD with a new one, but it seems a bit of a hassle.

bakagaijin784224d ago

Agreed. I bought a 120gig system after my 60gig filled up and now that 120gig system is full.

In the meantime I've just been deleting installs from older games I haven't played in a while to make room. Not the save files though. This way I can always re-install them if I want later.

This is why I prefer physical copies of games instead of digital.

frelyler4224d ago

If you consider taking a screw driver and loosening about 6 screws a hassle I really don't know what to tell you. What do you do when you have to turn a door know or switch on a light in a room?

MikeMyers4224d ago

I have a 250gb original slim model. Lots of room. Some PC games are well over 10gb, not a big deal any longer. Hard drive prices are starting to come down again.

REDGUM4224d ago

Yi-Long.
If your really concerned (and seriously, frelyler is right, it's very simple to do). You can trade with your local Games dealer for a larger one.
I upgraded my 120GB for a 500GB with 1 years warranty! Well worth it mate. It cost $170 AUS to swap over and the old PS3 had YLOD which they (EB GAMES-GAME STOP) did'nt mind either.
I believe though they wont do the trade with the FAT PS3's though (40,60 & 80GB).

Yi-Long4224d ago

.... Here in Holland you can't trade your PS3 for a newer version. Also, I have a PHAT, and considering the problems they're known to have with that YLOD thing, I much rather just wait it out instead of now investing in a new HDD, considering it might 'die' pretty soon.

Also, I'll be moving to Hong Kong in 2 months time, where I'll be buying a new PS3 (hopefully the candy-blue 320GB slim, or else a white 500GB Ultra Slim), and hopefully when I'm there I can just log into my EU account and re-download all my old content.

@Frelyler: Apart from the arguments I stated aboth why it would be a bit of a hassle, it's also the whole 'finding a great quality internal HDD', transferring the license, then redownloading all my old stuff which takes ages on a EU PSN connection, etc etc.

I really can't be bothered with that right now, so yeah, it seems like a bit of a hassle.

If I wasn't moving, I'd probably just buy a completely new PS3 anyway.

Arcanine4224d ago

very true.. i remember i bought an external hard drive but i did not really understand why only a few games worked, but my ps3 got mess up so when sony sent me a new one i decided to upgrade.

hongthay4224d ago

Your downloads stay in your list under account management. You can re-download everything. The only problem you may have is with Singstar songs because they are locked to a console.

You should check for one of the special edition ps3s. They have FFXIII, One Piece, Darksiders, and many other special editions. They look fantastic.

Source: myself, I have a US account and lived in both Thailand and China. Here in Thailand, I redownloaded all my stuff last year when I installed a bigger hard drive.

ClimateKaren4224d ago

A couple of others have already said it, but I think it needs to be reinforced if you still believe that changing the HDD is a hassle at this point.

It's really simple, man. 1 screw to get the tray out, 4 screws in the tray. Put the new HDD where the old one was, put the screws back, and you've got yourself a brand new HDD. I snagged a 500G a long time ago for pretty cheap (maybe $75) and never looked back.

Also, you can get an enclosure for your old PS3 HDD when you're done, and use it as an external.

FunAndGun4224d ago

I still have a working 20GB launch PS3, but it has a 320GB HD now...maybe it will be a rare collectible one day! lol

johnsonbat4224d ago

I still have my 60gb and I'm forever juggling installs and downloads to fit stuff. Not easy with a game library close to 100.

JustInTlME4224d ago

I have the original BEAST PS3 60 GB, and it works like a charm. All the new slim ones just look cheap.

I have an 80gb but won't be buying this tripe. Why? 1 word: Bethesda.

JimmyHACK4224d ago

Bethesda didn't make this game, they are only publishing it.

KMCROC4224d ago

ZeniMax Media Inc owns Arkane Studios, who also happens to own Bethesda Game Studios. So in short their making it & publishing it.

Ducky4224d ago (Edited 4224d ago )

^ You're kinda making it sound like Arkane owns Bethesda Game Studios, which isn't true.

There are two 'Bethesdas'.
One is Bethesda Softworks, which publishes games.
The other is Bethesda Game Studios, which actually develop/make games.
Arkane Studios are a different developer.
All three are owned by ZeniMax.

Skyrim was made by Bethesda Game Studios, and published by Bethesda Softworks.
Dishonored is made by Arkane Studios, and being published by Bethesda Softworks.

The fact that Skyrim had issues doesn't necessarily mean Dishonored will too.

JustInTlME4224d ago

Do people not understand what published means?

ipe4224d ago

Who cares, its not like ps3 comes with 8 or 30gbs.

jagstatboy4224d ago

I have budgeted to spend money on one game this month. I already have Borderlands 2 and have played the heck out of it. I am down to buying Dishonored or Darksiders 2. Which should I get?

KMCROC4224d ago (Edited 4224d ago )

if you only have a PS3, i say get Darksiders 2 just in case this game turns out like sky-rim. but if you own both consoles then i say you will have a tough choice to make.

DivineAssault 4224d ago

id say wait on darksiders.. A price drop may be coming soon & or black friday may have it dirt cheap.. This game will remain $60 for a few months so get the best bang for your buck w the newest of the 2..

Yui_Suzumiya4224d ago

Dishonored, all the way. If you like BioShock, Thief, Deus Ex or Half-Life then Dishonored is the way to go!

The Magic of 'Dishonored’s' Blink

It’s a shame, really, that so few games have “borrowed” Dishonored’s Blink – in the right hands, such a power could be game-changing.

It felt kinda cheap to me… both in terms as a tactic, and game design

Abnor_Mal435d ago (Edited 435d ago )

There was a small game called Aragami that “borrowed” the blink, that was a good game.

Unfortunately I heard the sequel wasn’t good so I stayed away from trying it out.

sairenfox2099433d ago

The sequel changed some of the mechanics from the first game but it was still a very polished and enjoyable experience. You should definitely give it a shot sometime. The game's currently on sale on Steam

Abnor_Mal433d ago

Okay thanks for the heads up, will look out for it being on sale one day.

I really did like the first and played it back to back as soon as I finished the first play through.
