The PlayStation 2 Still Has One New Game Left To Offer…

Kotaku - The PlayStation 2 has come a long way. Since its initial release in Japan on March 4th back in the year 2000 (October 26th for the west), the successor to the original PlayStation console reigned for years as THE home console to have and continues to sell to this day. But while the console may sell, what about new software?

I miss the old times where there werent a million dlc packs to get a complete game and games still had unlockable costumes instead of dlc one's.

yeah people probably think im poor when i rifle through the old ps2 game buckets. sometimes i'll find a rare one like dark cloud 2, ico or shadow of the colossus (dont know about US, but PAL versions of those and lots of others are way rare)

Correct if wrong, but do you not only need a fat PS2 to play FF11 but a modem - A MODEM! - attachment and a HDD which only fit on a fat PS2 - hence why you can only play it on a fat PS2!

AND OF COURSE ITS SQUARE WHO'S DOING THIS!!!

and what's worse?? the hdd and ffXI ps2 pal never came out in EU :/

Just plug in that Ethernet cable and play... except for FFXI. That's the only game on PS2 that requires an HDD.
But can every PS2 play online? Yes. Just not FFXI without an HDD unfortunately.

I have a fat PS2 with the Network modem! :D Though I don't have the 40GB paperweight.

(it was an ATV offroad fury 2 bundle, god was that time awesome, oct.2003.

The console that will forever be untouchable in terms of software. This system has over 11,000 games in its library which is unheard of.

Some of the greatest series ever to be created began on this beast & i am proud to still own it. Gaming on this system brought so many memories of what gaming should be like.

I ended up softmodding my fat PS2. Consider that most of the developers of the games I've downloaded would never get a dime from me even if I wanted unless they were to put up their games on retail again. Furthermore, some games like Devil Summoner 2 are up in the $50s used online.
With that said, I've played the heck out of it (put to download +70 games [that I had researched a night before], best console library EVER).

The PS2 is unbelivable, I have roughly 100 games for it and I buy more and more cause they are relitivily cheap.

My friends and I still play the ps2 for split screen as it is so much fun. I think any company can't deny the sheer monopoly Sony has on the home console market in the early 00's

I am primarily a 360 fan this gen, but I truly do miss the PS2. It was arguably the best system in history, all things considered. The amount of good to great games on that system was unreal. :(

Yeah...an expansion to a game not compatible with the current PS2 models, when the money is better off invested in FFvXIII for the PS3, you know, that one system that has already succeeded the PS2 6 years ago. Oh and what about FFXIV? Oh, that is right, that game bombed. Seriously, it baffles me how stupid Square has been for the past 10 years with their business decisions. What the hell is going on with that company?
