I didn't like it. This may sound stupid but there was too much to do that mattered a lot. Like eating. One of the biggest annoyances in that game. I do not want to virtually eat in a game. It is a bit like if GTA made you do the speed limit or drive safely and get in traffic jams otherwise the police will arrest you. I did love the gang warfare and things like that but constantly having to eat and work out to make the game playable ruined that game for me

I agree, San Andreas was huge and had so much you could do. Hopefully the next GTA is more like it, although I did enjoy GTA4 a lot as well.

I can't choose between San Andreas and Vice City. Combine all the features from those games and make sure it has plenty of fun potential and you have a great game.

Buying properties which opens new missions from Vice city was great and San Andreas got the gangster theme right as well as customising your character to an extent, robbing houses at night, customised your car and large air liners <3 Good old days.

Honestly i think the only reason people say Vice City was the best was because of nostalgia from the soundtrack and Scarface inspired story, but as a game it was the worst in the series IMO, the map itself was extremely small and undetailed, and the blur was horrid. In terms of content and mechanics GTA SA was easily the best, hell i still play GTA SA to this day and i still find new things within the game.

Although I hated the CJ character, San Andreas was the best. Had better gameplay and was technically superior. I just remember flying a Harrier II around the HUGE city and never bumping into any loading. The car customization was amazing. They also nailed that era perfectly....

It also featured Samuel L Jackson as officer Tenpenny..

at least your honest enough to admit it was the black character that turned you off while still acknowledging that SA had so much more than the others.

it's IMHO that if CJ had been a different race SA would undoubtly be clamoured as the best gta by ALL gta fans.

Dude...I'm Black and didn't like CJ because I thought he lacked the charm of Tommy Versetti and he was too much like the silent Claude Speed....whom I also disliked. Perhaps it's the fact that Ray Liotta voice him and there was this good fellas vibe going on or whatever. I just did not feel like CJ was good enough to carry a whole GTA game after spending so much time with the much better Tommy V character.

His color had noting to do with it. I'm not even sure how you came to the conclusion that I disliked CJ because he's Black based one the one sentence I wrote, which was "Although I hated the CJ character..." .

As bad as I thought CJ was, he's still better than the dude from GTA4.

I still don't understand all the hate for GTA IV. Sure, It wasn't as good as it could of been, But this is one game in the series I find myself going back to time and time again. With Vice City and San Andreas I went back too in order to just fool around. (Which i find is the biggest reason people don't like GTA IV) but for IV, I went back to because of just how realistic of a world they created. The driving, The people, The graphics, The city. It was so alive.. So wonderfull, And I can't exactly put my finger on it. Like this articles writer I too was around 13 when Vice City came out. And VC and San Andreas were wonderful games. But I am all for the series's new Mature Approach. It feels like the series grew up with me. Sure, I still have fond memories of the old GTA games and still replay them from time to time, But I am all for the new, gritty, Realistic, Living, Breathing GTA that emerged from them. And for reasons I still have a hard time putting my finger on exactly, GTA IV is my favorite GTA. And I can't wait to see what they do with V.

you answered your own question. most gamers play games to have fun, not to play in a world that they already live in. can a mature person not still have fun?

bottom line is there is a real world right outside everyones door, most of us don't feel the need to play in one while gaming.

people game for all kinds of reasons, but playing a game that imitates the real world with realistic conditions is just redundant and a waste of time seeing as you can walk outside your door and have "real driving, real people and real cities" all around you. all very much alive.

unless of course your real life sucks and you only enjoy realistic games that allows you to be the person you are not in real life.

GTA IV didn't have the heart that San Andreas, GTA 3 and Vice City had. I would actually agree that Vice City was the best...when that game came out- everyone was all over it and in-love with it. I don't know one person that hated Vice City.

It was epic. San Andreas couldn't even top it.
