Guild Wars 2 to Surpass World of Warcraft?

Currently with over 400,000 active players and over 2 Million sold copies Guild Wars 2 is still expanding and attracting more players every day. It is predicted that in a year it might surpass World of Warcraft (WoW) as it has a Pay once play forever policy. It has also been reported that ever since Guild Wars 2 was released the number of World of Warcraft Active players has reduced significantly, and if the new DLC "Mists of Pandaria" can't live up to the players expectation then there is a huge chance that Guild Wars 2 can surpass World of Warcraft - unless Blizzard acts quickly and take action against it. For now it has given the MMO industry a valuable lesson and that is the fact the Subscription based playing is no longer a good option to play games.

Nope, it won't, but that's not a bad thing. Guild Wars was actually designed to COMPLIMENT WoW, not destroy it. In other words, it was designed for WoW fans to play it and enjoy it but to play WoW, too.

GW was made by former Blizzard employees who worked on WoW and they were huge WoW fans. They actively played WoW even when designing GW. Go back and watch/read some interviews with the guys. It's pretty revealing.

I agree, however I think the articles focus is the whole idea of "Subscription" based playing going out of date.

Personally I think they should remove the idea of monthly pay and replace it with in-game items you buy with real money, just like how diablo 3 works.

Guild Wars 2 is aimed at an entirely different Gamer just like Tera Online is from regular WoW Gamers!

I was not into Fantasy MMORPG's until Tera came out and now I enjoy Tera Online and Guild Wars 2.

Wow and GW2 have similarities but are totally different especially to someone like me who is a FPS junkie.

WoW/SWtor = not my cup of tea

Tera Online / Guild Wars 2 = have just enough action to make my FPS fingers happy.

I think a game like WoW, Eve Online, and a few others can still charge a monthly Sub and be successful at it cause they provide a unique experience and PLENTY of GREAT Content.

You can't just make a game and slap a Monthly Sub on it and be successful (Cough SW:tor Cough) now a days unless you really create something rare, special, and full of great content.

Reminds me, how about The Secret World? I believe that it should be single charged as well.

I say if they charge a higher initial price like $99.99 it would be more efficient. For games like SW:Kotr and TSW it just doesnt seem worth 15 permonth. heck! SW:KoTR could have been better off as a single player!

Plunderstorm Is The World Of Warcraft Battle Royale We’ve Been Waiting For

HG writes: "Blizzard is usually pretty bad at keeping secrets, but the company somehow managed to keep this one under wraps until now. Plunderstorm is a special limited-time event that’s basically World of Warcraft’s take on the Battle Royale genre."
