This is nothing like ME3 and ME3 is not the biggest release of the year either. That's Diablo 3. Heck, even MW3 is a bigger seller than ME3 this year. But, nothing like ME3. You're comparing a TPS RPG with a FPS Diablo-esque.

Well the thing is, just by looking at bmw69 post he is not comparing the type of game that ME3 is compared to Borderlands 2. It looks like he wants the sales numbers and how they compare. A big budget compared to another big budget release.

Diablo 3 might have been one of the most anticipated releases of the year but it turned out to be quite a disappointment unfortunately.

Mass Effect is a TPS in a branched-out yet closed environment in space. It's pretty linear in structure.

Borderlands is an open world post apocalyptic FPSRPG based around co-op and looting similar to classic asymmetrical RPGs. Most similar to Rage in environment, but more about the looting and RPG side is focused on custom character over guns. You are always collecting and always getting the bigger and better weapons. Also Borderlands has a really unique artstyle and it's online is much better than most co-op game modes around. Just forget ME3 when you play this, it's a totally different game bro.

i'm betting those pre-orders aren't even included in the numbers. it's probably closer to 2 mil. just about everyone i game with on pc (which is a lot) has that pre-loaded on steam.

OT, I very happy with how everything is seeming to be going gearbox's way, with this one. In the modern climate of gaming, one little thing can completely derail a game and riddle it with bad public perception.

In the original Borderlands there was no loot system, so if a super item dropped and you play with unknown players you can bet that in 3 of 5 times one of them will take the item even if it aint a main weapon they use.

This was something many were complaining about back then, now B2 is here and they have done nothing and all they say is that one should play with people you trust...

And that...is pissing me off. It wouldn't be that hard to make a looting system like in Diablo 3 or something where everything that drops is your personalized loot.

Man I hate loot system that only drops items for one person, I find collaborating with people satisfying also seeing the loot with your friends is awesome. All I can say is that get better friends.

I get what ur saying, but i think they did that on purpose. At least with the weapons you pick up.
Because lets be honest, your inventory would clog up if you get all the stuff your 3 co-op friends pick up.

But there actually was a sort of a 'loot system' with the original borderlands with the weapons (and claptrap rewards) you get from completing missions, every player gets the reward. Not just the one that turns in the mission
Same goes for money, all players get money if 1 picks it up.

Even though you might not instantly get the super weapons your co-op partner picked up, you can easily trade stuff by duping the weapons by saving the game, then drop the guns and leave without saving (getting kicked, going to dashboard, Alt-F4 etc.

Imo this was something that made the game even more fun, since you trade ur good stuff with friends and new people for their good stuff like stuff you never found or modded guns :D

But idk, judging by the character gameplays i watched, its gonna be fun and a different experience to play as every class.
You can even share your badass points between all your characters, so why not play as all 4 :)

This is great. It wasn't too long ago that Take-Two was having some serious financial problems along with rumored buyouts. Now look at them, they have new blockbuster franchises like Red Dead, Borderlands, and Bioshock along with their longtime blockbusters. If they keep the good games coming, we'll keep on buying.
