Microsoft signs deal with tree software firm

Microsoft Game Studios have signed a deal with the creators of SpeedTree RT foliage software that will be appearing in a number of Windows and 360 games yet to be announced. The software delivers highly realistic trees and plants, with adjustable wind effects as seen in Project Gotham Racing.

anybody familiar with this "tree" software? or any games that uses such?

Some of the best Jungle/Tree animation of seen have been in Crysis and Uncharted.

Click on the side. there's some company including sony that used Speedtree. Resistance used it too. ;o

Square-enix will be using it as well for The Last Remnant

consider it the "Havok of foliage middleware solutions", and its used in alot of sony games too smart guy. do i need to teach you how to read?

Good to see that Microsoft took notice of the power of this software, namely its ability to create LOD models very quickly.

OMG! Are you serious???? Foliage simulator is going to be GOTY 2008....

Nintendo had the first official wireless controller, i.e. the Wavebird for Gamecube. The first network play on a console (that I remember) was back on the Sega Dreamcast. Microsoft did provide the first Hard Drive as Standard feature though; Sony's PS2 had a hard drive bay, but didn't include it with the console unfortunantely.

Dreamcast was close but I had internet available for my Saturn system. XBox did not have the first internet connection on console but it did have the first useable cross console online service. Saturn and Dreamcast were little more then access portals to the internet.

Wavebird was not the first wireless product that came to market. 2600 wireless controller was available prior to it and used some of it's technology to create the Wavebird (it used RF signal)

But XBox 360 was the first to offer wireless controller with a mic. And most companies do gather bits and pieces of each others best qualities and try to claim them for their own use. Which Sony is doing a handy job of immitation of the Live service that MS offers.

That will be a nice addition to any game IMO. I mean I cant wait to play games like crysis(I am not a pc gamer....unless you consider Starcraft in which case I am pro! lol on EVOLVES) But that would be an awesome addition, heck it would have made Turok at least decent to play and it would give the Cry engine a run for it's money.
