Far Cry 3 Sets the Benchmark for Open World FPS Genre (Interview) - PAX Prime 2012

"Ubisoft's Far Cry franchise is known for its epic scale and role-playing elements that delivers an open world first-person shooter unlike any other. It's been four years since the release of Far Cry 2, and the long wait for the sequel is justified greatly when examining the massive amount of content and gameplay experiences integrated within Far Cry 3."

I'll see how this one goes. I hope the game controls better than FC2 did.

iamgoatman4269d ago

Aiming with a controller in FC2 was horrendous. The acceleration has to be the worst I've seen in a game, couple that with large amounts of input lag and you had 2 options, try to move the cross-hair a small amount and get nothing, or a bit more and end up nearly spinning in circles.

Dovahkiin4269d ago

Didn't feel great on PC either.

"Far Cry 3 Sets the Benchmark for Open World FPS Genre"

lol....that was and still is S.T.A.L.K.E.R., there is not in existance another fps better than the series, open world or otherwise, we'll see if this game is anything close....I'm doubtful

the 3 stalker games are the best open world fps's followed by arma 2, followed by crysis warhead, far cry 1, crysis 1, halo 1 and 2 then boiling point, then maybe far cry 2, maybe......

we'll see where far cry 3 fits in, i'm willing to bet it won't have shit on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

mynameisEvil4269d ago

HOLY CRAP, you mentioned Boiling Point. Haha, wow. To be honest, the FPS elements in that game were decent, but nothing great. Still, it was basically a nice mix of Far Cry and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky. Voice acting blew, though.

Anyway, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as a series is right up there with HL and BioShock for me. Though, hold on, you didn't even list BioShock or Half-Life. How'd you miss those? 0_o

taquito4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

well, i love those, but they arent open world really, excellent shooters though, i mentioned halo series because the first 2 were somewhat open in spots

bioshock is corridor shooter for sure, but freaking awesome.

mynameisEvil4269d ago

It is a corridor shooter, but it's a corridor shooter in the DOOM sense. You can always go about the level and explore.

Oh, and have you ever played Boiling Point's sequel, Xenus 2 (which is a crap name to give the sequel to a game that wasn't named Xenus in the end, anyway)?

Since your bubbles are limited taken, I suggest you go to the good ol' PM.

Grimhammer004269d ago

I'd like to know why farcry 3 was delayed from its sept 4th release to dec 4th?

Im feeling worried since farcry 2 was kinda crap...except for the open world in jungle feel.

FarCryLover1824269d ago

Ubisoft are delaying games like always. I don't think it will release in December. I'm thinking mid spring.

Knushwood Butt4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

Me too.

Lots of flaws, but extremely atmospheric and a lot of fun.

Some of the travel got tiring but I usually found slaying the re-spawning morons at checkpoints quite amusing.

Also extremely memorable is sniping fools on boats and watching the hilarious death animation as they kind of jump up pogo-stick style and the land in the water.

Ubisoft to Focus on "Return to Leadership" in Open World Genre, Expand Live Service Experiences

Ubisoft says they are focusing on two "core verticals," and that's to return as a leader in the open world genre, and live service games.

enkiduxiv3d ago

Calling Ubisoft a leader in open world gaming at any point in time would be like calling Dollar General a leader in retail.

excaliburps2d ago

Well, to be fair, they did pump out good open world games before. It was used as a template so much that people now know what it means when you say it's like an Ubi open world collectahon.

shinoff21832d ago

What though? I can't think of one game they had where I liked anything about it. Atleast since the ps3/360 Gen

Kornholic2d ago

If they have never been the leader in open world gaming, then explain me this: why does almost every open world game follow the same tired old Ubisoft open world formula?

Follow the Leader.

Aphrodia2d ago

YO dont' talk bad about the General. There'll be problems...

You were never the leader bro 🤣

shinoff21833d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I don't think they were ever the leader tbh. I've never really cared for any of their open world games. I do wanna try watch dogs 2 because it looks like it's set in San Fran. Looked interesting

Ubisoft's Recent Antics Have Me Fearful For The Sands of Time Remake

Hanzala from eXputer: "With Ubisoft's practices becoming increasingly anti-consumer lately, the destruction of The Sands of Time Remake looks almost inevitable."

thorstein31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Hey Ubi, here's a gun, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

*Ubi takes gun, aims at foot, empties clip*

Chocoburger31d ago

At this point, only dummies have any hope left for Ubi-junk games.
