Why PES 2013's early release date could be a yellow card for FIFA

VideoGamer.com Dave Scammell writes: "The last time Pro Evolution Soccer hit shelves before FIFA, in 2003, it was arguably the most popular football game on the market. It was easily the most critically acclaimed, at least, with Pro Evolution Soccer 3 being most football fans' game of choice over EA Sports' clumsy counterpart FIFA 04.

Since then, of course, EA Sports has worked tirelessly to lead FIFA into the footballing limelight. These days, FIFA isn't just one of the hottest properties in sports, but the games industry as a whole. You only need to look at the sales figures of last year's game for evidence of that: FIFA 12 generated over $186m at retail within its first week of release, and $39m via DLC alone over the course of the Christmas period, and this year's game seems well-positioned to shatter those records. The PR machine even manages to build hype over the release of the game's packshot, for goodness sake.

This year, though, Konami is making strides to muscle in on FIFA's turf. PES 2013 releases on September 21, one week before FIFA 13's launch on September 28."

I can't see it making much difference... and this coming from a Pro Evo fanboy of the PS2 era.

Fasttrack764253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

This won't make any difference, konami you should have had it ready for the 14th,then I would of brought it for my football fix, but not on the 21st becoz I have ea early release for the 24th.plus why bring it out when borderlands 2 and f1 2012 r out. 14 th it should have been...

I'm loving the new Pro Evo demo. Tactical Defending was a terrible addition to FIFA in my opinion. Can see be buying Pro Evo over FIFA for the first time in years. The demo plays the same as Pro Evo as old and then some.

FIFA has to be a huge step up this year because that second PES demo was awesome.

I think what might make a dent, if anything would, was not one...but two demos that show off the progress that the devs have made with refining the game. I haven't purchased PES in over 3 years. However, so far I am completely sold. FIFA will have to blow me away if and when the demo is released.

Not all outdated football games are worthless

Games Asylum: "Outdated football games are a common sight when scouring jumble sales, car boots and charity shops for bargain price video games. Entire shelves filled with decade-old FIFA and PES games spread across a dozen formats. Often they end up in bargain bins, sitting alongside unwanted celebrity fitness DVDs and seemingly random TV show box sets. But here’s the thing. Not all football games gathering dust in the likes of Oxfam are in fact worthless."

Now Sonic Boom & Bayonetta 2 are being outsold by FIFA 13 Wii U

Just who is buying FIFA 13 on Wii U? We may never know, but there are more people buying that than there are Bayonetta 2 and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.

Sonic Boom? welp, sucks to suck.
But, Bayonetta is a real shame

wonderfulmonkeyman3437d ago

Sonic Boom is riding off the popularity of the TV show; it's a bad game.

And as for FIFA?
Well, guess that goes to show that there's a lot of older gamers on Wii U that wanted FIFA, then; sports games generally do out-sell action games, and Platinum isn't known for large sales in the first place.

I'm not worried for Bayonetta. It'll hit that 1M mark by the middle of next year, surely, at its current pace.

are seriously trying to downplay Bayonetta 2 with sales
