A Word On Devil May Cry And The Reboot

"The Devil May Cry universe is one that has a special place in gaming today. When it first arrived on the scene back in December 2001, I don’t think anyone really new what was coming our way. In my opinion Devil May Cry is my hack and slash adventure game of choice. Sure there are others like it, but none have that certain, je ne sais quoi. Was it the controls? No, the jumping was hellishly bad. Was it the characters? No, they were awesome and cheesy."

sir go to hell, WE THE FANS DEMAND THE ORIGINAL DEVIL MAY CRY WITH THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY ONE DANTE!!!!

oNIXo4253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

Dude, you're what's wrong with video games. Instead of trying something new, you want to play the same old stuff. Would you really, honestly, buy a new DMC game each year that was the same old stuff but with different lvls? I've been playing DMC for a very long time, and each one introduced something different. Hell, the first two had shitty controls, but they fixed that. If you are upset by the artwork, I'm not going to knock you for it. To each his own. Also, where you not alive when DMC 4 came out? Ever hear of a guy named Nero? Wasn't Dante, played awesome, great game. I never liked Dante, his one liners were mostly dumb, (sometimes I laughed) and he just came off as unlikable. I play DMC games because the combat and controls are spot on and the difficulty is incredible. Its only hard if you suck. (lol, no pun intended.) Grow up and embrace change, if it were up to you all games would turn into Call of Duty/Madden. One every year, no innovation, and people wanting the franchise murdered after a year or two. Learn2Game

Edit: People were calling for Nintendo's head when they decided to make Zelda 3D.

Captain Qwark 94253d ago

well said sir, well said. although i do like dante lol but im all for change and a fresh perspective on existing franchises. worst case scenario, it doesnt work, hopefully the devs can see it and go back to the old style for the next game. best case scenario, they improve upon the franchise and now its even better

SavageFlamingo4253d ago

Finally. Someone who is actually open-minded. Good for you, sir.

Chitown712914253d ago

Ok. From what ive read and seen, this is not Devil May Cry. Im cool with change, as long as it is for the better. This is not. Not only does Dante AND Virgil look like retards now, theyre saying the guns can overheat ( o.O) , it plays at 30 FPS, there's going to be more focus on aerial combat (Basically no skill is required to do the combos), and from what ive seen, the constantly changing backgrounds look incredibly annoying. So that is my gripe with Dmc. If youre going to change a franchise direction, dont totally forget the user base that made it popular in the first place. And some things dont need to change. If its not broke dont fix it.

oNIXo4253d ago

Chi, exactly from what you've READ. Not from what you've played. If I've listened to everything I've read I should love Haze, Bulletstorm, Diablo III...etc.

Chitown712914253d ago

@oNIXO: Dude , im my opinion was based solely off what ive read, then I wouldnt be complaining. Everybody is saying it plays great and that I should give it a chance. But I wont. Im not buying it thats for sure, I might play it if a friend brings it over but other than that , im cool. It just doesnt appeal to me

fei-hung4253d ago

Kind Sir, no one minds a change as long as the right changes are made. E.G.

1) change of clothes
2) change of holiday destinations
3) zelda from 2D to 3D

Then there are bad changes or changes which raise questions. E.G.

1) david cameron for prime minister
2) changing water to alcohol as choise of your 2litres a day
3) street fighter going from 2D to 3D

What Crapcom and NT have done was unneccessary change. They could have easily:

1) created a new IP
2) created it as an alternate universe DMC
3) got PG to make it

No one said it plays unwell or is a bad game. Those who arent happy are those who not in favour of the games new direction. Story over gameplay. Button mash over skill. More platform than action. Realism and gritty over crazy japanese action and goth.

When Zelda changed, it didnt lose its soul and it change its purpose and identy, but DMC has.

It may be a great game and I will play it as much as I am against it, however, I will not support the dev or publisher. I will make a bargain bin 2nd hand purchase or borrow it of someone.

Chitown712914252d ago

Exactly what Fei Hung said...agree all the way dude....

Alot of people like to think that the fans of the original are disapointed based off of his hair and character design.

But fans of the original are basing it off of more than that. When doing the same combo over and over again and the enemy takes equal/more damage and your grading gauge keeps improving up shows the simplicity/dumbed down combat compared to the intricate/complex rewarding combat that Devil May Cry has! And that's just one of the things.

Keep this game, I'll wait for the real Devil May Cry to stand up.

Give me a sequel, not a prequel and innovate Devil May Cry and everything about it. This DMC is a step back and has not really innovated the series at all.

oNIXo4253d ago

You haven't played the game, you don't know how hard it is to cancel shit in mid-air and resume the combo. If you are talking about the video from PAX the guy that was playing said it was something he like to do, but the timing was hard. He did it that one time and got like 45 hits in the air. He tried it a few more times and couldn't pull it off. Fans of the original aren't mad about how hard/easy the game is going to be, most of them are mad that Dante looks like an angst riddle teenager. If you've played the game, please tell me how the combo system works and how hard/easy it is to play. If not, don't hate a game just because, in your mind, it doesn't play the same.

SavageFlamingo4253d ago

I have played it. It feels just like 4, with a genius on-the-fly weapon switch system.

jghvhv4253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

@SavageFlamingo
DMC3 had a on the fly weapon change too,you know. But thanks for telling us it is like DMC4 because now I know for a fact that it's not even worth renting.DMC4 was worse than DMC2.Oh and "On the fly weapon switch"as a feature? Jesus, the stuff you people say.

Hicken4252d ago

You seem REALLY intent on defending this game.

No, that's not it. You seem intent on defending the CHANGES to the franchise.

There are PLENTY of reasons franchise fans are not behind this game. For starters- and probably least important- there's Dante's look. We were told by Ninja Theory and Capcom that Dante had gotten old, that no one liked his look anymore. Yet they put him in MvC3 with that original look, and NOBODY COMPLAINED. And this was AFTER they showed off his new look. As has been said before, you don't drastically change the look of an iconic character- and believe it or not, Dante IS iconic- without regard for the fanbase's opinion.

Next up: gameplay. DMC has always been about fast-paced, 60FPS action, Skill-based combos, etc. It may surprise you, but people familiar with the series don't have to PLAY this game to know that the gameplay has changed. And I'd even go as far as to say the majority of franchise fans DO NOT think this gameplay change was for the better. (Otherwise, they wouldn't complain about it, would they?)

Third: atmosphere. This includes the story, world, and characters, NONE of which are the same as before. Inexplicably changing everything about the series after four games have built up a following based on the aforementioned attributes is never a good thing. NEVER.

Fourth, and most important to me: fan treatment. I don't know if you've been following this from the initial announcement, or whether you've forgotten it, but Ninja Theory treated the fanbase like crap from the outset. They've even trash talked the original creator and everything about the first four games. They've said they weren't making the game for the fans, but for themselves. That it didn't matter what people thought of Dante's new look, they weren't going to change it. That it was a prequel(disregarding all the continuity issues that would cause). And so on. And Capcom has allowed all this.

Don't get me wrong; by all accounts, this game will be pretty good. But it would have been better to make this a new IP, or a side story in the DMC universe, because the only thing it has in common with an established and still very popular franchise is the use of some names.

If you can't see how this would upset people- how the COMPLETE change of a franchise would alienate and anger people who have been fans for more than a decade- then I don't think you should comment on the subject.

oNIXo4253d ago

Oh, punctuation dude, punctuation. I had to read your post like 3 times to decipher what you were saying. Not a personal attack, just wondering if you could do me a courtesy.

jghvhv4253d ago

Old Dante and new Dante are like Dean and Sam from Supernatural.
Old Dante= Dean:They are both people you cheer for, even though they are both assholes.
New Dante= Sam:No one likes Sam.

Captain Qwark 94253d ago

clearly you havent watched the newer seasons lol. i used to love dean and think sam was just okay but the last few seasons they have made sam such a bad ass and turned dean into a whiner. he just bitches and moans about everything lately! no more cockiness, only a few funny one liners, hell he's not even eating as much as he used too!

jghvhv4253d ago

I've only seen seasons 1 to 6.I'm still waiting on Amazon to stock Season 7.I hated No Soul Sam more than normal Sam for some reason. You're right about Dean, though.Giving him that lady and kid to whine about ruined half of season 6.And Dean shoud be eating more burgers!

Kyosuke_Sanada4253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

At least give the past Devil May Cry some closure. If Capcom did that and kept Tameem's mouth shut to just develop the reboot then I think the new one would be way more appreciated......

Too much game developers think they are rock stars and feel free to saw whatever they want to gamers publicly.....

yeahokchief4252d ago (Edited 4252d ago )

Martin you really need to start using spell check on your articles. Mispelling simple words like "redesign", "completely" and "different" makes you sound like a child. You also have a few punctuation errors. Not good for a newspaper journalist.

I don't care what Capcom does anymore. I'm not buying their games. I agree DMC 1 was the best game of the series.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC9d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos8d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga8d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer9d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6029d ago (Edited 9d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya9d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde9d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP9d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

Two Devil May Cry games delisted on Steam

Two Devil May Cry games have been delisted on Steam. As shared on X, formerly Twitter, by Wario64, Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition and Devil May Cry 4 are no longer available to purchase.

Bless the adorably all digital future! When it comes to PC games its not as big of an issue because there should always be another way to access single player games, but still, I hate to see anything get delisted.

Aaroncls787d ago

Well, DMC4 special edition has a lot of issues to run from Steam.
I have to get a modded executable to even be able to run the game on Windows 10.
Not sure if it is because the game runs in DirectX10 or what, but it sucks they have not even tried to fix it.

Sephiroushin85d ago (Edited 85d ago )

DMC4 Special Edition is not delisted, it was just the standard version, it has nothing to do with issues of performance or anything alike. Its just that Capcom probably do not want to sell the standard version, neither the standalone DMC3 version.

If it ain’t on Sony box it’s bad

autobotdan272d ago (Edited 272d ago )

Ninja Gaiden 2 was never multiplat. NG Sigma 2 is a remixed game not the same game at all

darthv72272d ago

Dante's inferno... such a great GoW inspired game. So sad the sequel was canned, it sounded like it was going to be even more epic than the first.

Vits272d ago

Yeap, classic GoW is still better mechanically. But the aesthetics and atmosphere of Dante's Inferno were just top-notch. Shame it never got a PC port, but at the very least is available on modern Xbox.

Juiceid272d ago

This list is ok, but Ninja Gaiden reigns supreme!

GhostScholar272d ago

I just can’t get into the devil may cry series. In my opinion you never feel powerful in those games. The guns are pointless as they only serve to be a flashy part of a combo. DMC was the only one that I could tolerate long enough to beat.
