Scripted event with a little bit of platforming just like Enslaved...this isn't Devil May Cry -.-
as for the graphics,it's unreal engine....enough said, this game will fail.

TronEOL4259d ago

And previous DMC games weren't scripted? They were stage based games before with little to no exploration besides the path in front of you.

This game looks to be exactly the same, but with much more going on besides fighting through static environments.

fanboygamer4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

Agree.
I'm not a DMC fan, but I have played a little and completed DMC4(not everyones favourite).
I don't see how scripted event with a little bit of platforming isn't the same as almost every other game out there. DMC4 was the same.
I guess no matter how good this game is no one will like it because they don't like Ninja Theory taking a realistic look instead of the old anime look.

edit/update:
ignore my comment... just looked at old dmc videos to remind me of what it was like and it does seem alot different.

NewMonday4258d ago

the camera movement is giving me a headache

pleas pleas tell me it's from the video and not the game

badz1494258d ago

If only they can slap this game with another name. It's not DMC and that emo kid is not Dante! We had a young Dante already in DMC3 and that was such a great game!

But with Capcom, RE are not RE anymore, and now DMC too! Way to devalue your IP there, Capcom.

strauser3604258d ago

Dante was a gentleman before this game.

What is Tameem Antoniades doing in this game????

Oh and it looks like crap.

AsimLeonheart4258d ago

The game looks really choppy. There is no detail in the animations and movements. They just kind of happen without any gradual movements. Character and enemy designs are ugly as hell without any hint of creativity. The game looks easy as well with no depth in the combo system. Damage to Dante's health bar is too low. Moreover, why are the noob previewers able to pull of such long combos and stay in the air for 15 seconds at a time?? They cannot possibly possess the skills if this game requires any. Casuals and new kids on the block can rejoice.

Christopher4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

I've played a few DMC. The fighting in this looks like DMC. Not sure what you other guys are seeing. It does seem more along the line of a corridor game, but the fight looks like DMC.

DragonKnight4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

What we're seeing is slowed down and "accessible" combos, lowered framerate and a sluggish feel. And that's just the beginning.

**EDIT** Since you want someone to put some paragraphs together that discusses our problems with with DmC, expect to see a story about it soon.

Sevir4258d ago

If that's true or not. So by that token I guess you can proceed to stay quiet maybe and play it till you can know for sure? Just a suggestion.

Christopher4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

It looks as fast as previous games to me. I didn't find combos in the past games to be that fast or hard to pull off to begin with. What made it difficult were cheap opponent maneuvers, not pulling off combos.

Edit: Actually, if you ask me, it looks faster

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Edit 2: I also don't think a lot of people realize is that the people doing the demos are the game testers who have mastered the game as it is. So, all the combos they're getting that look easy, may not be as easy as they make it look.

phigz184258d ago

I agree. I just skimmed the video and I think the combat looks pretty similar. What's slow to people, the gauntlet combat? That should be obvious, gauntlets in DMC have always been slow. I dunno, I haven't played any DMC titles for a couple years, but this honestly seems pretty comparable to me.

And people complaining about platforming, there has been a lot of platforming in DMC games before. Particularly when looking for the secret rooms or whatever they were hold.

A lot of people just had a negative mindset from the get-go. No changing that, I guess.

raztad4258d ago

I'm more worried about the framerate (on PS3) than anythin else. First of all, a 30fps DMC is a travesty, period. Come on, DMC4 was 60, and on early days of the console, now the newest game is gonna be a step backwards, just for the sake of using UE3. Totally lame. It wouldnt be horrible bad if I was sure DMC would hold 30fps steady (not as responsive but at least smooth), but I'm not, considering UE3 always struggles on PS3. Enslaved anyone?

vallencer4258d ago

@jblaze

The problem with your link is that it goes to a N4G article and I'm sorry but it's not really credible since most people that are the vocal fans on here are all the negative ones. I agree with everything cgoodno has said. The gameplay looks exactly like DMC game should. The only real complaint fans have is of the character and thats about it. He isn't so much as defending the game as he is really giving it a chance since it isn't out yet which i think all these so called "fans" should do as well. Just because the character is changing doesn't mean the game will be bad.

I have to agree.

I don't mind that they're doing a reboot or that he looks a bit like an emo. It's probably for the best seeing as how I bought 1,2,3 and the re release of 3 on the PS2 and never bothered to play 4. The series did indeed get stale.

But this game looks boring and mind numbing. It looks insanely linear. The combat looks too simplistic and much slower paced with fewer enemies.

This just all around looks lackluster. The new style of the characters and learning more about the characters origins is probably the only thing a DMC fan could look forward to. But knowning Capcom it'll probably be full of cheesy stereotypes and cringeworthy moments. I think i'll spare myself the disappointment.

The boss actually looked pretty cool. Everything up to that point bored the fuck out of me.

sdtarm4258d ago

Devil May Cry 4 is cool i can assure you that :) albeit quite repetitive, specially the music

aceitman4258d ago

i am a fan of the series but i wont buy this one ,

JoeSchmoh4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

I agree, this game just looks good. If you played devil may cry 1-4, this game isn't anything new. At least in Devil May Cry 3 they gave him a variety of weapons.

specialguest4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

The game looks good and the combat looks like it has improved a lot, but I wasn't wowed by it though. The hack and slash games that pushed the boundaries in my opinion, and really impressed me were GOD3 with its epic scale and brutality, and Bayonette with its over the top extreme and stylish theme and combat.

this is like watching a train derail off its tracks, the fans know where we wanted the franchise to go and capcom and ninja theory have no idea how to take it there...

Kran4259d ago

a train derailing looks cool though :(

doogiebear4259d ago (Edited 4259d ago )

I never beena huge fan of DMC (old or new) even though I owned some of them. But, from an artists perpective:

Fans are not experienced game designers though. Give the developers just one chance to try something different. If it flops in sales, then hopefully Capcom (who is quite greedy) will listen to fans, and treat this new Dante as if it were a mere one-time spin off. If it's merely just "bad", then maybe fans can compare the two so Capcom can keep what works from the new and old games and consolidate their vision with the things fans liked from the previous series. I mean: i'm gonna be a Game Design major, and i'd HATE to be in a predicament where I was a game designer who was not allowed the chance to experiment with franchises. If I'm thinking it needs a new fresh coat of paint, then i'd love to know that my art isnt compromised by some whiney fans who want it to stay stale. They are standing firm because they believe in what they are doing, so just leave it be and wait for reviews to come in. If the game is bad, it wont sell, and the developers will be taken off of the project. Simple as that! But at least the developers believed in their art enough to put their credibility on the line. THAT stubborn insistence of theirs makes me intrigued to see qhether they will succeed, or utterly flop. But stagnation in art is no way to go. Frankly i never liked DMC games (i like Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta more..DMC games have not changed enough over the years) and I dont think this new DMC will change my mind either, but I hope that this gamble by Capcom was a wise one.

Art > compromising

vickers5004258d ago Show
DragonKnight4258d ago

So let me get this straight. An experienced game designer, meaning someone who has gone to school to design games, knows better about what makes a good game than fans who actually prove it by spending money on great games and voice their concerns? You don't have to be an "experienced game designer" to know what crap looks like. Arrogance isn't the same as artistic vision. If they wanted to experiment with DmC then they should have made it a spinoff. That way no one expects anything of it as it pertains to the main series, and they can gauge what would work in advancing the main series without compromising anything.

Experimentation and variety is good, but one must understand the definition of the word iconic when they choose to tamper with an established franchise. Iconic, by its very definition, means it can't be changed. The second it is, it is no longer iconic. Mario is iconic. The second Mario's appearance or the way he is used in the game, or anything about his character/backstory is changed then he is no longer Mario. It is exactly the same thing here. And an experienced game designer should have the wherewithal to understand what SHOULD be changed and what SHOULDN'T.

Kran4259d ago (Edited 4259d ago )

Wow.... so you'd pass up a free game even if it was a s*** game?

You sir are no true gamer.

Lord_Sloth4259d ago (Edited 4259d ago )

And you, sir, have never played Vampire Rain!

vortis4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

Gotta agree with Lord Sloth.

I forgot about Vampire Rain...I actually did get that game for free and it was well worth the trade in, although I feel sorry for the sap who was uneducated enough to buy that piece of garbage out of the bargain.

Also, Made Man says "Hi".

ThanatosDMC4258d ago

HAHAHAH! Vampire Rain... that was like an alpha game.

Whitefox7894258d ago

What about Sonic the Hedgehog 2006? Even Sega admitted that game wasn't finished.

Iceman X4258d ago

I would take a free game even if it is trash, and go trade it in for a better game.

not even if they give me money on top of the game. It looks too boring and and and and... what's wrong with the life bar ? :'(

Fak you Ninja Theory

Parappa4259d ago

It's looking better with each video. Shame that people are still hating on the game just because they can't handle his new design. They're going to miss out on a great game.

Kalowest4259d ago

"They're going to miss out on a great game."
How so, when so many other great games are coming out next year?

Croash4259d ago (Edited 4259d ago )

Uh, it is possible to play great games and still miss a few along the road.

What's for sure is that 2013 will be packed with a lot of fun experiences and I sure hope everyone will find something that pleases them.

That's probably what you were saying with your comment, Kalowest, but it doesn't change the fact that those who're hating on DMC's new direction are going to miss out if and only if the game ends up being a satisfactory Beat'em all and one of 2013's "Must be played" titles.

I'm sure that it will have a lot of qualities (art direction comes to mind) like Heavenly Sword and Enslaved but both of these had many flaws that must not be found in a Devil May Cry game.
The build has greatly evolved since they showed it during TGS 2011 and I'm sure the fans' feedback had a lot to do with this.
Let's hope Ninja Theory doesn't waste these last 4 months of polishing.

Edit : Please, NT, change Eryx' design!
How could something that ugly find its way in a concept art is beyond me as the other weapons we've seen so far look quite stylish.
The Ifrit gloves looked better than these Prototype-like fists.

DragonKnight4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

"Shame that people are still hating on the game just because they can't handle his new design."

Give me your gamercard. You don't deserve it if you think that THAT'S the only issue.

@donbear: Give me yours too. If you are incapable of reading you shouldn't be on the internet. Dante's look was the catalyst, meaning it started everything, it isn't the bulk of what's wrong.

doogiebear4259d ago

IKR, people hating on the new Dante because of how he looks. Wtf are they gonna sleep with him? WTF do they care what he looks like. He can look like Danny Devito for all I care, so long as he can still pull of Dante's amazing skills and acrobatics.

Kalowest4259d ago

"Danny Devito" is awesome, i would play a game with him in it.

Elda4258d ago (Edited 4258d ago )

@ donbear...100% AGREED!!

timeon111111111114256d ago

People care about Dante (the real one) for same FUCKEN reason Capcom is using Dante to market DINO (Dante in name only - DmC).

If you think Devil May Cry is Devil May Cry without Dante (not Dino in DmC) - then you don´t know what the hell your talking about. DmC isn´t a new game or a spinoff, it´s using DMC brand and the character. And that gives fans all rights to complain.

Oh and Tameem Antoniades who had a major role in creating D.I.N.O said that Dante would get laughed out in a bar and that he was outdated. That he is no longer cool. Imposing his subjective opinion of "What is Cool?" on everyone who likes Dante and finds him cool.

It´s really funny because in a interview with EDGE Online Alex Garland (who´s story consultant for DmC project) shared with readers in the interview that Monkey (the male lead character of Enslaved) beat up and killed a helpless slave, and that Tameem Antoniades and others found that BAD ASS. Tameem Antoniades - same guy who imposed his fucked up opinion of "Smoking is cool, hangover is cool, being a punk is cool", But Dante (real one) is not.
Bull....shit.

Oh and if you care only about gameplay of a game don bear then go play DMC 1, 3 and 4. I highly doubt with focus on graphics and "story" that DmC will be any better than DMC 3 gameplaywise. On top of it - it´s 30 FPS. Less smooth than DMC 3 and probably not better gameplay wise. So if your a gameplay type of GAMER and don't care if Dante looks like Danny Devito - go play DMC 3.

And characters are part of story - so of course fans care about Dante.

Carl_Shocker4258d ago

"Shame that people are still hating on the game just because they can't handle his new design"

It's NOT about the looks

Repeat

It's NOT about the looks

One more time since you obviously don't get it...Repeat

It's NOT about the looks

Honestly if your going to defend this terrible DMC game fine but at least know both sides of the arguments because we actually have solid reasons of why we hate this game.

Christopher4258d ago

People keep saying this, but so far the only difference I'm seeing is that it looks different and it has a bit of platforming involved in moving around the different levels. The combat looks like DMC, which is the meat of DMC games.

So, you guys keep saying it's not about the looks, can you actually put a coherent set of paragraphs together to tell us others what it is then?

HiddenMission4258d ago

@Cgoodno
I just sent you a message asking for your help. If you get a chance could you please look into my request.

creatchee4258d ago

@cgoodno
Nobody is going to write a couple of paragraphs because there isn't enough "wrong" with the game to justify that much text. And if they did, it would just be more of the "Dante looks emo" junk.

People need to let it go.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC13d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos13d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga12d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer13d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey60213d ago (Edited 13d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya13d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde13d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP13d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
