'Chasing Aurora' brings indie game style to Wii U eShop

PAX Prime's Indie Megabooth was stuffed with games for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, but we only saw on Wii U GamePad amongst the group of independent developers. It belonged to the creators of Chasing Aurora, an asymmetric multiplayer game coming to Nintendo's eShop.

The demo version of Chasing Aurora pits one Wii U GamePad player against four others armed with Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, with one player in pursuit of the other four.

Review: Chasing Aurora | oprainfall

oprainfall's Phil Schipper writes:

"I can’t exactly say that birds-chasing-each-other-throu gh-the-sky is a game genre with which I have a lot of experience. That’s probably because there are few, if any, that are about that besides the 2012 Wii U game Chasing Aurora. With nothing else to compare it to, there’s only one standard I can judge this game by: fun."

Am i the only one who doesn't care about indie games?at least the kind like chasing Aurora.Everyone is trying to make the indie scene a huge deal for next gen.

sincitysir13904d ago

It's because aaa games are becoming more expensive to make and so indie games fill out the empty months and days. Some indies are amazing like bit trip runner. It's only gunna get bigger so u best learn to respect the indie scene

_QQ_3904d ago

I can only see game droughts for people who only own one system. My problem is some indie games are too expensive for what they are. Example this game.

Ol_G3904d ago

seriously i tried the demo it just sucks it's not worth buying and the initial price was too high for something like this

LonDonE3904d ago

agreed, nintendo eshop prices are outrageous! they need to consider that allot of the eshop virtual console games are games which people have owned multiple times, and also on emulators and roms, so why not make them dirt cheap? they would sell allot more, and also the indie games are too expensive too, when i compare indie game prices in eshop to psn most times its cheaper or cheaper on my pc, so why should i give nintendo any extra?

lilbroRx3904d ago

Game droughts for people with one system? Few people own one system so that was never the problem to begin with. Its the desire to utilize the system.

Unlike Sony and Microsoft's consoles, people buy the Wii U because of its consoles features, not its money hatted games. People find the console itself fun and want games to play on it.

Its something a Nintendo hater could never understand because its something their preferred console doesn't provide.

gedden73904d ago

Sorry guys your game just wasn't that good....

jcnba283904d ago

I agree the demo was quite boring.

lilbroRx3904d ago (Edited 3904d ago )

I thought I was alone in this.

I played it, and after I actually figured out what you were supposed to do, I released that the game blew. Its pretty much a small scale racing/tag game with nothing much unique about it except you use colorful birds, and you have to play it multiplayer(from what I saw) which is another problem.

LonDonE3904d ago

it was more like a free game i see by the dozens on my android phone and on my iphone, so why would i pay ridiculous amounts of money for it on wii u when games like it with little to no substance i can get for free elsewhere? that's the problem with eshop they are trying to sell games for more money then they are worth and which allot of the times are clones of free games on android and ios, so why not make them 99p or better yet free? the only game worth any money on wii u shop for me was trine 2 which was a master piece, and well worth every penny, and it had substance, unlike the game mentioned above!

Ah yes, chasing aurora. The game I wanted to buy the moment I put bleach in my eyes.

Edit:
gedden7 pretty much says it.

lilbroRx3904d ago

I love indie games and have bought many on the Wii U. Chasing Aurora was not one of them. I played the demo. Its not a very fun or interesting game.

Its sad that when uninteresting/bad games don't sale on Nintendo hardware, Nintendo gets blamed for it. Maybe if they made a game people actually wanted, people would buy it.

Most indie devs have told stories on success on the Wii U so they can't claim that games don't sale on the console.

Reeze3904d ago

Honestly, I bought that game and have only played it once. It has a neat concept and good-looking graphics, but it's no fun if you're by yourself.

I wouldn't blame the lack of satisfaction on the Wii U customers... I would blame it on the game itself.

"Animals rule the world" in Secrets of Rætikon; Broken Rules seeks "more control"

"Secrets of Rætikon feeds off exploration to direct its core theme of flight; a world where interactions will take place between the player and the animals that reside in it. Of what sort these will be - threatening or calming - remains to be seen. For now, Martin Pichlmair of Broken Rules explained to BeefJack how the concept is developing and how it will differ from Chasing Aurora."
