Square Enix Discusses The Future of Final Fantasy

Tetsuya Nomura promises to show the future soon. Hajime Tabata shows an otome Final Fantasy idea. And some speculation is made about a Final Fantasy Monsters game.

People is getting mad when i say PS4. The game haven't came out yet it been about 6yrs when we first seen FFv13. This gen is almost over and nextgen about to start maybe next year. We still don't have a release date for PS3, so i thank it's going to be a nextgen game on PS4.

It doesn't matter if the gen is over or not as it will still be released on the PS3. Sony isn't going to completely drop support on the PS3 just because the PS4 releases.

I didn't say Sony going to drop support for it i said it's coming on PS4, people can get mad all they won't, but still look at how long it been this gen is over 2013-2014 PS4 will come. Agent was being worked on and got push back, Last G mite get push back it haven't came out Sony stopped a lot of games being made you send the articles so why not push this back to.

I think they might make it a PS4 launch title. That and Agent maybe. Then there will be LBP3 and Gran Turismo 6 and maybe The Last of Us 2.

That would be killer for a launch lineup. Throw in a $399 launch price for the PS4 and we would all rejoice.

That's just stupid though, vsXIII was already changed from being a PS2 title to a PS3 one and considering all the money that has gone into making the game and the new engine, it would be completely stupid to waste all of it. Unless if the PS4 has a very similar structure to the PS3 (which goes against most rumours we've heard which state it's more of a computer-based architecture), a lot of the work would need to start from scratch.

Yeah, there's some real problems with FF Versus and I stand by that its been cancelled. I know there's no proof of the game cancellation but at the same time there's been no proof of the game development as well. Its been years since we seen any thing new.

It's been a year and a half man. Not too long, look, I know people think this is weird, but S-E have FF14 to hype right now, and possibly FF13-3, they also had FFXiii-2 last year. This may seem weird, but by releasing and showing Versus Xiii stuff, they are making their other games look bad. Just because it is more ambitious than the Xiii series so far. In reality alot of people would but the 3 of them if they were good, but to put it in simple speech, Versus is a more impressive game than 13 and 13-2, we don't know much about 13-3 yet but we do know that's gonna get a short dev time again.

Versus has more of everything, more time put into it, it's just bigger and more ambitious in literally every way. I believe that since the reception on the versus trailer last year, Wada has realized that Versus is actually what he should be putting his money on right now, he now wants it to be perfect and "surpass FF7". Which is why an engine was newly crafted just for Versus and **** is getting redone in it, it took him a while but he finally see's what everyone else saw in the original trailer, massive massive potential, money wise and quality wise

If the project was announced 6 years ago, wouldn't have more sense to say: Hey we're done with XIII what about finishing Versus which we already announced, and then go on and to XIV and sequels and whatever they like.

Come on, they already confirmed that there will be a Kingdom Hearts 3 when the team can't even finish ONE game in six years! Why the hell do they confirm it now?

Square Enix is up to something. Either they cancelled the game or they are releasing it for next generation. There is no other alternative at this point. If maybe they change the name to XV so that it "makes sense" to release it after XIII-3 and XIV, then it will be in next gen consoles. Also, if it does go to next gen, consider it multi platform. There is no way they will have the game only on PS4

@Xalaris: Thx for this massive trailer compilation! My hope still is that it will be a PS3 only title for all the refinement of an exclusive title. If it comes out this gen for PS3 and offers what the trailers show it is by far one of the best titles and maybe the last great entry in the PS3 library.

I could imagine: PS3 exclusive release and Multiplat release on next gen hardware likewise. Like it was planned for FF XII in the past. This way they cash in the most and still keep their word on exclusivity.

It's a spinoff of Final Fantasy. But it looks like it could be one of the best games ever for JRPG fans. It could even top FF7. I don't know why it's named Versus though.

I still think Versus XIII has been shifted in name. Maybe to XV, or something else. So they would not show "Versus XIII" at TGS.

It wouldn't be the same at all since Agito XIII changed in name without switching series (XIII).
Versus can't change in name to XV without still being part of the same series (XIII).

If ANYTHING, they'd change Versus's name to something completely different, just like Agito.

The difference with Agito 13 though is they didn't have enough time to change anything when they changed the name.

With Versus though it's been in development for so long, especialy after they saw how much backlash 13 got that they have plenty of time to change mythos in the game thats from the 13 universe meaning when they give it a name change it will be able to be called FF15 or something completely differn't without having to worry about being linked to FF13.

However, square has been known to host a closed door showing of their new IPs and current projects at The denkaki even in December and the Jump Festa event in October at the Sqare Enix mega theatre! So i'm sure the grand unveiling for this game has to be released around that time.

Square is about money and profits. Vs will not make back the dev time on a single console so it will either be cancelled or reimagined. The dev time can be blamed on sony creating a machine thats hard to program and low on ram and near impossible to do openworld with large scale graphics. Square is concentrating on dishonored and other multi releases that can be made quicker and make a quick profit. Square is not the same company they used to be and there financials show they cant continue to support games with long dev times and in house engines made for one game.

I want a Final Fantasy Starring young barrett. Thats actually the best idea i think squares come up with for ff in awhile. They could present barret in a more likable way and on top of that the series clearly needs racial diversity. also i dont know about the otome idea, but i would definetly like to see those character designs in a more japanese style, persona type game for final fantasy. nice to see squares brainstorming. Also im serious, i really want barret to star in his own game.

In all reality FFvsXIII will be the last hurrah this generation,looking at a 2014 release date because the year 2013 will be all about FF-XIV & Lightning Returns FF-XIII along with games published & licensed by Square.

I find the lack of accurate titlng on this article to be quite irritating, the title should stop at Final Fantasy. There was no such discussion about versus XIII, only a statement at the END of the (actual) discussion about FF's future. Tetsuya Nomura wasn't even present, his "soon I'll show the future of Final Fantasy" message was relayed via Hajime Tabata. The thing that should be noted here, is that two of the panelist were "Lightning" affiliated, so that should tell you what the true future of FF is. The fact of the matter is, FF has no future, if FF Versus XIII doesn't live up to expectations. It's gameplay is already questionable, as it's combat system looks similar to FF XIII/XIII-2. The real-time turn based model, set forth in FFVIII needs to return, (i.e. limit breaks, etc...) with improved mechanics. FF Versus XIII is looking more like a fantasy than reality.
