When working to evoke an emotion from the player, videogames often explore the extremes of the emotional spectrum mostly due to the gamer’s limited attention span.
Instead of working slowly and deliberately, unveiling a subtle and nuanced plot, games often work to create an explosive event either in the form of the death of a main character or the tragedy of a star-crossed lover. They essentially just want to make something that’s eye-catching.
However, sometimes we as gamers get caught up in one game’s presentation. Whether its because of a game’s reputation or its general public exposure, some games stay in the spotlight long enough that their experiences end up being synonymous with the best that gaming has to offer in terms of emotional evocation.
A prominent example is Aerith Gainsborough’s death in Final Fantasy VII (and no I didn’t warn you about spoilers because the game is over 15 years old now, come on). While shocking and certainly tragic, its incessant popularity tends to overshadow other tragic events in the franchise’s history. Allow me to share with you some of them.
Gary Green said: We’re finding ourselves in a similar position with the Pixel Remaster edition of Final Fantasy IV as we were with Final Fantasy III since, once again, we’ve received a slightly upscaled, more vibrant port of the original game when there’s already an expanded 3D remake available. As such, we’re playing a game which, even after its long-awaited release, still lives very much in the shadow of its remake.
If only they didn't screw ps4 owners over with a physical release. I'd have ran through this in a heartbeat.
The first one I played, it was the one that made me fall in love with JRPGs and is still my favorite to this day. A masterpiece
Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?
Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Aeris death is overrated, play Persona 2 if you wanna cry over a video game character death.
Galuf!!!!!!!!! So sad!!!!!!! People actually thumbs downed this...>_>
Is this Title a spoiler ?
fail ?
No.
While everyone's entitled to their opinion and all that, but Aerith's death was the most important to its particular story. It was central to its story. Just like it was vital in making the series what it was.
nope, Aeriths death was the most impact full to me.. Aurons was too tho.. FFX was voiced & the characters grew on you
