Rumors of a PlayStation Vita version of Atelier Totori first surfaced a couple of weeks back through overseas retail listings. It looks like those rumors were true! This week's Dengeki PlayStation has a first look at the game, which goes by the name Atelier Totori Plus.

Not surprised, Gust LOVES to make console and handheld versions of their games. It'd be swell if NISA brought this stateside. I never did get around to picking up Totori on PS3, but since I'm not able to be at home as often as I used to, I'd definitely grab a Vita version.

I own all three Atelier's so far with Ayesha coming soon I will definitely be buying this Vita version as well. Heck I think maybe 2, one to thoroughly enjoy the other to keep in mint sealed condition. Great under appreciated games THANK YOU GUST/NISA for your support this gen on PlayStation 3 & NOW Vita!

Me, too.

And I've only played played a bit of Rorona (Didn't like) and a bit of Totori (liked quite a bit more). Ayesha looks to be even better.

But, personally, I prefer games like this when they represent the minority of JRPGs on a system.

i tried one of em on ps2 & it was ok.. These latest versions this gen have been getting mediocre reviews.. Idk if western reviewers are biased toward eastern culture or theyre so damn obsessed with guns blazing & vicious murder that anything else gets bashed.. Either way i think more JRPGs need to get localized

Western reviewers do tend to be pretty hard on Eastern games, but Atelier has always been a particularly polarizing franchise, even amongst the most niche games to make it to the Western shores.

Personally, I have a soft spot for the games, but I fully understand why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

10 Franchises That Flourished on Vita

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "the handheld was unable to attract certain types of software – western AAA development quickly evaporated, as did Sony’s own support, because there weren’t enough consoles out there for such titles to be profitable. But that doesn’t mean that every publisher failed to find success. Indeed, there are a number of franchises out there that have been able to appeal to the Vita’s niche and which have seen positive sales numbers and critical reception, leading to them becoming mainstays on the handheld.

It’s these series that I intend to examine in more depth this article – what they are, what entries we’ve seen, what success they’ve had, and what it’s meant for the console’s future. I’ll be using known sales figures where possible to back things up, hopefully demonstrating that the Vita has been a solid home for a number of great series despite its otherwise weak commercial performance on the market."

All great series. Too bad some of the bigger system sellers didnt follow suit.

Get intimate with Atelier

Michibiku's Jenni Lada writes, "JRPGs become more predictable as they age. The mechanics are still sound, the stories still good, and the general concept still appreciated in a world where open-world everything is becoming the norm. Think of it as perpetual familiarity. We now what’s going to happen. Gust’s Atelier chronicles can fall within the bounds of predictable, but the series’ focus on individuals sets it apart."

I really enjoyed it and will be getting the next once I've got rid of some of my backlog.
