Super Mario’s Boss Doesn’t Want to Overdo It With “Mr. Video Game,” And Won’t Deceive You With DLC

Steve Totilo:

The line of games that started with Super Mario Bros and extends to this week's New Super Mario Bros. 2 have an unusual, innate appeal, according to the president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata.

Respect from me Iwata. Glad to see Nintendo is following the route DLC was invented for. Adding to the game. Not holding things back and releasing when you feel like it.

I'd really have to see what exactly their DLC will be.

It's easy to make empty promises like some other companies do. 4D gaming. 1080p for every game etc,but I've learned to wait for results before giving certain companies credit for what they say.

@R_ave_N your list is games that are completely different though. Heck 3 of those are 3rd party games not even made by Nintendo.

However on PS3 you have the exact same thing. LBP1,LBP2, Modnation and now LBP kart racing 5 Uncharted games that are all the exact same type of game.

Seriously I dont see your point. Sure Mario is popular. If Sony had Mario we would be on our 15th Mario platform game in the last 5 years. How many times can one play the same UNcharted again or God of War or any of the games on PS3 that are on their 4th installment this gen alone.

At least Mario Strikers isnt the exact same as SMG. You cant say the same thing about Uncharted 1 and uncharted 5 portable edition

No they would never release DLC like that when they can just create a game that has Mario in the title and sell millions of copies.

Mario Strikers Charged
Mario Super Sluggers
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Mario Sports Mix
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Super Mario All-Stars: Limited Edition
Mario Kart Wii
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Mario Party 8-9
Super Paper Mario

and those where just on the Wii

I liked the Line.. but not the examples, because when they did release the new games of the same genre (the sequels) they did add (or change) the Gameplay mechanics

Samus HD4271d ago

Ok some of the examples... -4-

And those are completely diffrent games just starring Mario, I guess Sony should have created LBP Karting as DLC then or Microsoft with Halo wars and not just a stand alone title.

R_aVe_N4271d ago

I actually agree with that LBP Karting should have been a DLC pack(or expansion because of the size) and Halo Wars just should have never been created in the first place it was just plain horrible in my opinion.

The Earthbound question at the end was the most entertaining (and hope filled) part of what was a very good interview. Props.

I think that Pokemon sets an excellent example of how Nintendo should handle DLC. Pokemon DLC is free, fast, simple, and always relevant for fans.
