Patches: Gaming's Band-Aids

Konami recently announced that the company will be releasing a patch for the Silent Hill HD collection. The patch promises to fix many “frame-rate and audio-syncing issues.” And it will only be released for the PS3 version of the game.
The Xbox 360 version of the Silent Hill collection will receive no such thing. Konami’s explained their reasoning behind the decision: ”Plans for an Xbox 360 title update have been cancelled due to technical issues and resources.”
That’s code for it’s going to cost too much to fix.

$40k for a patch, gtfo! Typical MS and their ripoff pricing! I don't blame Konami for not doing it at that price.

ThatEnglishDude4311d ago (Edited 4311d ago )

Or ya know, Konami could have done a better job in getting it right the first time. There's absolutely no excuse for the issues that Silent Hill HD Collection has/had. As I said in a previous post, this generation sucks. The ability to 'fix' games post-release has allowed for some very rushed and unpolished game launches. The whole 'release first, fix later' mentality has really bogged this generation down. I know games development costs are higher than ever but as I said before, there's no reason why companies like Konami, and Bethesda, to name a few, can't afford more QA testers. I don't expect a bug free game, but the issues that plague Silent Hill HD Collection and (to begin with) Skyrim should have never existed in the first place.

ESPECIALLY Konami. They're just dealing with 2 consoles. They don't have to account for a vast variety of hardware like a PC developer has. And again, we're talking abou the Silent Hill HD Collection here, folks. A port of 2 games that are near a decade old. I mean Christ! Didn't they already release one patch for the 360/PS3? They had their chance to fix their shit.

Roper3164311d ago

I totally agree about the rushed unfinished/unpolished buggy messes that get released and called a game. But to charge someone 40K to try to fix their mess is a complete joke and is why the 360 version will continue to suffer. I personally did not buy this collection but the dev should be allowed to fix their errors without having to pay 40k, I could see a grand or less but 40K come on.

ThatEnglishDude4311d ago

I've been hearing 40k, 10k, 1k - I don't even know what's true. I agree it is a ridiculous amount, considering it's 'supposed' to fix a game on their platform, but the issue and responsibility ultimately lies in the hands of the developer of said game.

isntchrisl4311d ago

When a developer can't fix their own game because of a huge pay-wall, there's a problem with the system. Consumers end up screwed.

That said, Konami shouldn't have shipped a broken game.

There are no "thoughtful" ads in video games, EA

There are no thoughtful ads in Video Games, EA. Leave them be.

I think the only type of games that can gets away with it would be sport games, having those sponsors ads on the side like on real life.

But don't put freaking Doritos ads in Star Wars or something, it breaks the immersion. If it is a pop-up ads, then big no.

Hofstaderman12d ago

EA can thoughtfully eff themselves.

Makersbreath212d ago

EA coming back for the crown of being perceived as the worst company in gaming.

Chocoburger11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

One of my favorite series is the THPS franchise, and it was packed with ads, but it didn't bother me. Posters for skateboard companies, JEEP, and Nokia phones. It did sort of fit in with the game world, but that was the past, these days ad would be intentionally intrusive or unskippable loading screen type of imagery. Ugh, I know EA would do it in a horrible fashion. Screw them.

Report: Sexual Misconduct Investigation Conducted at EA, Suspects Named and What They Did Revealed

EA senior staff has been investigated for sexual misconduct involving female coworkers, and these said people have been named publicly.

isarai18d ago

Aye just call Phil, i mean he somehow made Bobby Kotick's scandal disappear and gave him a few million dollar high five on the way out.

Cacabunga17d ago

I wonder if it will be censored with some in game ads.

MrBaskerville15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Microsoft did, Phil Spencer played a minor part. He instigated the buyout that led to Kotick escaping all his controversies while getting a golden handshake.

Someone on Twitter calculated that the people hired in Tango and Arkane Austin could get a decent salary for roughly 17 years for the money Kotick was paid.

InUrFoxHole15d ago

Yeah some thing tells me Kotics $ was already guaranteed before MS made the deal. As for the studios... Let's be honest here... none of those studios made system sellers.

XiNatsuDragnel18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

EA about to go down like Activision and then Phil saves the day saying.this is good for the industry and consolidation will help create competition. /s.

MrBaskerville15d ago

Then they shutdown Codemasters and studio behind Jedi Survivor.

Atleast they could hardly do much damage that EA hadn't allready done. EA has shut down most of their studios by now.

ravens5218d ago

What's up with all these horny creeps. You gon be horny, fine. Just not at work take care of that shit before you go in. Rub one out if you have to. Don't be a creep at all. ESPECIALLY at work. But don't be one AT ALL.

Extermin8or3_17d ago

I mean part of the issue is that things transpired outside of work....

MrBaskerville15d ago

That's the thing he mentioned about not being a creep at all.

KwietStorm_BLM17d ago

You think deviants care where they are? Work sometimes makes it an even better situation for them because they can abuse their power.

mudakoshaka17d ago

Nerds think they are Gods when they are making video games.

NotoriousWhiz17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

"it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed. [...] The victim still has to work with the people that harassed her."

Yep, EA is disgusting.

Extermin8or3_17d ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.

Interesting that Konami is releasing nothing of note and still enjoying high profits. I guess this is the allure to companies.

VenomUK19d ago

It was probably due to the half-hearted release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection v1.

Imagine the extra sales Konami could’ve made if it had put some effort into it.

JL293018d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Half hearted? MGS: MC is the best collection of Metal Gear games you can get with tons of bonus content.

Why are you mad? Because they didn't make the games 4K so you can see the low resolution textures and warping better? Most of you cry babies never even touched the MSX Metal Gears.

SimpleDad19d ago

Of course, they rereleased MGS series on modern platforms. Thank You Mr. Kojima.
