Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.
RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

i kind of thought the companions were a bunch of self absorbed douchebags. they never talked of doing good for the sake of it, just about coin and battle and the honor of ysgrammor (sp?). granted they did perform some good deeds, but most of their quests were about them. it would have been nice to see a group of genuinely stalwart protectors, like the knights of the nine. that was a great add on. anyway, just my 2 cents. good article though.
I thought the companions were better than the imperials or the stormcloaks. The individuals in charge of both of those groups were egotistical dickheads, especially the stormcloaks.
At least there is some mention of honor with the companions. Also they do serve their community by killing random beasts and helping people in need.
Everyone in Skyrim is an asshole, and I think that's kind of the point. The developers must be very cynical.
