FIFA 13: 8 Failures We Want Fixed

WC writes: Fifa is a game that quite regularly delights its loyal fan base; however it has a keener ability for infuriating them, upsetting many and leading to the destruction of their controllers, (I speak from experience: THAT WAS NOT A PENALTY!).

Despite this I have not lost hope in a game which I’ve played for more time than I have spent working, revising and talking to humans and intend to do the same when Fifa 13 comes out…Just as long as it cuts out this list of failures.

Some are technical, some would lead to expanding the gameplay and some are just gripes which bother the man who is emasculated each time his player falls over for no reason and the opposition meanders through to score.

It’s just not right.

1: less menus and screens please. Before I even get to start a match I've been pushing an endless amount of buttons and looking at too many different screens, followed by screens asking me if I'm sure...(!)

It's annoying as hell. Just get on with it and quick! I want to play!

2: Fix. The. Replays. !!!
Sometimes you score a great goal or you had a brilliant build-up, so you want to watch the replay, and it's only the last 10-15 seconds(!)

You save it to your HDD, and you can only watch it back as a video-file, i quite crappy quality, in the 'theater'.

You can upload it to the crappy EA Onlie site, but only a max of 5 replays, all just as short as the ones you can save to your HDD.

It's just a horrible old-fashioned mess. Either fix the EA site so it will actually become useful, or just integrate a Youtube-upload link, so I can upload it to my YT account!

And please, for the HDD replays, let us save it as the original replay, meaning we can watch it back as we can IN the game, so different cameras and all that. PES could do it 8 years ago. Why can't FIFA!?

3: A player-editor. Some players look like the real deal. Others are a complete joke. Let me go into the editor and 'fix' existing players, so when I have an Ismail Aissati in my team, I can actually make sure he looks like Aissati!

Again, PES had it 8 years ago. Why can't FIFA!?

Completely agree.
And to touch on your first point, speed up going thru menus. Its so slow. Also I hate going into a certain section and when you leave it saves, regardless if you actually made any changes, and you have to wait while it saves instead of saving in the background like most other games.

High thru ball being basically useless. It will only work a certain way or wont work at all.
Crossing, needs more variety.
Infact, Manual Passing isnt really as manual as you would think.
Offside players being a magnet for every pass.
Heading, completely random at the moment making target men useless in the game. For example, you could have Andy Carroll or Peter Crouch in the box and cross a perfect ball to them only to be out jumped by a midget. But if you actually do make contact the heading direction itself is hit & miss too.
Pace, this is ridiculous. Theo Walcott should never be outpaced by Tony Hibbert! Especially when he has a head start!!
More responsive skills.
Shooting needs more randomness/variety, better volleying and dont go for a diving header when the ball is at your knee!
More time to get your team ready when playing online, 30 secs isnt nearly enough. Which reminds me, give us a more PES like tactic screen where you can move around guys without going thru the usual clutter of menus and saving crap.

Now this is what turns me off FIFA. When the computer decides you're not going to win. Your opposition will play barca like football and your team will play like drunken blind men that cant do anything right. That drives me crazy and i just turn off the ps3 when it happens.

Fifa 12 was honestly a disappointment for me. I really think Fifa tried way too hard with the whole 'new defensive system' - after many ranked games it felt like a massive marketing gimmick.

Chip through balls and the attrocious AI sometimes just costing you free goals cheapened the game immensely, not to mention how slow they made the game.. It's not meant to be paced perfectly 'like real life', it needs that tiny little mix of arcadey-ness so the better players can express the superior skill rather than relying on a blatantly imbalanced through-ball that can spack out defender AI.

Fifa 11 was a much better title when it came to purely gameplay aspects imho. Also I only play multiplayer so ya :p.

i agree FIFA12 is a complete disappointment and i also ONLY play online. Too slow, laggy menus, broken AI and stupid defending controls. You miss the square button one time you are DONE! Never saw that in real matches!!
Not possible to save the squad online i always have to change 4 players.
Sometimes it's just not possible to take the ball from an opponent. Garbage and i'm back on FIFA11

ont thing that pisses me off is the guy who comes and pushes the ball behind the line and no way to control him properly, plus de mega laggy menus.

Second thing is the 1 on 1 defending system is so crappy, try to take the ball from a player which is not moving at all, it's extremely frustrating to be able to do that. One day i was losing 2-1 the online opponent got scared and he went with the ball everytime near the line so the only way i could take the ball from him is by pushing it behind the line.

fifa 12 is there best effort yet,

but what is the power bar all about, its two small to see. fills up in about half a secound, its pointless, ive never scored one goal from a free kick, im starting to believe its impossible, and no im not searching youtube on how to take free kicks, its a flawed system, when you pick a lenient ref that should apply to the offsides, they call every inch offside, can we please pick more colours/ custom jerseys for teams, way, way, way to much menus, in the loading screen it loads up two players, the goalie and a player, in a four player match it should load up all players

Not all outdated football games are worthless

Games Asylum: "Outdated football games are a common sight when scouring jumble sales, car boots and charity shops for bargain price video games. Entire shelves filled with decade-old FIFA and PES games spread across a dozen formats. Often they end up in bargain bins, sitting alongside unwanted celebrity fitness DVDs and seemingly random TV show box sets. But here’s the thing. Not all football games gathering dust in the likes of Oxfam are in fact worthless."

Now Sonic Boom & Bayonetta 2 are being outsold by FIFA 13 Wii U

Just who is buying FIFA 13 on Wii U? We may never know, but there are more people buying that than there are Bayonetta 2 and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.

Sonic Boom? welp, sucks to suck.
But, Bayonetta is a real shame

wonderfulmonkeyman3444d ago

Sonic Boom is riding off the popularity of the TV show; it's a bad game.

And as for FIFA?
Well, guess that goes to show that there's a lot of older gamers on Wii U that wanted FIFA, then; sports games generally do out-sell action games, and Platinum isn't known for large sales in the first place.

I'm not worried for Bayonetta. It'll hit that 1M mark by the middle of next year, surely, at its current pace.

are seriously trying to downplay Bayonetta 2 with sales
