Why I Don’t Get Banjo Kazooie (Empty Lifebar)

During the N64 era, while many gamers were obsessing over the likes of Mario 64 and Star Fox 64, I found myself playing Goldeneye or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I certainly played a large handful of the “must play” and first-party titles from Nintendo; but I undoubtedly missed out on numerous classics that remain a mystery to me. Rare released Banjo-Kazooie and its successor Banjo-Tooie to the world: I played Gex: Enter the Gecko and the sequel Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko instead.

Hey hey HEY. Don't go dissing one of my favorite games. Say bad things about that wreck Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts all you like but leave Banjp Kazooie out of it

ThePsychoGamer4309d ago

Banjo Kazooie took a proven formula from another game, polished it more, and injected personality into the formula, add in a great soundtrack and it's clear why it's one of the best platformers of all time.

Now increase the polish to a near complete shine, better writing, lot variety in gameplay, a better soundtrack, and some creative bosses, it's clear why Banjo-Tooie is the best platformer of all time.

The other two Banjo kazooie games where decent, even if one wasn't a real Banjo Kazooie game

Break the locks.

Leonesaurus4309d ago

If Banjo-Kazooie had a cock I would totally suck it. If it had a vagina I'd totally fuck it.

Banjo-Kazooie was that fucking awesome.

Don't even get me started on what I'd do for Conker's BFD LOL

Loved Rareware back then, sad to see them now... :(

ChunkyLover534309d ago

Its always said when a company has success I know, but try to cheer up. Six platinum games in a single generation is tough to recover from, but I have faith that Rare will endure.

We will get to see what they've been working on for the past few years at next E3 though. A new IP and a reboot for Perfect Dark are the biggest rumors.

The original Banjo Kazooie was very much a stand out visual treat and a highly accomplished technical showing. Solid fun and a milestone really even after Super Mario 64. The game wasn't however incredible compared to the more sandbox SM64. Banjo trounced that technically of course and demonstrated Rare's might at outputting exceptionally crafted games in this regard, but it was only an example of a decent playing game with exceptional visual clout and great design. People rightfully champion Banjo because it was wonderful in lots of ways and one of the first truly delivered 3d platform experiences outside of SM64, but it's wrong to say it was exceptional gameplay- competent yes in a very two dimensional way. Unlike the very dynamic SM64, you pretty much had no other way of completing tasks. On it's own merits it's a very good game but one with limits if look past these

Jet Force Gemini is personally one of most adored of N64 games for example but it's not an especially brilliant game outside of some terrific boss battles. Actually it's the atmosphere generated from the excellent music and world that plays a lot into why i like this game

People's opinions definitely account for something but not always when it's analysis of gameplay

I only had the CD version of Final Fight but yeah great game, great music. Challenging too.

The Desert/Jungle Strike games need to return too.

Asplundh279d ago (Edited 279d ago )

I remember playing Clay Fighters a lot, honestly it wasn't great and it got worse with each sequel.

Snookies12279d ago

Bushido Blade needs to be on that list of fighters!

Terry_B279d ago

I agree, but Bloody Roar is higher in my priority lol..due to that already super fun indie fighting game hellish Quart which is still on early access

Onimusha and Legacy of Kain! Excellent choice.
I would add Shenmue indeed.

gold_drake279d ago

breath of fire

shadow hearts / koudelka
dot hack series.

and many more u cant think of right now haha

FinalFantasyFanatic278d ago

Maybe Shadow Hearts/Koudelka can make a return now that Penny Blood is in the works (worked for 100 Heroes/Suikoden).

I'd really like them to do a Dot Hack compilation/quadrillion pack, and having Breath of Fire return would be good too, it didn't deserve to go out with a whimper (I'm talking about that mobile game they made for it).

gold_drake278d ago (Edited 278d ago )

haha you dont need to clarify your points, i know xD

i know theres a .hack project on the way, but no one really knows what it is. from qhat ive just read, the vice Pres. of CC2 wants a remake of the four games, but Bandai holds the licensing and hasnt given the greenlight for it.

and yehz bof didnt deserve the the ceap games at the end

RaidenBlack279d ago

Quake (not including the re-releases)
F.E.A.R
TimeSplitters
Hexen
Brothers in Arms
Bad Company
Resistance
Legacy of Kain
Midnight Club
Burnout
... many more

porkChop279d ago

The Legend of Dragoon
Infamous
Heretic/Hexen
Sleeping Dogs
Midnight Club
Scarface
Lost Odyssey
Syphon Filter
Red Faction
Snatcher

shinoff2183279d ago

Porkchop you probably know already but did you know they worked on a scarface 2.

porkChop278d ago

Yeah I've seen footage of it. Activision cancelled it after they bought Sierra. I still think that's crazy. Scarface was successful enough that Sierra planned on making Scarface 2, 3, 4, etc. It's wild that Activision would just cancel it like that.

A New Banjo-Kazooie Game Is Exactly What We Need Right Now

Dave writes, "Banjo-Kazooie is a perfect franchise to bring back. Re-jigging it for modern consoles or creating a sequel will breathe life into a beloved series that has brought joy to millions of gamers for the last 25 years."

A new Conker would be nice too, and a new Diddy Kong Racing would make a nice change as well over the standard racers like Mario Kart.

Sonyslave3309d ago

Toy n bob can probably do since rare don't want too.

VincentVanBro309d ago

I’ve been waiting my whole life for another banjo kazooie sequel! Imagine a new entry with all of the ingenuity and new ideas they would have after modern platformers like Mario Odyssey

maniacmayhem309d ago

We had one with Yooka Laylee and it was trash and hardly anyone bought it. Let the nostalgia die, as much as I like platformers, we don't need another Banjo Kazooie, the game was mid at best.

Christopher309d ago

I'm of like mind. I think the appeal that we might have had for these games was a bit more nostalgic and that the advancement of the industry has led people further away from Banjo and more towards Fortnite and the like. People still enjoy the game, but it's a niche market because the industry moved on to other things.

Retroman308d ago

Industry moved on to other things. Such as??? Same boring open world shooters again and again and again and again same damn format with different titles. Same Damn shit since 2006 either military style fps or Viking solider, riding on horses, driving around with a car, sailing in a ship, to much Unnecessary exploring, to much side quest etc.
My Personal Opinion they all feel the same boring.

Christopher308d ago

Sorry Retroman, no individual controls the direction of the industry. It is what it is because people spoke with their wallets.

Number1TailzFan308d ago

Completely agree Retroman, most games today are simply better looking versions of the same stuff, recycled over and over. When they do something new, like for example Half Life 2 did in 2004 with the physics and very interactive world, it was fresh and exciting. Now many games take what came before and update the graphics and that's about it, or sometimes have less stuff than in the previous games even.

--Onilink--308d ago (Edited 308d ago )

Well that doesnt mean a good one cant be made.
Nintendo has continued to great make 3D Platformers, while not exactly the same Ratchet is not an entirely different genre either. Psychonauts 2 was great as well.
There is potential for a good Banjo game with the right developer.
That said, within MS probably only Double Fine or Toys for Bob I think could pull it off, Rare should stay far away from it, they are a very different team now

DarkZane309d ago

Just give up, leave Banjo-Kazooie in the past. They will never be able to recreate what made it and Banjo-Tooie good on N64 today, especially not by being owned by Microsoft.

purple101308d ago

The glory days of 007 Goldeneye ( with rumble Pak)

Perfect dark with ram expansion card.(but only really for 4 controller multiplayer )

Diddy kong racing & banjo

Those were all gems I miss those times, but let them go. Re-visiting your childhood is never as good as you think.
