Bethesda's Pete Hines Says Not so Fast on Dawnguard Coming to PS3/PC

Rumors have been flying this week regarding a release date announcement for Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC to come to PS3 and PC, but Bethesda VP Pete Hines says not so fast.

Lol, Bethesda hates PC and PS3 players...

Suddenbrain4298d ago

It's definitely inconsistent with the mindset they seemed to have leading up to and shortly following Skyrim's release. It was all about the PC audience then.

Emilio_Estevez4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

It's so weird how money changes their tune and the PC as favorite is now a distant past.

Hisiru4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

So... Microsoft isn't using money to develop some new exclusive IPs but they are spending their money with timed DLC trying to disturb some other players? It's not something that will make me buy a x360, it's somtething that will make me hate Microsoft even more. lol

zeeshan4298d ago

Well I guess they are in the market for money and if M$ offered them crap load then yeah, they were going to go that route. There are sooooooooo many games on PS3 (and I am sure on PC too). I mean, my backlog keeps piling up on me. Timed DLC doesn't bother me anymore. If there were too few games then yeah, I'd be frustrated but since there are so many games out there, this shouldn't be a big problem.

I just got my hands on HEAVY RAIN GOTY edition with all the DLC and everything plus 30 days PS PLUS trial from Amazon for only $19.99 and I was THAT close picking up Dead Island (also $19.99).

Anon19744298d ago

Perhaps 360 owners simply aren't done beta testing it yet. ;)

More like Bethesda loves bags of Bill Gate's loot.

LiamDirish4298d ago

This is EXACTLY the reason why & also the reason why PS3 owners haven't even received the 1.6 update yet. I traded in Skyrim a long time ago.

CrzyFooL4298d ago

You spelled Steve Ballmer wrong :-p

nerdkiller4298d ago

they just want bill to Tbag them

geddesmond4298d ago

Yeah first they announce a 30 day exclusive DLC deal for Xbox and crap all over PS3 and PC fans and now they crap on us even more with a long Exclusive time. Well my copy of Skyrim is getting traded in tomorrow. I've waited a few months for the DLC so whats another 6 months for when they release a GOTY edition that will cost less than all the DLC packs combined..

dubt724298d ago

I had a lot of fun playing it.

shadowraiden4298d ago

im sure bethesda are happy for your money :P

soniqstylz4298d ago

So you're gonna give Bethesda your money twice? Sucks for them.

geddesmond4298d ago

@Soniqstylz

You do realize that every bethesda GOTY edition has sold for 45 euros over here and each DLC pack will cost 15 euros if Dawnguards price is an indicator, so if they release 3 DLC packs thats the price of a GOTY edition minus the 19 euros I got earlier for my copy of Skyrim.

So yes in a way I am giving Bethesda my money twice but I'm getting 19 euros for it back, all the DLC will be on disk, there will be one more used copy for people to choose from, there might be 4 DLC packs which is saving even more money and all I had to do is wait which is something us PS3 and PC gamers have been doing already.

Waiting ain't a problem when your accustomed to it.

TBM4298d ago

meh doesn't matter much to me anymore since i traded in my copy about 2-3 months ago. i did pretty much all in wanted in the game, but it was getting boring with the constant fetch quests, and once you've killed a dragon it pretty much becomes been there, done that.

ddurand14297d ago

very repetitive. finally someone that agrees.

SilentNegotiator4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Hey, if they don't want more of my money, fine. I'll just download mods.

And if Microsoft wants to spend more than DLC exclusivity is worth (eg. GTA4, spending more than the DLC made back), it's their investors' losses...Microsoft stock hasn't hardly gone anywhere in 12 years.

nukeitall4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Of the three console manufacturers, only Nintendo a pure player has any significant gain in the last decades.

Sony for instance has a 20-year low stock and accounting for inflation it looks even worse! It's also close to it's 1-year low so things hasn't improved.

MS is stagnated in the last decade after all the anti-trust BS, but has been on a short term upswing recently and close to both it's 5-year and 1-year high so it is definitely improving.

The E&D division that houses Xbox 360 is making money hand over fist with little pricing pressure right now.

YodaCracker4298d ago

Microsoft funded the GTA IV DLC's development with a $50 million loan, of which Rockstar paid back in its entirety. That was always the agreement, and it benefitted both parties in the end.

fossilfern4298d ago

I am sick of Microsoft and this timed DLC crap! Why waste all that money to have content TIMED when it will end up elsewhere a month or so later?

Why dont MS use that money on new IPs so the 360 can have something more than just Halo, Gears and Forza.

HSx94298d ago

Lol while you are angry over here, I have already played and beaten Dawnguard on my Xbox 360, and let me tell you, it makes Skyrim much more funner, and expands it more to future DLCs

Consoldtobots4298d ago

sure you did troll, IMO the more MS does this the more it means they are that close to losing whatever lead they have left to the PS3.

edgeofsins4298d ago

Because MicroSoft doesn't care enough to make exclusives with as much time, effort, originality, and solid gameplay as even most multiplatform games despite being so rich.

360ICE4298d ago

Yeah, usually the idea with having things timed were so that you could say that it was exclusive for a couple of months, and have people buy your console in the belief that that's the only console getting the content. Then months later the publisher could still release the content on other platforms and cash in. Hence the exclusivity deal wouldn't have to be expensive enough to cover much in terms of lost sales on other platforms, and would still get audience to your console.

Nowadays they just tell people "Yeah, it'll be on other system in a month or so, but our fans will be bored by it by then."

...Where's the fun in that? A little more secrecy please. Or of course you could invest in studios and make your own exclusive content, but no.

SilentNegotiator4298d ago

"Why waste all that money to have content TIMED when it will end up elsewhere a month or so later?"

What else are they going to do with all that money? Dividends??? LOLOLOLOLOL, get real. It's half a billion dollar ad campaigns, $50 million timed content that gets a slight amount more of market share, and fattening up CEOs for Microsoft!

EVILDEAD3604298d ago

LMAO @ the all the hypocritical whining about timed DLC that makes it to the 360, when NO ONE said a peep when Sony announced timed DLC for both Assasin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 3 this year.

They BOTH use exclusive DLC to promote games..get over it..it won't be the first or last time it happens for EITHER console..not the end of the world..

Been too busy trying to play other games than Elder Scolls and Mass Effect 3..but definately getting the 'Dawn' DLC this weekend.

Classic N4G..

Evil

thatdudesfrys4298d ago

@HSx9, "much more funner"... That is a perfect example of the intelligence level of 360 users...

nukeitall4298d ago

@EVILDEAD360:

I know and look at your disagree to agree ratio! That's a fact!

When the exclusive DLC was announced for PS3, it was practically celebrated here. I think it's just because the DLC is for a damn good game, so some people are upset i.e. they care!

t0mmyb0y4298d ago

@troller It's that short?

Maybe Bethesda just feels that the Xbox gamers are the only ones who are willing to pay to be beta testers. Now they have time to fix the many problems with this addon before releasing it on the PC and PS3.

Baka-akaB4298d ago

for such an optimistic outlook to even works , pc and ps3 version would need to release with less bugs , and yet late patchs and dlc version of any Bethesda of this gen have proven the exact opposite .

Were fallout dlcs less buggy following the exclusivity ? Nope in the slightless way

ziggurcat4298d ago

considering how adept they are at programming for the PS3, i think it's the PS3 gamers who end up being the beta testers when it comes to bugthesda.

Bobby Kotex4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

I'm not buying it on principle, and I heard it sucked anyway.

greenpowerz4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Not so fast... Please, I'm really asking for the source official announcement link for the PC and PS3 versions. Not being smart here.

Was it real news? or speculation news made up be some desperate fanboys. Anyways thanks in advance.

I can't find any real announcement, only speculation

" PS3 owners, don't despair. Skyrim's Dawnguard will be coming to the PlayStation Network eventually too. The release date for the PlayStation 3 version of Dawnguard hasn't been announced yet, but I'd guess it will be around a month after the 360 version"

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed...

This betrayed act sounds idiotic

joab7774298d ago

Untrue. They just love $$$$$ alot more. I bought it for Xbox because of this and the lack of memory issues. I don't feel bad for pc players though because of the quality and mods available.

the bastards4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Judging buy the amount of comments I'd say this was pretty big news to both PC and ps3 gamers.

If my memory served correctly when the new tombraider was announced to get exclusive dlc for 360, almost nobody gave a sh!t. now there's over a hundred and something comments on this?

Clearly you wouldn't bother to click comment on anything if you frankly just didn't care.

I have to admit from the stuff i've seen on Dawnguard it looks pretty cool.

Derekvinyard134298d ago

THIS GAME IS STILL NOT FIXED ON PS3! Timed DLC exclusive whatever BUT TO NOT FIX YOUR GAME???? cmon this is complete bullshit. this game needed to be recalled

USEYOURFIST4298d ago

it works fine on my ps3 (fingers crossed it stays that way lol), but if its not working on yours then get a refund! i got a refund with assasins creed 1 and fallout 3 due to heavy amount of bugs ect then the shop will (should) report it to the distributor ect so that the publisher shoud hear about it and they probaby listen to losing money lol

tommygunzII4298d ago

Im about to platinum Skyrim on PS3 in under 280 hours, and it has played better than GTAIV performance wise.

Either clean up your HDD or look into a new one , it seems most multiplatform games depend on the HDD more.

showtimefolks4298d ago

Snookies12

no just like activision they like the blank checks MS send them after every COD and Obvilion.

we gamers are so lame ducks guess what bathesda's next game we will again buy day one, we been told by everyone they the only way these publishers listen is if we speak with our wallets. Why is that when ps3 and pc gamers are paying the same money at launch and ps3 version in particular was and is so broken.

just like capcom i don't buy bathesda games new i rather someone on ebay or gamestop make money than these greedy bastards. People hate on EA so much yet everyone else gets a free pass.

jsslifelike4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Skyrim is still relevant?

With Steam workshop, why would PC players even care about half-baked DLC?

Philoctetes4298d ago

Meh. I wasn't going to buy Dawnguard anyway. It didn't get particularly great reviews, and the people I know who played it already agreed that it was so-so.

Over7264298d ago

I think its a bit more complex for the superior systems.
360's are ok with a rub and tug
PC and PS3 you have to make love to. lol

tee_bag2424297d ago (Edited 4297d ago )

Personally I don't really mind waiting. I still have plenty to do in Skyrim before I even look at the DLC. Thats without even talking about the quality of this particular DLC itself.. it looks cheap and novel just choosing to overpower enemies with a vampire or a crossbow.. seriously its better off staying on the Xbox. I'm keen to see what's after this one.
Anyway, I still haven't finished Morrowind and am more interested in that right now.

Sad I have to wait for the dlc for PC. Oh well I have mods. Justt looking for big house. so I can move my weapons and armor to.

user54670074298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Thats not fair for PC and PS3 owners...

They said 360 owners would get the DLC one month early, Dawnguard came out on the 26th of June and it is now the 26th of July...it should be coming out this week.

You know what they kept saying before launch, oh the PS3 version is the same as the 360 version and the PS3 version has nothing but problems since launch. It's like giving a fanbase the middle finger. This is the studio people selected for studio of the year at the VGA's...bet PC/PS3 owners feel pretty stupid now that they voted for them. Well done.

The PC isn't so bad since they have mods to play around with so it isn't as bad but still isn't fair when they used to be the main audience for the Elder Scrolls franchise.

Megaton4298d ago

After dumping several hundred hours into Fallout 3 on PS3, I would never recommend buying a Bethesda game on the platform. Not only are they guaranteed to screw you with timed-exclusive deals with Microsoft, but when it finally does arrive on the PS3 it will be largely broken.

user54670074298d ago

I know they didn't do the PS3 version of Oblivion but even that wasn't that good so we have Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas and now Skyrim...

I think people should learn there mistakes by now. Especialy after how much they bigged up the PS3 version of Skyrim. They came off as liars...

If I was just a PS3 owner I wouldn't trust them anymore.

Christopher4298d ago

Problem is, MikeCosgrove, is that just gives Microsoft even more power to keep the Bethesda IPs on their console. The fact PS3 users don't like the game only gives Bethesda more fuel to partner with Microsoft.

There should be an organization that ranks/rates developers and publishers based on their actions and how they affect the community. If a developer puts out a product on multiple platforms but it is showing signs of support on only one of them, they should be rated poorly for it. If they take forever to fix bugs on one platform over another, the same.

Right now, there's a "who cares?" philosophy considering as long as their largest market share platform is okay the rest is fine as well (especially if they're getting money in addition to game sales). The consumer has no option but to stop buying or to buy on the platform that works. That doesn't do any good but for the platform owner, not the end user or the idea of competition in the market.

TheSaint4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

I realise this info is a little late/potentially pointless but you can 'install' F3 on the PS3, when you first exit vault 101 pause the game and you'll notice your yellow HD light on your PS3 will be flashing like crazy.

Leave it paused for ten minutes or so (until the yellow light stops flashing constantly) and it will be 'installed'.

If you leave it to do that it becomes almost as stable as the 360 version. If you're running around doing stuff while that 'install' is happening it becomes much more glitchy.

Silly gameAr4298d ago

I don't think I'll buy another Bethesda game period, and be fine with that choice.

USEYOURFIST4298d ago

like ive said above, completley agree about fallout and cgoodno thats a brilliant idea, companies only care about there money so my approach when i get a bugged game, fallout, AC1, is to not wait for patches ect i just take it back for a refund because i refuse to pay for a broken product. You wouldnt accept a broken console! I think in general us gamers have become lazy consumers not fighting for improvments, i bet most people who compaing on here about bugs dont even complain striaght to the company or perhaps just dont know there rights..but if we all actually took a stand and took that 5 mins to write an eamail complaining to a publisher or even better getting a refund on broken games then things would change!!!! just look how complaining got us slightly better ME3 ending, we can stop companies treating us like sh*t by simply not letting them get away with it, it hardly happend in previous gens its just the addition of networking has lead devs to be lazy and take the pc approach of patch patch patch...we have done it to ourselves, end rant lol

WeskerChildReborned4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Has their been a Bethesda game that didn't have problems?

Anyway, this sucks but i guess i'll just wait like everyone else.

synchroscheme4298d ago

May as well have been a 360 exclusive game if they planned on treating the other platforms like second-rate consumers.

The PC folks had to mod the game themselves in order to fix the issues in their half-ass port and the PS3 guys had to deal with a buggier version of an already buggy game.

If they wanted to play favorites then they may as well have gone all-in instead of pretending that they were going to treat everyone equally.

SuperStrokey11234298d ago

I dont mind waiting one little bit. Let the 360 players beta test it for us.

SuperLupe4298d ago

Yeah of course, while you wait x months to play Dawngaurd 360 players would have finshed it and moved on to a GOTY candidate like Halo 4 for instance.

Some people get all the fun + more while others just get to wait.

MasterCornholio4298d ago

Timed Exclusive DLC < Exclusive DLC < Exclusive Games

That is all.

XperiaRay

SuperStrokey11234298d ago

ITs not like there isnt other games to play though. I dont mind waiting.

SuperLupe4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

Well I dont see where all the exclusive DLC or exclusive games are for PS3 right now. I see exclusive DLC for 360 and some exclusive games coming up like Forza or Halo 4 and except for that SSBB I dont see loads of exclusive content coming up on the PS3 this fall.

DragonKnight4298d ago

@SuperLupe: If you're calling PSASBR SSBB instead, then way to troll.

DigitalRaptor4298d ago (Edited 4298d ago )

An ignorant SuperLupe appears.
DR uses "Educate":

- All-Stars Battle Royale. Looks like its going to be a blast, and we still haven't seen many of the characters in the roster.
- LittleBigPlanet Karting. The largely fun and endless creativity should be obvious. The beta versions for both these games are already out and will be expanding across more territories soon, so the fun is already beginning.
- Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and Ratchet & Clank: QForce. Both great looking 3D platformers, which the industry had been sorely missing in recent years.
- DUST 514. Deep, pervasive, free-to-play online shooter, with scale that is unmatched on consoles.

DustMan27d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
