Every four years, the world comes together and competes for ultimate glory in an ever-expanding list of Olympic events. Each Summer Olympics also brings with it an attempt at creating a video game which recreates the incredible atmosphere of track and field events and so much more. Each title brings something new, but in review Matt Bird's opinion hasn’t yet managed to create the perfect Olympic game. With London 2012, however, Sega has made a commendable attempt.
One Hit Pixel - United Front Games' latest title takes top spot, with New Super Mario Bros 2 in second and the London 2012 title in third.
Fingers crossed for Darksiders 2. I'm just 2 hours in and it's great fun and rich in content.
If you want to get a taste of the Olympics once again without watching everything once more on BBC iPlayer, you can always try out the game, but you will be missing out on a large number of sports. The game features 46 events from 13 sports, pretty stingy when compared to 304 events from 36 sports that we just witnessed over the past couple of weeks. London 2012 clearly doesn’t quite match the real thing for events to take part in, but the bigger question is, are they any good to play?
GodisaGeek: "Although the London 2012 Olympics have now drawn to a close (we shed a tear, did you?) the official video game is still going strong, holding the top spot in the UK charts for another week."
