SEGA Officially Announces Western Release of PSO2 in 2013

Today, SEGA will officially announce that they will be bringing Phantasy Star Online 2 to North America and Europe, with a release date in early 2013. In addition, the official teaser site should be going live at www.pso2.com sometime this morning. Our friends at SEGA were kind enough to give us a heads up on this great news, and PSO-World is proud to be the first site to share it with the Phantasy Star community. Here is a copy of the official press release, check it out:

Loved PSO so I am looking forward to this! A little worried about the F2P model, wondering if anyone who has played the Japanese version know if it works well?

It works extremely well. You can NOT buy weapons and the stuff you can buy is not really game altering other than 2x EXP rate for 2 hours. They will also be selling special costumes as well and the best part is that people can sell them to other players via shops to buy with the in-game money rather than real money.

Also just for playing you get "FUN" points which you use on scratch off tickets that can potentially give you premium items.

It is one of the best F2P models I have seen and it works very well for people who want to and dont want to pay.

You only have one character and you need to pay for an extra. You need to buy extra mags with cash too. You need to buy extra skill trees with cash as well.

Also, you need to pay to trade, get a room and setup a shop.

Yea exactly what wwm0nkey said. Very good F2P model the premium subscription gives you access to your room, shop and premuim blocks (you can still buy from player shops without being premuim though) but pretty much 95% of the game is free and it has taken the best bits out of the whole pso/psu universe and merged them, but still has that pso feel to it. Played since open beta and im glued also by the time we get a release there will be a tonne of content.

@Dark

Remember though almost all the stuff Premium members get can be sold via the shop which any player can access.

Also I don't see a reason to make another character considering race/gender doesn't matter anymore and that you can switch your class whenever you feel like without penalty.

Used to play episode I and II for hours and hours on the Gamecube with some buddys.
Will probably get this for the Vita this time round.

Awesome! I'm definitely checking this out on both PC and my Vita.

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken46d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake47d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Jingsing47d ago

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol
