Where have all the other sports games gone? [SideQuesting]

Standalone games for smaller sports leagues may find it extremely difficult to manifest, considering the amount of investment needed from inception and engine development to securing licenses and player likenesses. That’s where going to a EURO 2012 model (or even Undead Nightmare and Episodes from Liberty City) of a downloadable addition to an existing game might be advantageous. The engine and presentation would be there, and the games would be distributed well enough already that it could cut down costs considerably and still reach the fans that want it most.

But could they work? And what leagues or sports are we missing out on that can be annualized (or bi-annualized) successfully?

The Real Question should be what happened to Sports. I miss Real Boxing! Now Boxers act is if their scared to Box to each other. Football and Basketball have gone completely soft with all these rule changes.

I honestly ask what have sports ever done for you?

Is it entertainment? or do you really care as a grown ass man about what other grown ass men making millions more than you are doing in a game?

do you get mad when "your" team loses? or maybe you should go and reinvent football and basketball that isnt soft, so that you can make a difference.

If you love the sport why not just go play it the non soft way?

in other words why does it matter to you that the rules have changed in a game that you arent even playing? Its not like you make less money because they changed the rules.

Im interested to know what this obession with sports is for men that dont even play why not start a team then get all involved playing against one another, i dont see the point of getting attached to a team that you have no relation to.

I agree. It's what I say about Call of Duty. Why not just go to the Army or Navy instead? And with Mass Effect 3. Why cares? It's NOT REAL! It's "aliens" and idealized human beings playing with magic and fake weapons. Read a book, amirite?

I can take a five minute walk to a basketball court and emulate my favorite players. Where can you go to emulate Mario?

I can turn on the TV and see guys I had classes with being successful doing something they love and are good at. Where is that personal connection for you in gaming?

I can watch my local team represent my city or state in a competition against another city/state, and be proud in their victories or share the pain of their losses. What games do the same?

Not everybody can play, for various reasons. Lots of people watch sports because that's their relaxation: they don't have the time to hop on a team. Many more don't have the health for it: I've got a heart condition that won't let me be too active(sports-level active) for more than a few minutes at a time.

I think it's less that you DON'T understand, and more that you don't WANT TO understand. Hell, you see how easy it was to make a parallel between sports and gaming, where you have more connection to sports than to gaming?

But with how you're looking at it, people shouldn't have any interest in anything at all; they should all just go out and do it themselves, instead of being a fan of Frank Herbert or Jane Lindskold, instead of going to museums to check out Da Vinci and Monet, instead of listening to Chopin or Gershwin. I write, draw, and do music; does that mean I shouldn't enjoy the works of others?

yeah man emulating a sports team member is something you can do in real life.

why one would play mario is to do something you cant do in real life.

thats kinda the point.

games and my personal connection i share is with the technology involved.

drawing obvious parallels to gaming that can be done with every subject doesnt supercede the idea that sports teams are for guys who cant.
and want to cheer other people on for relaxation.

I dont enjoy games for the usual reasons. I like to know that technology has progressed, it helps me in my work.

Im more interested in the algorithms behind the 2k games than i am the game itself. I watch replays to discover how they achieved realtime, polycuts here texturecuts here. lower framerate motion capture here. etc.

but i do like mario.

who knows we all have our own opinion and i think that sports are just rediculous. "share the pain of their losses" come on what pain. the fact that all of your cheering didnt work?

"my team" your team? represent your state? with all those players who arent from your local city or state? only 1-4 actual home team players?

If you cant play for whatever reason then thats fine, whatever floats your boat.

I dont have favorite players because I think its humiliating to look up to people good at doing something that has nothing to do with me. I will never need to "dunk" so why do i care that kobe can dunk the best.

You can apply this to anything in life. Also not everyone who enjoys sports is a sports nut or overacting fanboy, just like not everyone who plays online games goes ballistic when you kill them etc.. etc.. every hobby has its people who get too emotionally involved.

People usually support their cities because thats where their entertainment is... Thats where they can drive to watch a game, if their team is good its usually more entertaining.
