London 2012: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games Review | El33tonline

Oltman at El33tonline writes:

"In a dark arcade room at the bottom of La Montagne, a hotel in Ballito, I bumped into a game called Track and Field. Many 20 cent pieces were pumped into the machine in order to get the gold medal and hopefully a world record in a few events at the Olympic games. Somehow I always tripped up at the high-jump.

Now, in 2012, the Olympics are upon us and the customary videogame is here to accompany the biggest sporting event in the world. I have played the Winter Olympics game from 2010 and it failed to entice me - I could blame the fact that winter sports just do not appeal to South Africans in the same way as international gamers. It might also have had something to do with another sporting event taking place a bit closer to home that same year, though…

Now imagine my surprise when I played London 2012: The Official Video Game and found that I kept playing it way past my bed time. Only the best games get this official stamp of approval from me!"

If you want to get a taste of the Olympics once again without watching everything once more on BBC iPlayer, you can always try out the game, but you will be missing out on a large number of sports. The game features 46 events from 13 sports, pretty stingy when compared to 304 events from 36 sports that we just witnessed over the past couple of weeks. London 2012 clearly doesn’t quite match the real thing for events to take part in, but the bigger question is, are they any good to play?
