1UP gives 4/10 to Nitrobike: Biking -- without all that pesky excitement

Nitrobike does its best to provide a two-wheeled imitation of Wii launch title Excite Truck -- which isn't altogether odd, considering that developer Left Field Productions crafted the well-regarded Excitebike 64 back in 2000. Since then, the team has dabbled in the biking genre with MTX Mototrax and Wii and PSP's widely panned Dave Mirra's BMX Challenge. Nitrobike, however, marks a definite shift to even more high-flying antics and arcade-style racing.

Videogamer Nitrobike Review

Videogamer writes:

"We're of the opinion here at VideoGamer.com that the Wii's software library is dominated by shoddy games. We absolutely believe the console is capable of great things, but most developers just don't seem to want to release good games on it. Let's take Nitrobike as an example. The Ubisoft published extreme motorbike game from Excite Bike developers Left Field in theory should be good. But it's just not. In fact it's one of the worst examples of shoddy production values the Wii has seen."

Gamespot: Nitrobike Review

Gamespot writes:

"All told, it almost seems as if Nitrobike's driving mechanics and track design were pulled from two completely different games. They simply don't fit, and that lack of harmony results in a frustratingly difficult experience. If that weren't enough, insult is added to injury when you consider what little incentive there is for battling through this mess. Wii owners itching for a quality racing game will want to pass on this one."

The good:
- Nitro boosts offer a nice sense of speed
- Fairly extensive trick system
- Online multiplayer is occasionally interesting

The bad:
- Track design and driving mechanics don't mesh at all
- Little incentive to master the steep difficulty
- Cheesy music and grating visuals
- Inconsistent, confusing collision physics
