The 3DS XL Only Has One Circle Pad - Oh No!

Adam from Awesome Games writes: 'The reaction to the 3DS XL has exposed a worrying trend amongst the gaming community. Why can’t gamers ever look at the positives these days? Instead of clutching at straws in an attempt to highlight unwarranted negatives. The XL has better battery, bigger screens, an attractive price point, increased storage, a more functional design; but alas, clearly, all of these positive points are seemingly trivial.'

People are stupid wanting a built in 2nd analog atm.

Why should people pay $25-40 more for a 3DSXL (example $224.99 or 239.99) for a built in 2nd analog when many of the games they will play won't even use it, it makes complete sense for them to have people buy it separately, it actually saves many buyers money, rather then calling them "greedy", think twice about all of this. This would be a different story if many of the 3DS games that came out used a 2nd analog, so don't be surprised in a few years when the 3DS lite comes out if it has one analog as well.

At the end of the day $199.99 is more attractive then $224.99 or higher, it's better for ppl that play those few select games to dish out the extra money then have EVERYONE have to dish out. Anyone that disagrees clearly wants their 3DS to have 2 analogs, a swiss knife and a drink holder with no extra expensive at all.

r214340d ago

sorry mate i gotta disagree cause you're calling people who want a built in 2nd analog stick stupid :L thats just rude, man.

Trunkz4340d ago (Edited 4340d ago )

It may be rude but its the truth, I get tired of people mouthing off the 3DS in general just because it doesn't have the extra built in analog, this article said everything perfectly ~ a very awesome upgrade but because its missing one thing the entire device gets pooped on.

Example read below what dark-hollow says:

"Not having a second analog is not a good thing, nobody can argue with that"

and born2live:

"I guess that Nintendo felt most people would only play first party games - but I think it wouldn't have been too much of a problem to include it on the XL"

Like I said, people aren't fully understanding the reason why Nintendo did not add in the 2nd analog. I hope someone makes an Article that can explain this easily to everyone.

Well how about this Trunkz JR

Why the hell shouldn't we complain about it, Huh?
Nintendo Released the Circle Pad Pro peripheral AFTER manufacturing the first 3DS for whatever reason. Games started supporting the device later on down the line since then. It's also looks and feels clumsy on the 3DS. It defeats the purpose of having made another 3DS. So what if it adds more to the cost? Why not have it all together than in pieces that we gotta purchase for a complete gaming experience?

Try using common sense more often man.

dark-hollow4340d ago

Not having a second analog is not a good thing, nobody can argue with that, but its pretty late for nintendo to add one on the 3ds xl because then developers well develop games built around that and those 17 million old owners will be left out unless they buy the CPP.

PygmelionHunter4340d ago

Couldn't have said it better myself.

LegendarySins4340d ago

I hear what you are saying but I do not agree with this. All developers have to do is include a control scheme for original 3ds onwers as well as the 2nd analogue control scheme and this is problem solved. A few examples of this: 1) when dualshock came to ps1 games could use the analogues or still use the d-pad. 2) Games released on ios, no matter which ipad you have you can still play all games - developers simply tone graphics down for older ipads. 3) Kinect enhanced game like Mass Effect 3, kinect just adds a few extra features but game is still fully playable without a kinect (Microsofts own slogan - Better with Kinect). This is all we are looking for with the 2nd analogue in the XL. As long as Nintendo enforce developers to include a control scheme for both types of 3ds then this does not fracture the market.

born2live4340d ago

There's more to this - if there aren't too many games at the moment that use the 2nd c-pad, it's simply because it's not there! If it was, lots of FPS could be ported on that marvelous little machine (the ones that have been ported all suck... come on, admit it!)

Can you imagine how much better Kid Icarus would have been with another c-pad? no more trips to the orthotherapist! My left hand hurts like crazy after a few hours, being the only hand that holds on to the console...

The whole thing about the 2nd c-pad is construed by some as coming from overzealous fans, but the truth of it is that Nintendo, by taking the decision to go with only 1 c-pad, is cutting itself off a big part of the North American gaming industry (FPS mostly, but potentiall FPRPGs) - i'm not saying the 3ds won't be successful because of it (it already is doing very well, thank you), but it could probably do much better with it...

I guess that Nintendo felt most people would only play first party games (Mario, Metroid, Pokemon) and RPGs (and heck, they might be right, their main market being Japan and all), but I think it wouldn't have been too much of a problem to include it on the XL, for the benefit of everyone... Even if those who bought one with only one c-pad would feel cheated (I feel even worse having to buy an awkward extension to make up for it! Which extension is nearly impossible to find in most common electronic retailers in Canada...)

klecser4340d ago

How much have you played KIU? Its pretty clear that the stylus controls on KIU were implemented because you can't keep up with the speed of the game with an analogue stick. You can't match the stylus in that regard. This is the first thing that people who know what they're doing realized after all of the "why no CCP for KIU" hysteria passed. If KIU supported a second analogue, you would suck at the game.

CaptCalvin4340d ago

A bigger screen is hardly a good thing if the resolution is still the same. The pixel density will be even lower.

born2live4340d ago

That wasn't too much of a problem with the DSi XL... I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

born2live4340d ago

In the air fights, maybe. On the ground, and using the R button to dodge... I think I would do pretty well!

You have to admit that the stylus is horrible to turn around, while I'll gladly admit that the stylus is more accurate for aiming. Sooo.... maybe if they came up with a stylu that has a c-pad on it?

ikarodemon4340d ago

Second analog? I dont Care!

Two analogs are suitable to action games like ps3/X360 style.
For action games i have my powerfull PC!

3DS is for quick match of Mario games when a go to work or in the lunch time!

The truly porpose of this console is this!
Dont try transform a good travel console in a crap pocket home console!

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5095d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905095d ago (Edited 5095d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5095d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Jack-Pyro5095d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495095d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5095d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5095d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
