No Online for PS3's Virtua Tennis 3?

According to a Finnish website, the PS3 version of Virtua Tennis 3 will not feature an online mode. Apparently, Producer Mie Kumagai from Sega said that Sony has not delivered the necessary information about their online network to make coding the online mode possible. Rumor mill for now, but since this exaclty scenario happened with Tony Hawk's Project 8 as well, we believe it.

"Sony has not delivered the necessary information about their online network to make coding the online mode possible." ... mmm.. well could it be because there is no online network?

NextGen24Gamer6442d ago (Edited 6442d ago )

People don't understand...its not easy to build an award winning online community with unbelievable features as MS has done. And there is no way that sony will ever be able to match the 360's online capabilities. But what sad is that most launch games for the ps3 will either A. not have online or B. have a laggy, bad feature online.

Another Area the 360 dominates the ps3. Next gen gamers are interested in Online play. xbox live has a 60 percent attatch rate. WOW. Thanks again MS.

So much for Xbox Live killer. It's going to be free but no games are going to be playable!

There you go: which games follow?

Sony just messes up everything. They sh!t in their own livingroom where others are walking around also. People don't like to step into someone elses sh!t.

Sony just don't get it. They think the gameproducers and customers just take everything from them because they are Sony. Not because their product or service is good, no only because of their brand. You'll feel the pain Sony, soon, very soon

THELANDSOFSAND6442d ago

sony's service is so amazingly good they dont want to share it with game makers?

hmmm.

Whatever Happened To Virtua Tennis?

Sega's prominent tennis sim just couldn't be beat. And then vanished without a trace. Why?

Answer: Sega.

You could change the name of the game in the title that was awesome in its day, could still be around today because of its fun factor with a remake, remaster or sequel, that's in their huge back catalog, that's no longer being produced as a franchise. And the answer would still be the same: Sega.

As much as I love their games and their spunky attitude. That Sega no longer exists that I grew up with. The current company is a mere shadow of its former self with only a few moments of grandeur. Which is why owning their previous consoles like Dreamcast, is a necessary thing if you want to continue playing games like Virtua Tennis. The reason why I have two of them just in case one stops working. And of course emulation on the go. Wink. Dreams do come in red.

Virtua Tennis 3 and 4 didnt sell well. Thats all.

senorfartcushion554d ago

Both Virtua Tennis and Top Spin have gone. It’s annoying for tennis game players.

CBaoth554d ago (Edited 554d ago )

Yeah....all 5 of them. Obviously, game budgets now outweigh profit for what essentially boils down to Pong. I'm not talking about coders but licensing costs. Boxing, golf, etc...all fall in this category where real life athletes far supersede their worth in video games. Same thing occurred to Sony's Playstation All-stars. Sony spent 2 generations helping to cultivate all these 3rd party mascots into recognizable assets but when it came to license them for a game, they didn't want to pay the exorbitant fee. That game's 1 million sales didn't warrant a sequel and I very much doubt ANY tennis game could reach that sales plateau

It’s funny how you’re over the age of 3 and don’t know how to read properly 😅😅 Why the bizarre response?

Yi-Long554d ago

I couldn’t care less about licensing in a tennis or golf game. I don't need real-life players or locations/tournaments.

Just give me some fun cool characters, some courts/courses in varied gorgeous locations, and use the Virtua Tennis or Everybody’s Golf gameplay. That’s it.

ActualEngineer554d ago

I used to play tennis IRL and in videogames. My 2-cents is that a boring game that was simulating an extremely boring sport, was thrown under the rug, now that the devs can produce more complex and interesting games.

It's like the tetris-like games and games like space-invaders, that stopped being produced ... it is because they were good and simple to make in the early days of commercial videogame development but they are just not as interesting as, let's say, an open-world coop arpg ...

Ranking The 9 Main Tony Hawk's Games From Worst To Best

Andrew says: "That’s not just glorified sensationalist video game journalism, it’s an indisputable fact that these games are some of the highest rated games of all-time. Did you know that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, on the PS1, stands at 98 on Metacritic? The best game of all-time is only one point above it. There’s your fact of the day."

I was so sad when I saw number 1. But then I had the realization, and I definitely agree. Their number one is my number one. I think it perfected the classic formula without feeling too bloated, and all the levels were bops!

AndyHighton_YNWA1453d ago

Thought I'd throw a curveball in there haha. But yeah, I just think the levels for THPS3 were just unbelievable. :)

monochromer1452d ago

Did you, uh, forget that THPS5 existed? It was definitely a "main game".

MasterChief36241452d ago

@monochromer We would all like to forget that one ever existed.

gaffyh1453d ago

Pro Skater 2 I think was the one for me. I remember playing the demo for that level from OPM for hours until the full game released. Pause and hit retry before the timer ran out to find all the secrets!

sourOG1452d ago

Yeah I agree. That time in my life where I was in my first apartment and friends would come and it would always be running. People were all around doing different things but THPS2 was always on and someone was battling, sometimes on 2 different TVs. the soundtrack was great also so it was blasting. Good times, few worries.

chicken_in_the_corn1452d ago

Underground 1 will always be my favourite

The7Reaper1452d ago

Underground 1 was my favorite

Why is American Wasteland so low on the list? I personally like it better than all the Pro Skater games.

Chocoburger1452d ago

Its low on the list, because its a shit list. Putting the PS1 games before most of the PS2 games is laughable. Putting THUG 2 ahead of THUG 1 is ridiculous.

Chocoburger1452d ago

Straight up terrible list, filled with incorrect information. Not that I was expecting anything of value to begin with, nearly no one out there actually understands or appreciates the later excellent games in the series.
