Why the Nintendo Wii U Won't Fail

GameDynamo - "To say that the online reception to the Wii U was not as Nintendo hoped would be an understatement. The hit their stocks took after E3 was evidence enough, but comments from various people in and out of the industry tend to be more negative. There's even talk of it being the last Nintendo console, leading to the company leaving the hardware business à la SEGA. However, such fears are virtually unfounded. The Wii U is extremely unlikely to fail, because actual failure is something Nintendo has always avoided."

Because everybody is saying it WILL.

Just another repeat of the Wii, DS, and 3DS.

StraightPath4354d ago

Probably going to devastate the competition with immense sales just as the Wii, DS and the 3DS is currently doing. And the irony before all those systems there were doom articles...3DS remember anyone? Look whats happening now...

MostJadedGamer4354d ago

It will do even worse then Gamecube. Mark it down it will do even worse then the Gamecube. Most Wii owners are going to be very reluctant to buy another Nintendo console

Abash4354d ago

I dont think it'll fail, I just think the PS4 and 720 will be more successful.

sikbeta4354d ago

@Shok

everyone told me the Vita was going to Fail... you know how that's going...

I don't want any console to fail, I don't want to hear about IOS gaming savior and F2P = future, just want consoles to do well, pity those who are stuck in their brand loyalty and wish doom to other companies, I want the 3 console manufacturers fight for my bucks as hard as they can, I'll support all home systems next gen...

AWBrawler4354d ago

@MOSTJADED

I've seen well over 2,000 posts from different wii owners on my multiple nintendo fan forums, who want a Wii U, none of which are mainstream sites, so i think its safe to say they have an audience out there ready to buy them.

I'm sure the famous sites have waaaay more saying they want wii U, just check out Joystiq.

N4g_null4353d ago

If priced right it will sell. As a Ngc owner I have to say nintendo's style of arcade gaming needs great framerates and the ability to let their franchises be creative graphically and game play wise.

The wii u has that and all. The engine for the game play is done and ready. Now the new graphic Apis need to be rewritten. I think nintendo will figure out how to upscale old wiiu games also.

This system is more like a snes waiting on its street fighter 2 cart. I'm sure the media will claim any price they announce as way too high also. The price wasn't the problem games where. Not power not online not estore not f2p, it was games.

By the way f2p is going to show how much people do enjoy certain types of game play.

Once the 1st party stuff come we will see. A kid icuras wiiu would be epic.

Why the Wii U WILL fail.

Its simple most Wii's owners Wii has been sitting in there closets collecting dust for years now. Most Wii owners are going to be very reluctant to buy a another Nintendo console.

WeskerChildReborned4354d ago

True for me but Wii U isn't the same Wii we know. I'm actually looking forward to the Wii U and ZombiU.

omarzy4354d ago

Where are you getting this dust statistic? Not saying it is entirely wrong, but people say it with no statistics or evidence. There really is no way to prove that, it is about as reliable as the census.

clover0074354d ago

The Wii U will be successful for the same reasons why Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus are famous.

mike1up4354d ago

Because all these anti-Nintendo articles will just rally, and motivate, true Nintendo fans to buy the WiiU day 1.

...not this article btw, nice read.

Vortex3D4354d ago

As long Wii U has Mario, it can't fail. Nintendo fans will buy it for Mario.

TheLyonKing4354d ago

But it wasn't nintendo fans buying most of the wii's it was mums, old people and little ones.

I dislike the concept but I love hardware and will buy it all i am saying is I think the vast majority of people who bought a wii won't see a distinction with wii U.

However that doesn't mean it will fail. I think it will be as successful as the 360 or ps3 was it won't have the same amount of success as the wii

TheGamingArt4354d ago (Edited 4354d ago )

*sigh* if it doesn't fail... it surely displays whats wrong with this market. (Judging Nintendo as we currently know them).

mamotte4354d ago

What exactly? Enlight us, please.

No, seriously, tell me.

WeskerChildReborned4354d ago

@TheGamingArt, Did you just seriously say true gamer?

PopRocks3594354d ago

@TheGamingArt

True gamer? Could you kindly step off your pedestal? The Wii, DS and 3DS are successful because they're good outlets for gamers of any age, they're cheap and they have fun software on them.

To suggest that something like that should not be successful on the grounds that it's not the strongest hardware is horse shit.

Now how about you enlighten us and tell us what your twisted definition of a "true gamer" is?

Lf_sIcKmAn4354d ago

You are obviously not a true gamer as true gamers see beyond consoles and graphics and appreciate good games no matter where they are found... you are just another kid trying to look cool by hating on nintendo...

I love how nintendo changes things up everytime, keeps gaming fresh and not DULL, the last thing gamers would want is another ATARI debacle where the industry almost died.

If it wasnt for nintendo, you wouldnt be playing at all... pay your respect where it is due kid.

AWBrawler4354d ago

Words falling on deaf ears/eyes. He's clearly to new to gaming to appreciate that tidbit of info. I don't care much for westernized games and XBox, but i give respect for introducing us to HDD in consoles to save games, demos, and whatnot.

shackdaddy4354d ago

LMAO @ "true gamer" I always wonder what people like you are like in real life.

Great news it shows that Nintendo intends to continue developing ports of AAA games to its next gen platform

H98d ago

Buying studios from embracer now is a great deal, they must be dirt cheap at this point, Nintendo is a opportunist, they wait until someone fall so they get their best deal

OtterX8d ago

That is some serious brain gymnastics you have going on there. 🤔

H98d ago

I didn't do any gymnastics I can assure you, honestly I don't know why you think that, not hating I seriously don't see why you think that

ZeekQuattro8d ago

Yeah I don't know where that came from. It's rare for Nintendo to flat out aquire studios. Guess they were trying to be edgy but why flex on this studio. 🤣

Kneetos7d ago

At least they are safer from layoffs with Nintendo then any other company

banger888d ago

I hope someone buys Piranha Bytes, their future isn't looking good right now. I love their RPGs, they're janky as f***, but they have heart and soul.

Relientk778d ago

Nintendo saw the Mortal Kombat 1 Switch port and were like, "Yeah, these guys are worth acquiring."

You can't make this crap up lol

Profchaos8d ago

Mortal Kombat 1 was never going to port well I'm sure they told wb it wasn't going to work but wb wants that sweet sweet 140 million install base

In the end wb approved the project cleared the milestones and allowed the product to release

SonOfOsiris8d ago

Yeah this guys ported MK11 which is great, Hogwarts Legacy which is great, and MK1 is now ok, play it every day

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno25d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.
