PES developer on FIFA: “maybe EA thinks they’ve gone far enough with gameplay”

Speaking to OPM UK, PES 2013 team leader Jon Murphy suggested that FIFA 13′s aesthetic tweaks indicate that the team’s taken gameplay “far enough,” and maybe trying to “attract a different audience” this time.

FIFA has critical mass, commercially. I can't seem them toppling it, no matter how good their game is.

abzdine4340d ago

It's not because a game has commercial success that it's a good game, just look at COD. Don't be fooled by numbers.

abzdine4340d ago

They definitely did !! And it's an old hardcore PES/Winning Eleven fan talking !

PES, like any other japanese franchise on HD console is not what it used to be.

Some of the best games of this generation are made by the Japanese. Beginning w/ MGS4, GT5 and Demon/Dark Souls. But I do hear what you're saying, some JP games have taken a turn for the worse this gen.

Agreed, Japanese still know how to make great games with the Souls games being perfect examples of that. Although, thats also the only Japanese game that could not only implement online smoothly, but to some extent revolutionize it.

Anyway, i play FIFA now, its a great game, but still doesnt give me that magic feel the old PES, like PES5/6, could give me. But neither does the latest PES's, they're terrible really and i sadly cant see them retaining its solid gameplay this generation. FIFA adapted perfectly to the new gen machines, PES didnt whatsoever.
I hope, but doubt, PES will return to its glory days. Either way it will never challenge FIFA in regards to sales, FIFA is too mainstream, anyone can pick it up and play it. Whereas PES is like an acquired taste, it requires time to get the hang of the gameplay and then theres the lack of licences, a casual gamer wont know anything about option files so this will be a huge stumbling block.

abzdine4340d ago

Very few Jap developers are still delivering top quality games and the rest (which is a big part of it)needs to go back to school and PES team is one of them, sadly enough !

OcelotRigz4340d ago

PES was the guys who raised the bar in the gameplay of footie games. They were a small development team, and still are, who entered a market which was completely dominated by FIFA. Because FIFA had no competition it became lazy and just produced the same arcadey game every year. But thanks to the growing popularity and huge critical acclaim PES gained FIFA took the finger out and started improving their game.

Its as simple as that, without PES FIFA wouldn't be as good as it is today.

fifa 12 excellent games. love it and i never use 2 play soccer @ all

pompombrum4340d ago

Lol what? Every year Fifa distances itself further from PES in both gameplay and modes. Keep talking Konami because that's probably the thing your best at sadly. Would love pes to go back to it's glory days but anyone who knows just how small the pes development team is just know it's not going to happen.

Not all outdated football games are worthless

Games Asylum: "Outdated football games are a common sight when scouring jumble sales, car boots and charity shops for bargain price video games. Entire shelves filled with decade-old FIFA and PES games spread across a dozen formats. Often they end up in bargain bins, sitting alongside unwanted celebrity fitness DVDs and seemingly random TV show box sets. But here’s the thing. Not all football games gathering dust in the likes of Oxfam are in fact worthless."

Now Sonic Boom & Bayonetta 2 are being outsold by FIFA 13 Wii U

Just who is buying FIFA 13 on Wii U? We may never know, but there are more people buying that than there are Bayonetta 2 and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.

Sonic Boom? welp, sucks to suck.
But, Bayonetta is a real shame

wonderfulmonkeyman3452d ago

Sonic Boom is riding off the popularity of the TV show; it's a bad game.

And as for FIFA?
Well, guess that goes to show that there's a lot of older gamers on Wii U that wanted FIFA, then; sports games generally do out-sell action games, and Platinum isn't known for large sales in the first place.

I'm not worried for Bayonetta. It'll hit that 1M mark by the middle of next year, surely, at its current pace.

are seriously trying to downplay Bayonetta 2 with sales
