How the 3DS XL update could boost Nintendo handheld sales

The new Nintendo 3DS XL is the latest in what has become an annual Nintendo tradition of revising its handheld hardware line. Starting with the Nintendo DSi in late 2008 and early 2009, Nintendo has steadily improved its hardware each year, moving from the primitive, 2006-era Nintendo DS Lite to systems with better networking, added on-board storage, larger 2D screens, and – with the launch of the 3DS last year – a new 3D screen technology.

because some people wanted a bigger screen, some people were waiting for the well known habits of nintendo releasing tons of revisions, Some were going to buy one anyway and some are nintendo loving fanboys that will gladly buy every revision nintendo shells out.

for those who bought the 250$ version then trade it to get this, know that your giving nintendo 400+ dollars for the same console.

its your money, Me personally i will wait for revision number 4 which will be the 3ds xl with dual analog

AWBrawler4347d ago

I'm fairly sure that whenever it has dual analog it will be different handheld all together.

Lucretia4347d ago

just like when the DSi came with a camera and had games exclusive to the DSi and segregated the Consumers right?

AWBrawler4347d ago

Those where like what 2 or 3 games. now I will say that people who wanted DSiware were screwed though.

Question_Mark4347d ago

You do know that Sony released more revisions of the PSP than Nintendo did with the DS, right?

Sgt_Slaughter4347d ago

As a fan of both, your right. The DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL. PSP-2001, PSP-3001, PSP Go, and PSP-4001.

TheDivine4347d ago

Im tempted to get one. I love my 3ds too but that screen! With both screens you get about 9 inches of screen to use, it looks massive compared to the normal 3ds. Still ima try to hold off (same thing i said with the vita and i got it day 1).

Nodoze4347d ago (Edited 4347d ago )

Oh so tempting. I knew deep down not to invest this past Christmas as there was a new model coming, but my son wanted Mario (so did I).

Oh well now he can have one, and I can have one. Although I am not at all keen on the colors (Red or Blue). I will wait for the all black or the super special edition that will almost certainly release before Christmas.

As a side note, I am wondering how the 3D effect will look on this new screen. Will it be easier to 'track' when playing games that move the system around, or will it lose the effect easier.

live2play4347d ago

its launching with red and blue
same day as super mario
he wears red and blue
xD

Canary4347d ago

Day 1 buy for me. I've been holding on to my DSi XL all year hoping for precisely this.

The real kicker is that the 3DSLL's screen is actually -bigger- than the DSiXL screen... which is just all kinds of awesome.

To bad the damned thing is region-locked and we're only getting the fugly primary colors in North America. I guess I'll go with red, but I'd really love clean white, or some matte black to go with my Vita.

AWBrawler4347d ago

Not interested I'm fine with mine and they don't have black to match my eventual Wii U.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
