The Future of Gaming Tech Looks Brighter Than Ever

As our current stable of consoles begin to fade into obsolescence, the PC market has already defined what we can expect from the future of console gaming and development.

The benchmark for all games to follow

-Gespenst-4344d ago

I really don't think we need tech to be any better than this. How about some intelligent games now?

NobodyImportant4343d ago

If everyone thought as you do we'd still be driving horse and carts.
They were good enough 100+ years ago.

Technology progresses. Has done since year dot. Get with the programme.
Just because you're happy to stagnate with 6 year old technology doesn't mean everyone else is.

I'll be buying a PS4/XBox720 (or both) at launch.
See you in the future.

BTW: I'm totally down with intelligent games, but that doesn't mean we have to slow technology for them.

I get what Gespenst is saying, though.

I mean, software tech is waaaaaay beyond what the 360/PS3/Wii can handle but we're still playing the same games we've been playing since 2006/2007.

I recently seen some footage of that game Heist and it makes me question WTF is up with the industry not making more games like that?

I don't disagree that tech needs to keep moving forward, but at the same time, hot dang they really need to start making games that aren't aimed at people with low double-digit IQs.

Yes, I agree that we should start focusing on more than just graphics. We need better particle physics, we need open worlds that are TRULY open (as in, go into any building). We need destructible environments and AI that learns as you play the game so that game difficulty can be tailored to your personal play style.

There's more to making great games than just graphics.

@ges devs can only push consoles so far, they'll need new hardware to achieve highly detiled open worlds with dynamic a.i,smooth animation and stable framerates, plus a benefit for third party devs (assuming that next gen consoles are architecturally the same but better)are, that the later game for this gen would look like or be a bit better on next systems as launch titles because they're more powerful.

I am honestly shocked at the lack of imagination with most gamers when they say "we don't need better". There is so much room for improvement in so many areas, but I don't feel like typing a wall of text.

The indie game Perspective says "Hi".

You don't need new hardware to be creative.

"...the PC market has already defined what we can expect from the future of console gaming and development."

Like it or not that's how things have been for years. Yes, it's undeniable that consoles have put gaming into the mainstream but PC will always be defining benchmark to where they should go next. Consoles are enclosed system where software are optimized for them while the PC is the hardware experimental laboratory where the next piece of tech are born. Both platforms actually complete each other.

Instead of saying that "we don't need these tech" or "my console can do a similar thing for a fraction of of the price," we all should let the PC run its course. Let consoles become the optimization hub while the PC become the hardware test lab for future tech that both platforms will inevitably use. Some hate the PC gamers' elitism but the next gen consoles actually depend on them.
