16bits Review: Super Hang-On (SEGA Vintage Collection)

SEGA have recently re-released more of its retro back catalogue on PS3 and Xbox 360, this time offering games that either have not been re-released before or are only available on new consoles via Wii’s Virtual Console. They picked some great games too including this one, one of the most iconic arcade games of the 80s — Super Hang-On. What is impressive though is that SEGA and M2 have gone above and beyond to make this and the other titles more than just a simple emulation with a HD upscale.

Like after burner climax and outrun online arcade edition.

I can see a new hang-on game coming out for this gen or maybe next gen. A few other games that Sega should restore life to:

galaxy force
thunder blade
power drift
virtua cop

Those are some of sega's better arcade titles that havent been given the next gen treatment. All of these could be given a new coat of paint and released on xbla, psn, wiiware to breathe new life into classic arcade titles.

This game and Road Rash ( classsic game from 16 bit era on Genesis/ Mega Drive) needs to be brought to the " next gen".

EA totally forgot about Road Rash and now they even forgot about Burnout.
All they think is Need for Speed this NFS that.

30 Years of Yu Suzuki’s Hang-On

David Tierney writes: "One clear cut age line on the wrinkly face of the arcade motorbike game Hang-On is that it, along with its sister F1 racer Super Monaco GP, advertised cigarettes. That’s right, glimpses of your favourite lung-destroying foes such as John Player Special and “Marbor” (an obvious parody of Marlboro) could be spotted while you were zooming by. Oh, the cravings! Funnily enough, this didn’t shock me as much as the fact that Hang-On originally came out 30 years ago. The first time I played it was through its 1989 sequel Super Hang-On, and that was a title relegated to a multi-game cartridge that was bundled with my Sega Mega Drive."

Revenge of Shinobi is awesome. You need to sit down and figure it out. Altered Beast? Where do you get that comparison? Nothing alike besides the scrolling. Road Rash 2 and 3 were the peak of that series. The PS1/Saturn games were mediocre. The N64 Road Rash was decent but that was about it.

Spend more time with them games before cutting off their heads. Also do yourself a favor and pick up Streets of Rage 2 and crank it through a stereo with the front headphone stereo jack. It still sounds killer.

I used to love the first two Streets of Rage games, will definitely be looking out for them! Revenge of Shinobi is growing on me to be fair, but didn't stand out compared to some of the other games at first. I got mauled by a wolf quite a lot which made me think of Altered Beast, but other than that they are fairly different now I think about it.

Oh and Road Rash on PS1/Saturn is an unloved classic!! The Mega Drive games are good to though, they need to bring that series back!
